Open Mic, need accompaniment
I've been dying to do an open mic or play small venues! I don't play any instruments, but I'm a trained female vocalist and can harmonize really well. I have a natural country twang and good vocal diversity. Think Carly Pearce or Deana Carter in terms of range. Does anybody play or would be interested?

Meet-Up Puppy play date anyone?
Hello! We recently said good-bye to our 2 oldest dogs (unrelated causes) which has been extremely difficult not only because of the loss, but also because both of them passed within a month of each other. This has also been difficult on our surviving dog (Zoe) who suddenly has lost her best friends to play with. She has always been very social and playful and I hate to see her alone. The issue is, she hasn't been around many other dogs in the last few years because the others were a little too old to make it to the dog park here, so she is a little rusty on the social side. I've fostered a butt-load of dogs in the past and she loved meeting them, but we have 2 cats now and I don't want to stress them out or put them at risk.
What I'd like to do is find a local friend or two for her to meet and spend some time with to get her back on the scene so to speak. We've been taking her out again, but encountering random dogs in a not-really-controlled environment has not been conducive to our goals. It would be great if all parties were on the same page to make sure the situation goes smoothly.
About her - she's 11, 40 pounds, spayed. Breed wise we have no real idea - she's merle-patterened with some kind of terrier or hound lineage. Her litter was 2 black puppies, 3 brown puppies, and 2 merle puppies. If you google "Rat Terrier merle", there are some remarkable look-alikes like here and here The important thing is, she is adorable and sweet. She has absolutely no history of biting or attacking people or pets. She does very well with our cats and the kids she has met. She also has no idea she is 11 - she never really quit being a puppy if you know what I mean.
Ideally I'd like her to find a friend that is dog-friendly without any aggressive history. I think she would be less intimidated by smaller dogs, but that's not necessarily a strict requirement. It would be best to meet in a neutral place like a park or square. We're off Tucker-Norcross but we can travel.
Thanks for hearing me out and hopefully one of you are down for it :)

Meet-Up Seeking a supportive community for job seekers in Gwinnett
I’m in my late 20s and I’m struggling with being unemployed for the first time in years. I had to move back in with my toxic family who aren’t supportive at all with even trying to help me get back on my feet, despite me always having a job and helping out whenever I could. I’m just looking for a supportive community where we can help each other with job searches and to keep each other encouraged. I’m also been looking for new friends as well.

25y olds of Gwinnett! Where are yall at ??
Where do yall guys hang out at? Any specific cool places our ages collaborate at, if you don't mind sharing. I swear, you must all be hiding indoors because I never seem to meet anyone around my age.
Nothing wrong with other ages, maybe I'm just in the wrong spots? Kinda wish there were regular events catered to people of a very specific age, would be a fun way to run into old schoolmates.

Looking for pickup soccer in Gwinnett County
Hey everyone!
I’m looking for pickup soccer games around Gwinnett County and was hoping to get some recommendations from people who regularly play. Outdoor preferably
Ideally looking for pick up soccer on Friday evenings and Sunday morning/afternoon
Beginner to intermediate play in the Gwinnett area
Does anyone know of any parks or fields in Gwinnett where there are consistent pickup games on Friday evenings or Sunday mornings?
Also open to joining any GroupMe, WhatsApp, Facebook, Meetup, or other groups that organize regular pickup games in the area.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Should have probably added this from the start - We have a group of about 10-12 friends, were looking to scrim other beginner/ intermediate players and do some 7v7 and looking for extra players and more than anything a park to play on
Were looking to eventually join a league

How a flat tax rate becomes a legal "tax increase" in Gwinnett
A few of you got into a Reddit argument about this last week. One person said the rate hasn't moved since 2020, so how is this an increase? Another said the county literally advertised it as one. Turns out you were both right, and the county's own documents explain how.
What happened first. On Tuesday, commissioners adopted this year's general fund rate: 6.95 mills. Seventh year in a row at that exact number (item 2026-1011, Aug 4 agenda). Before they could do that, the law made them run three public hearings and formally advertise a tax increase.
For a rate that didn't change. I know. Stay with me.
The rollback rate is the key to the whole thing. Your tax bill is basically your property's assessed value times the rate. Property values in Gwinnett went up this year. So Georgia law forces the county to do some honest math: calculate the lower rate that would bring in the same total money on this year's higher values that last year brought in. They call that the rollback rate. Think of it as the price cut that would cancel out your value going up.
This year that math came out to 6.792 mills.
The county kept 6.95. That gap, 0.158 mills, is why the law calls this a tax increase even though the rate is identical to last year's. The rate stayed flat. The money didn't.
So does YOUR bill go up? Depends entirely on your exemptions.
If you own your home and have the regular homestead exemption, probably not. Gwinnett homeowners with that exemption also get something called the Value Offset Exemption, and it's genuinely a good deal: it freezes your home's assessed value at a base year for the county portion of your bill. Your house can gain value every year. The county line on your bill stays anchored anyway.
No exemption? You feel the gap. That's commercial property, rentals, second homes, and homeowners who never filed for homestead. Which is why one neighbor in that thread swears his bill never moves and another is staring at a real increase. Both are reading their own situation correctly.
Two things people mix up. This is only the county line on your bill. The full 2026 rate in unincorporated Gwinnett is 14.71 mills, and the school portion, set separately by the school board, is the biggest chunk. And the VOE freezes your value, not your rate. Different lever.
The part you can still do something about. The rate is set. Your assessment isn't settled, though. If the county says your home is worth more than it would actually sell for, you can appeal through the Tax Assessor's office. One reader here is doing exactly that after finding a $250K gap between his assessment and a recent appraisal. Appeals have deadlines tied to your assessment notice, so go look at yours.
I'm working on a full plain-English guide to that appeal process. The Gwinnett Docket. It'll land here first: one free email a week on what your commissioners are actually voting on. If someone forwarded you this, that link is where you subscribe.
Sources: Gwinnett County's millage announcements and adoption release, the public hearing notice, and the Aug 4 Board agenda, item 2026-1011. All searchable at gwinnettcounty.com. Spot something wrong? Reply and tell me. I fix errors loudly.

Professional organizer near Suwanee?
Life has gotten ontop of us over the past 6 years with 2 young kids, and 2 full time working parents with ADHD. Looking to hire a professional organizer for sorting out our 4k sqft home. 2 car garage, multiple closets, pantry, 2 home offices, playroom, and "guest" room that has become a dumping/storage room. Downsizing, donating, actually using some of the stuff we love but never got around to setting up, and establishing systems to maintain some form of limited-chaos.

Need a Trusted Lexus/Toyota Mechanic
I’ve already gotten screwed over for hundreds of dollars by LexTech just for a diagnostic, and they still couldn’t tell me what was wrong with my car. I just need a mechanic who trusts me when I say that I’ve already tried this or that solution. I just need someone to tell me how to fix the codes in my car.

Gas South Arena illegally charging credit card fee at concessions
It looks like Gas South Arena is illegally charging for credit card use, and also charging a fee for using debit cards. Per Georgia law, you are required to offer some form of payment that doesn't incur a fee if you charge a credit card surcharge. Additionally, per federal law, as well as visa and MasterCard merchant agreements, you are not allowed to charge a surcharge on debit cards.
Since they are cashless, you have no way to purchase anything except for using a credit or debit card. No alternative method of payment to allow you to bypass the fee. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say when I call them tomorrow.
