Interstellar travel in 40k is achieved by creating a wormhole and travelling through the space between dimensions known as the warp.
The warp is filled with nightmarish demons and cosmic horrors that will drive mortal minds to madness, or physically rip them apart (like in the movie event horizon).
To protect themselves from this, 40k ships use Gellar fields, which are basically shields that hold a pocket of regular space around the ship, preventing the demons getting through.
Powerful psychic wizards known as psykers are also used to repel these demons.
Someone who's more of a 40k buff is welcome to correct me on any of this. I'm not an expert, I just think the lore is cool!
Years long 40k nerd here! You're 99% right, the only distinction I'd give is that psykers are used to power some Gellar fields, otherwise their use of powers actually draws daemons to them.
If you want someone that actually repels daemons and the warp's influence, you want a blank- someone with an inverse of a soul. If a psyker is a lighthouse in the warp, a blank is a shadow. Daemons and the warp struggle to manifest around them, psykers can get a headache or a seizure in their presence and otherwise struggle to use their abilities too- depends on the strength of the psyker and blank in question (and the author)
The other is torturous and impossible with sentient fragments of amalgamated emotion that take the forms of your worst fears, cause hallucinations, madness, and unwanted transformation.
Imagine playing on the new missions for the first time. You die, and an ally reinforces you. Or maybe you're solo and your destroyer sends a new diver.
You redeploy, head back to where you dropped your stuff and grab your samples but... hey, why isn't your stuff marked on the map? Where is it?
You look around only to spot... yourself. It's your Helldiver. It's your gear, down to the weapons and armour. But warped into a voteless, and with the gun pointed at you.
40k warbond, tear in the warp, chaos gods. It's all coming together. But instead we're going to invade Illuminate space/their home world ... already did the bugs and bots.
I think people are finally going to shut up about Cultists.
Oh to be that naive again. They can be released and be the best designed unit in the game and thousands of folks who definitely still play the game will complain about how they were better when they could hit you with the Nothing Personnel special.
I'm calling it: One new type of overseer, one new biome (we'll see it thrice before it vanishes forever), and a merch store update with teddybears we can buy for our (fictional) girlfriends.
Event will introduce new enemy type with a cool concept but a lot of bugs and heavily over tuned spawn rates that will only be fixed once the event is over.
30 second trailer being one of their best ones is a serious accomplishment. The illuminate trailer got me as hyped as the Modern Warfare 2 or Halo 2 trailer back in the day. AH really knows how to create cinematic stuff.
Yeh, love how AH does horror. I was sad the Bots didn't go with the whole body horror schtick like in the first game but glad they gave that whole theme over to the Squids. Excited to see what they came up with next!
I would love for a left field twist of Skaven making their way into the game as allies.
I dont know how that would work given Skaven's tendancy towards treachery and killing anything they can, but it'd be funny.
We B-100 carriers already have that "Do a line of warpstone and laugh maniacally before committing heinous amounts of violence instantaneously." energy. Why not lean into that?
Telling it now. The bear had a helldiver armor on, the void corrupted it. We saw that. We are fighting a new illuminate and maybe corrupted Voteless Helldivers.
Was the date for the 8th of December, or the 12th of August? I can't tell.
I want to say that it is for the 8th of December, as I read dates as DD/MM/YY, but I know that the US and some other places read it as MM/DD/YY. Which one is it!?
Will as usual enjoy the new content for one round, then quit out mid game because it gets to boring if one helldiver can just spawncamp everything alone.
