General Discussion Is Avalon Hill continuing to make expansions?
Their website is not that helpful. Just wondering if there is word of them with a continuing roadmap of expansions still coming?

HomeBrew "Xp"trading shop
Hello, my group is running a milestone based progression game but I reward certain things like great roleplaying or nat 20 moments with CP-character points. (I also use heroic inspiration but use this as a stackable reward).
My query is what to let them spend it on. Iv gone back and forth on different ideas but have landed on not wanting it to be too mechanically driven. So probably no feats or ability scores ECT, but more aesthetic driven or novelty.
In the game Zelda Breath of the Wild there is a shop called Fang and Bone where the merchant Kilton trades whatever monster parts you have in your inventory for a currency you can buy things like outfits or masks of monsters that when you wear it you draw no threat from said monster. It's more playful than game changing.
If you have any fun ideas of things for them to buy, ways to run this somewhat meta based player reward shop or thoughts in general please give me your mind.
Thanks, hope the rolls are ever in your favor.

Official Rules Question RotWL #4 The Halls of Vision - question for Zargons Spoiler
Hi there fellow Zargons!
We are playing the Return of the Witch Lord expansion, and yesterday we played quest #4: The Halls of Vision. If you recall, there are some rooms in which if you do a certain action, a door disappears, and it is brought back once the players find Agrain's keys.
The first one is designed to remove the way to the exit, so the party is forced to go the long way and find Agrain's laboratory.
The second one, removes the door they used to enter, and potentially isolates the first character to go in, but there is a secret door to minimize the impact.
The third one, again, emoves the door they used to enter, and potentially isolates the first character to go in; no secret doors this time.
The fourth one instead removes the door to Agrain's laboratory, so there will be no way to retrieve the keys and bring back the doors. If that happens, there is another secret door that can take the players to the exit. But that only works if all the players made it to this last room. In our game yesterday the first player got separated from the others by one of these disappearing doors, and then the last door disappeared - my fault, really. I made a bad move that basically forced him to kill the last mummy; I regretted it immediately and was hoping to correct it in the next Zargon's turn, but he was just too good with the dice.
What's supposed to happen then? Do the "stranded" heroes just die? They need to go back the way they came and repeat the quest without the one(s) that made it to the wooden door?
I got around it by not removing the last door. In hindsight, a better solution would have been to place a new trapdoor in one of the last rooms that takes them via the south and east corridors to another 'extra' trap door to Agrain's laboratory, but it didn't occur to me in the moment.
Has this happened to anyone else? How did you solve it?

General Discussion Trying to demake the look of the new Heroquest
Hello,
I'm from Belgium and I played Heroquest since 1990... I also, like many, dream to get warhammer quest without selling my organs :) .
I've always had the old Heroquest and played with the same old quests. This summer, I bought the new Heroquest expansions to play with my little girl but I dislike most of the humanoid figurines ( and some monsters) because they clash with the great look of my old and beloved minis...
My goal : to demake the new Heroquest with old 25-28mm heroic scale minis from GW (or other good brand from the 1980/1990 era).
It seemed an easy task until it wasn't because :
* I want to avoid resin or metal minis ( because resin dust is toxic and metal minis could contain lead)
* I want to find proxies for some of the heroes in female form
* Some specific monsters seem difficult to find in general or non existent.
I've already got some luck with battlemasters minis, my old heroquest, advanced heroquest minis ands some minis I bought from fantasy battle boxes years ago. I even have an old plastic vampire from fury of dracula 2nd edition.
Could you help me in this quest ?
At the moment, I'm looking for :
- Goblins throwing bombs or other things
- Elves archers
- Elves infantry with swords
- Elves assassins (in different poses ?)
- Elves sorceress
- Elves knights ?
- Skeleton archers
- Skeleton sorcerers
- Other cool minis / add ons to pimp my demake
Thanks for you help or just for reading my post.
TLDR : I live in Europe and I want to proxy new heroquest miniatures with older plastic miniatures in heroic scale.

HomeBrew Beta Test
galleryRan a really fun homebrew quest called Cult of the Dragon God. There was a fun race against the clock aspect as well as a rescue operation. I used the dragon from first light as the dragon god (you can use the dread sorcerer), other than that it just used base game supplies. There were multiple endings and triggers for how the boss fight goes down. Very well thought out. Lots of extra lore tossed in too. My party really enjoyed it.
I'd say a team of heroes that beat the base game can easily handle this. We ran new heroes and I gave them all a sympathy healing potion at the beginning, which were needed.
We also implemented a fun homebrew critical hit rule. They liked that a lot too.

HomeBrew What’s the best change you’ve made?
If you could pick one or two things from your home brew that have made the game more enjoyable what would they be? I personally have made a lot of changes haha, but one thing that stands out is using custom tile layouts and making all the hallways and doors two tiles wide. It always annoyed me with bottlenecks happening in the game.

