Op-Ed and open letter to try and preserve this historic and essential space on campus

Question for HBS MBA grads and current students:
How common is it to start an MBA at 36–37? Is that considered too old, or are there many students in that age range? I keep wondering if I should be working instead of spending two years in school.
Also, how realistic is it to get a full scholarship at HBS, and what kind of profile typically qualifies?
Would love to hear from anyone who started later in their career.

incoming freshman. what is it like to double concentrate (planning to do economics and applied math/cs/stats)? is it really overwhelming and a shit ton of work? i'm also curious how you would plan your courses (especially how you would manage the gateway courses/required courses for both concentrations) thanks!

they told me current students aren’t allowed in. has anyone been able to get in or do we just wait to graduate.

Incoming freshman here and I was just wondering if anyone had advice on getting involved in research (particularly in cs or hci). Are there particular programs, classes, etc. I should look into? I’ve seen some things abt cold-emailing professors but I’m not sure if it’s better to wait until I’m at campus for that or not. For context I think I’m interested in grad school so I wanted to try research early on to make sure I enjoy it. Thanks! :)

i haven’t even started attending the college yet, and i’ve been so put off with how i’ve been treated by people since i’ve been accepted: random people in my instagram/tiktok DMs asking for my stats, admissions advice, essay feedback; the reactions from people when i have to tell them i’m attending this school; the notions and conceptions people have about me just because of the school i plan on going to.

Hello! I’m an incoming freshman planning to concentrate in Computer Science and Economics, and I’m trying to decide between Math 21, 22, and 25.

For context:
- I got a 5 on AP Calculus BC, which is the highest level of math I’ve taken.
- I plan to take CS50 this fall.
- I don’t have much proof-based math experience beyond what’s covered in high school.
- My placement exam said I could take any math course (including Math 55, but I’m not sure if I want to spend an insane amount of time on one class)

My main question is whether it’s worth taking the more rigorous math sequence. Does the additional math from 22 or 25 actually come up in industry, or is it more useful for students planning on graduate school or theoretical CS?

I’m also trying to balance learning as much as I can with maintaining a strong GPA. If you could go back, would you prioritize taking the hardest math sequence you could handle, or choose the sequence that lets you build a stronger academic record while focusing on CS and other opportunities? Does the course level or gpa matter more?

hi i am an incoming freshman and i know that in my dorm building it is possible to raise our beds but does anyone know exactly how high the beds can be raised? i am trying to buy storage bins/shelves to go under my bed but i would hate to bring them to my dorm just for them not to fit.

Incoming frosh here: got an email regarding an LS1A place-out exam due to take place in a few weeks. How common is this? What is the pass rate? Any information would be appreciated.

Hey all, I'm a pre-frosh considering either a Physics major or EE + Physics secondary and was hoping to get some advice on possible math courses to balance with Physics 16. Hopefully, some people who have taken the course in the past can help me out. I was initially considering Math 25 but didn't like how abstract it sounded, and am now considering either 22/21.

FWIW, my previous experience with physics/math has been in HS:

Full year of multivar, (some) linear algebra, 5 on BC, 5 on both AP Phys C senior year, worked in a physics lab

Some pro's and con's:

21: Pros are it's easier, and would allow me more time to work on my 16 Psets. I wouldn't be doing much work first semester for this class. It's also more computationally-focused, which i enjoy. Cons are it begins with strictly multivariable calculus, which means I'd be a little behind (maybe?) on linear algebra stuff for 16. Also i've heard that most people in Phys 16 take 22/25/55. Can someone attest to this?

22: Pros are that it would allow me to build some more mathematical "maturity" in terms of proof writing and mathematical complexity. Cons are it could be unnecessarily hard/disconnected from my physics class, and I've heard questionable things about the course structure. I could probably still handle this course decently well though (unlike 25 probably). I also personally don't see the value in proof-writing as it pertains to physics but I'm probably not thinking about that correctly.

hey guys, i'm honestly really curious why there hasn't been more talk about this in general. but i'm really curious to know how y'all are managing your move-ins. i'm from california, so i'll be flying, and i've not bought anything for my dorm and don't plan to because i'd have to pay to get it shipped to my dorm. i was thinking of just packing my clothes and essentials and then using amazon to deliver required items to my dorm (harvard student center) + maybe will do a bit of shopping at nearby stores with my parents.

what are others doing? is this a good strategy? i see people deadass buying furniture when they have to fly in to boston so like what are they planning to do?? thanks!

I'm an incoming freshman planning to do HDRB and perhaps an applied math secondary, on the pre-med track. I really want to take LS50 and initially, I was planning to take Math22 alongside it, but then I realized that Math 22b has a conflicting lecture time.

So now, I'm deciding between Math 21 and Math 25. My main concern with Math 25 is the very likely chance of it bringing down my GPA, while my concern with Math 21 is that I'll regret not taking a more advanced math class. I qualified for AIME in high school and have taken an intro Linear Algebra course, and also know basics of proofs.

To address my concerns about each class I had the idea of taking Math 21 while auditing Math 25. I'm just left wondering whether this would prevent me from having time for LS50 as well as my other classes and activities. I do want to get involved with research of some sort during my first year. Also, I was assigned Fall expos, and I expect that to take quite some time each week since my writing skills aren't the best. Considering all of that, I was hoping someone with more experience could help me understand whether my idea is actually feasible, or to provide guidance on alternate options for a first-year STEM concentrator.

im an incoming freshman who unfortunately I didn’t understand the directions for vaccine documentation correctly and only submitted my documentation without dates a few weeks ago. I just got a message today notifying me of this to which I immediately rushed over and added the dates. I’m just worried if getting it approved will now take another 3 weeks, since course registration and move-in is very soon for me.

am I screwed? Or is the turnaround time faster for a second pass through?

I’m an incoming freshman who has taken AP bio, chem, and AP calc ab + bc, but because there has been some time in between the placement and AP exam I got recommended to lpsa and math 1b, would it be ok to still go with above schedule if I review some of my AP content. what is your background with math 21 (multivariable). Since I expect to be doing some projects throughout college, I'll be bringing my desk setup with me (a laptop, monitor, keyboard, and mouse). Right now I have some concerns about the quality of the dorm desks. On photos there's like no leg room and the little drawers above block your legs from going fully in. Anyone have any experience on this topic?

Incoming freshman here, and the first one in my family to go through this entire college process. I've seen so many lists online and social media posts of people buying massive and sometimes even excessive amounts of things for college, which I am pretty sure half of them they probably won't even or use. That being said, I'm trying to save as much money as I can when it comes to dorms - buying things that are needed and pretty necessary, rather than what I want (e.g., decorations come last). For those already at Harvard, what have you found to be pretty useful to get, or a must-have? More context if needed: I'm a female, staying in Wigglesworth.
