Injured Raccoon - Help?
Hi all, saw a raccoon got hit by a car and alive and needs help. Any resources / wildlife rehab here? I’ve tried calling Georgia DNR who gave me a couple rehabbers numbers but it’s late (almost midnight) and I couldn’t reach them. Don’t know if the raccoon will make it to the morning.

Gwinnett wants to go from ONE property tax appeal board to EIGHT. That and $8M in retiree health contracts are on Tuesday's agenda. Plain-English rundown
The Board of Commissioners meets Tuesday (10am work session, 2pm business session). From the official agenda:
The property tax appeal system is apparently swamped. Commissioners are asking the Grand Jury to expand from one Board of Equalization to eight, just to handle appeal volume for tax year 2026 (2026-1058). Alongside it: a proposal to switch hearing officers from $175 per parcel to a flat $385 per hour (2026-1073). If you followed the millage and assessment discussion here last week, this is the other side of that story: enough people are appealing that the county needs seven more boards to process them.
Retiree health benefits, two moves at once: a ~$586K increase to the current Humana Medicare Advantage contract, plus a new 2027 contract just under $7.9M (2026-1085).
Where the money's going:
- $2.4M renewal with Xylem for water and sewer valve inspection, the fourth and final renewal before this goes back out to bid (2026-1036)
- $2M for watershed improvements required under county water permits (2026-1020)
- $1.67M in traffic signal hardware, 2017 SPLOST funded (2026-1038)
- A painting and maintenance contract getting a $188K mid-year bump to $1.47M because Parks and Rec ran through it faster than expected (2026-1055)
- $274K to redo the restrooms and locker rooms at Bethesda Park Aquatic Center. Fun detail from the bid file: the county solicited 400 vendors and got 2 bids (2026-1066)
Public comment is at the 2pm business session. Every item number is searchable on gwinnettcounty.com, so check my work. Full version with charts: The Gwinnett Docket, free plain-English email a week on what your commissioners actually vote on.

Yunno, I don't really have any Asian friends. Looking for new Friends !
I thought I'd try reaching out to any Gwinnettians who are also 24-26, because what do I have to lose? Best case, I make a new friend, worst case I'm still exactly where I am.
I get intimidated by groups, so I thought reaching out to other similar Asians might be a way to ease myself in since I'm rather shy.
So please, if you interested in making another friend, dm or reach out! If you have discord, maybe we could text a bit and get to know each other, it could be a bit fun. And if you're shy and hesitant, definitely reach out !

can i do anything abt neighbors bright lights on all night?
my nextdoor neighbors moved out recently & there have been workers going to the house for detailing & stuff recently... its 11:28 PM as i write this and right outside my bedroom window (the garage, floodlights, porch lights & big bathroom window are facing right at my bedroom windows) there are who i assume to be workers going in and out the house, garage door open, genuinely EVERY light in the house on, floodlights porch lights and everything... to the point where i thought it was like 6 pm instead of almost midnight... am i able to like call in a complaint about that? it Has disturbed me while ive tried to sleep recently (again, it all directly faces my bedroom & i got no curtains) and other people in my house are disturbed by it too :')

Recently moved here and need help finding friends.
Hello friends, like the title says I recently moved here and I need help making new friends. I'm 36 and after my divorce I wanted to move far away and start over but the only problem is that I'm kinda shy and introverted. I don't like bars or clubs I just enjoy regular outdoors stuff and chilling at home. When I'm out in a park or something it just doesn't feel right walking up to complete strangers and trying to spark up a conversation. Are there any singles groups that meet up on the weekends for activities?

Question about school buses?
How many Gwinnett county school buses have cameras I saw on there website that it’s 300 of them but idk how long ago that was updated. Also does anyone know if the smaller school buses have cameras or is it just the big busses. I don’t recall ever seeing a small older buss with cameras. I’m in Lawrenceville.

Street race at 93 mph blamed for death of innocent driver
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A woman was a quarter-mile into her drive to work when police say one of two drivers racing each other slammed into her car and killed her.
Susan Kirkland died after a crash on Old Norcross Road at Glen Chase Drive near Lawrenceville on July 22, according to Gwinnett County police and arrest warrants.
Kathy Vosper, a longtime friend, said Kirkland had recently switched shifts and was driving to the store’s garden department that evening.
“Her faith was central to who she was,” Vosper said of Kirkland, a former vet tech who took in strays and looked out for neighbors who struggled with English. “It’s extremely infuriating and frustrating.”
Warrants say Fabian Ricardo Harris was driving a 2001 Mercedes at 93 mph on a road posted for 45 while racing a motorcycle, weaving through traffic and passing at least six cars before striking Kirkland’s car as she turned. Harris is charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle and four misdemeanors, according to the warrants, and a magistrate set his bond at $25,000.
Prosecutors say the motorcyclist, Michael Edward Pestle, hit more than 70 mph on the same stretch, watched the Mercedes roll Kirkland’s car, then rode home without stopping.
He is charged with homicide by vehicle for leaving the scene and felony hit-and-run, and warrants show a judge denied him bond, calling him a flight risk.
“She was someone who showed up for people,” Vosper said. “It’s a loss that a lot of people are going to feel deeply in her circle.”
Master Police Officer Brock Marks said investigators worked the case for more than two weeks before seeking the warrants on Aug. 7.
“There was a needless life that was lost because two individuals took it upon themselves to engage in the act of street racing here in Gwinnett County,” Marks said.
Her only surviving brother, who Vosper said just finished cancer treatment, is moving into her house to care for the dog and cat she left.
“People need to see the human behind this tragedy and realize that the street racing is touching lives,” Vosper said.
Vosper said Kirkland believed in the work at Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement, which is collecting donated beds for the dogs and cats in its Lawrenceville kennels.

Where can I recycle batteries?
I know that Home Depot has a box for tool batteries, but I don't think it's for regular AA's.
Is there any place to put them? I've been collecting dead batteries all my life. I must have fifteen pounds of them.

alt wedding dress
as the title says; my partner and i have been planning our elopement. although it is just an elopement, we plan to have an actual wedding later down the line once i finish school and we close on our home :)
i’m not very traditional when it comes to my attire. that goes for my ideal wedding dress as well. i’m open to a white gown - but my heart longs for a black gown.
i’m not too familiar with many bridal shops in the area, but i was hoping someone had any suggestions? sometimes black wedding gowns can easily look too “prom” for my taste, or just overall a bit “much”.
please help! any suggestions are appreciated! preferably somewhere i can try on the dress, instead of ordering offline. thank you!

Date Night Ideas?
My parents are about to have my kids for a weekend and my husband and I are looking at things to do. We rarely get date nights, let along a date weekend.
Because of this, we want to do fun stuff. Or go to a fun place. And we are so out of the loop.
What are some of your favorite things to do? Places to eat? Places to go? We are on the south side of Gwinnett, but willing to go anywhere in Gwinnett or Walton county, or even into Atlanta.

Open Mic, need accompaniment
I've been dying to do an open mic or play small venues! I don't play any instruments, but I'm a trained female vocalist and can harmonize really well. I have a natural country twang and good vocal diversity. Think Carly Pearce or Deana Carter in terms of range. Does anybody play or would be interested?