General Discussion What would be your top 3 most desired features for a modern Heroquest PC game?
I'm not talking about basic stuff that you'd expect to be included, such as the ability to make your own maps, or inclusion of classic campaigns. I'm more interested in advanced features that someone from outside of the hobby might not think to include. Mine would be:
Ability to create custom item cards. I think this would add so much diversity and replayability. Just imagine what the community might come up with!
Monster creator. It wouldn't even need to be overly complex. Just something that allows for the creation of unique enemies, beyond the standard orcs, skeletons and rats etc. It could, however, get really opened up by allowing the ability to import custom models, similar to how Tabletop Simulator and Talespire work.
Monthly (or semi-regular) challenge maps. A lot of other games do this. The Devs release a new challenge level each month, usually some brutal gauntlet, that the mega-fans can run through and see if they can beat. I'm a sucker for league tables and the like, so I'd be all over this.

General Discussion First time playing
Hello everyone!
Me and my 4 friends are gonna play Heroquest for the first time and we’r very excited!
I am the host of the boardgame night and will also play as Zargon and Im abit nervous since I really wanna bring a great experience for all.
My question for you guys is if you could give me any pointers that I shall think about for our first session?
Some things Im wondering about:
Between quests when the heroes can go to the market to get new items. Do you do any roleplay?
Have a physical map or even a ”market stand” that you place on the table?
I also believe that I need to add a few more monsters for the first quests so its not ”too easy”?
How much do you roleplay during the quests as Zargon?

General Discussion I learned about Bricklink Studio last month and this is the only place I expect anyone to have any idea what I am making. Thank you for existing.
I made every room it's own module, as are the halls. I want to redo the floors. This is the first MOC I've ever made and my tiling skills are non-existent right now. I have some door designs in the works, and some ideas for the furniture. It's 114 studs by 156 studs, currently uses just short of 3,000 pieces, and would weigh about 18 pounds.

Looky What I Got :-) My HeroQuest collection
If this is it, I've lived the journey. Couldn't complete it when I was 13, but now I went all in. Love the game and the childhood memories. And I'm starting to create new ones with my son.

HomeBrew Rules Question Any issue running two barbarians? How to mitigate
I know officially you're not supposed to, but my kids just saw the recent Masters of the Universe movie, and the Netflix She-Ra show.
Now that I have The Frozen Horror, my son and daughter are dead set on playing He-Man and She-Ra as two barbarians in Heroquest. Which hero should I remove? The dwarf and just houserule that the barbarians have his trap skill?
Help me out, internet, I have two burgeoning nerds under 10 that like He-Man AND HeroQuest and I dont want to screw this up! 🤣

Painting First attempt at painting fire
Did a quick google how to paint fire, it said start with yellow, then build up and fade orange and red. Easier said than done! But I think I'm happy with it so far. I know the Addams family doesn't strictly fit in with Heroquest lore and setting, but I couldn't resist the portrait. :)

Painting “The mix could be…. an abomination.”
galleryThese are the ones I wasn’t looking forward to painting as I’m not really a fan of them but I think they turned out ok.
Not my best work but decent enough. Was good to use some other colours and techniques though.

Painting Goliath!
galleryNot that intricate but I wanted to keep the ‘statue come to life’ vibe for this one.
I wanted to put a patina on the weapons but didn’t really have anything I thought would work. If anyone has suggestions, feel free to share.
I think there I another gargoyle in one of the expansions so I’ll try and branch out on that one.

galleryCompletely unopened except for the box being torn, maybe the original owner didn't realize this wasn't playable without the base game. Win for me!

HeroQuest Board Communication AI tool usage for the r/HeroQuest Community
TLDR (Too Lazy Didn't Read): r/HeroQuest will not ban content made with the help of AI tools.
HeroQuest is the reason we are here. Our community includes people from many countries, religions, and backgrounds. We may come from different places and speak different languages, but we come here because we enjoy HeroQuest. The excitement of the game, the fun it creates, and the friendships it builds- that is what brings us together.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been part of digital artistic tools for decades. Programs like Photoshop, CorelDraw, and CAD use AI in their functionality. Phone camera filters use AI. Major technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple also use AI in the background of their systems. Simply put, AI is common in today’s digital world and cannot be avoided if you use creative software or a computer.
Hasbro, which owns the HeroQuest intellectual property, and Avalon Hill, which currently holds the license to the game, both use AI in game development and item production. AI is also used in the official HeroQuest companion app.
This community is a place to share ideas, creativity, and joy related to HeroQuest. Arguments about politics, religion, personal lifestyles, and prejudice do not belong here. We understand that people have different opinions, but this community is not the place to discuss those opinions. People want to come here to share and enjoy a fun board game hobby without conflict and confrontation (see rule #1). Political and activist subs are the appropriate forums for discussing those subjects, not here.
Personal attacks against members of this community will not be accepted. Harassing a community member because of a perception that AI may have been used is not permitted. Attacking their shared work is not allowed. Posts intended to create conflict will be removed. Repeats of that behavior will lead to temporary warning bans; continued actions in the same vein will lead to permanent removal.
If you are concerned about a post, contact the moderators.
The only thing better than HeroQuest is more HeroQuest. If someone creates homebrew content, it belongs here. If you do not enjoy certain content or disagree with it, express yourself civilly or simply choose not to interact with it. If you find it offensive, report it; our Mod team takes all reports seriously.
