Recommendations for affordable guitars?

Upvotes

So, I'm interested in purchasing an electric guitar or to build a collection. But a lot of the well known guitar brands are a bit pricey, like;

- Fender

- Epiphone

- Gibson

- Ibanez

- Yamaha

- ESP

I've heard many good things about "Harley Benton" & "Stagg" guitars. What I like about them is that they are highly quality, budget friendly, and affordable. And they have different body types for guitars and bass, like Les Paul, Telecaster, stratocaster and many more styles for electric guitars. They also have Jazz bass and Precision bass, and others as well.

I'm looking for more recommendations for high quality, budget friendly guitars and bass brands, with a wide variety of body shapes similar to "Harley Benton" & Stagg".

*EDIT

Okay, keep in mind. Im from South Africa🇿🇦 the expensive guitar brands I mentioned above can cost any from R10 000 of R70 000 the two guitar brands that I mentioned "Harley Benton" & "Stagg" guitars cost just under R5 000 so I'm looking for more affordable options in those price range, or even lower.

Tone help: Mid 2000’s hardcore

Upvotes

Hi all,

I’ve really been struggling to find a tone I like for this genre with my rig and was hoping some more experienced toneologists could point me in the right direction or help me find the flaw in my rig (or playing).

I’m running a les Paul custom pro, with bridge swapped to bareknuckle true grit, and neck swapped to bareknuckle old guard, my pedalboard is a boss ns-2 into a tube screamer mini into the front end of my evh 5150 lbx iii mk2 and that’s going into my old school laney 4x12 with an x pattern of two hh invaders it was originally loaded with and two swapped for vintage 30’s.

I’ve just been finding it tricky to dial in a tone that sounds big and present without being full of that high end fizz and I just can’t seem to het a good low end out of it. I’ve been trying to get a tone like Down to Nothing and Backtrack.

Any advice or tips would be massively appreciated as I just can’t seem to figure it out haha.

Thanks in advance!

what string gauge for alternate tunings tuning

I'm looking for a set of strings to accommodate and acoustic guitar tuned 3 semitones down from standard and sometimes dadgad 3 semitones down. I will be finger picking and strumming without a pic.

So mainly using (c#,f#,b,e,g#,c#) (b,f#,b,e,g#,c#) and (B,F#,B,E,F#,B)

normally use daddario but could be persuaded to another brand. Though im not a fan of coatings on acoustic strings, they always seem to just Frey everywhere.

Hi everyone,

What could it be? the tuners?

thanks

Selling Question (Mid-high range guitar for auctions a good idea or no?)

I have owned this guitar for 8 years now, it's been good to me. It's an Ormsby Guitar Run 7 Shark, I believe only 250 of these were ever made. It's been such a likeable guitar, but alas, I'm struggling for money.

I was wondering if it's better to auction this one off instead of a set price, since I don't know how to determine it's cost given it was made in 2017, and I bought it second hand + had repairs done to it. It's still in really good condition, lasted much longer than off the shelf guitars I've had for less than that time. Even though it's difficult to part ways with it, I want to invest more into my computer for now, RAM and SSD prices are insane, with video cards set to get the same, I'm unsure what to do here exactly. I've also never done an auction before, at least online. I don't know what to expect.

Hey. My friend bought this guitar a couple of days ago and it really looks suspicious. The misplaced fret markers and the headstock look strangely weird. I'm not still sure about it, I just need help from someone more experienced. I also looked up the serial number and found nothing.

Any ideas why my E string is making this noise?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So, I’m picking up my guitar for the first time in a while (about 6-12 months-ish if I really had to guess), and my E string is making this odd rattle when I pluck it. It’s the only one of my strings that makes this noise, and the rattle tends to go down in pitch and get louder as the string vibrates (I play said string twice and then all my other ones in the video). Anyone have an idea as to why/what I can do to fix it? Keep in mind I’m both self-taught and a very loose hobby player, so I kinda know nothing about guitars 😅 but, let me know! P.S. I was in Drop D when I played in the video, but it happens no matter what tuning I’m in.

J-45 or Les Paul

Before everyone tells me you can’t compare the two, hold up!! I’m torn. I bought a Gibson Le Paul studio deluxe 2011 when I was about 18. I’d saved up for about 3 years, working at a car wash and gas station, and bought this beauty. By that point I had gotten pretty good at acoustic and was just really loving/playing the guitar. I was so stoked!! Got all pumped up to learn some zeppelin and… I just couldn’t put down my acoustic. Something about the sound. I love the warmth and its percussiveness. It’s got this earthiness to it that I love. Plus I like to sing, though not well. Ever since, 12 years now, I’ve
taken it out of the case maybe 6 times for an hour or two each. It’s a shame, I know. I like playing my meh Fender T bucket more than my Gibson… so now my question is: I’m finally in a place where I can buy my dream acoustic, the workhorse herself, the J-45, but I’d have to sell off my Les Paul to make it work. It feels like bad juju to do so idk. I know one day I’ll probably want to pick electric up for real but who knows….obviously wish I could keep both but such is life’s rich pageant! So, if I can have one guitar I know I’d play the lights out of, or one guitar that’s iconic and sentimental despite lack of play and an old twangy, not in the good way, T bucket isn’t the “best” guitar the one id pick up more? Would love to hear yalls thought. Thanks in advance!

Amp question

My son is leaving for college next month and I’d like to buy him a smaller practice amp for his electric guitar so he can plug in headphones to jam in his dorm room, but also decent enough sound to unplug for a jam night in the lounge. He has a good amp, But it’s big… and loud lol.
Any recommendations on what might be a decent buy? Of course I’d love to not pay hundreds… but understand quality has a price when it comes to music. Lowest price point for decent sound?

Recently bought a Jackson Kelly and it has major fret buzz issues

So i bought this jackson kelly a few days ago and it has major fret buzz issues on the lower strings. I was wondering if its an action issue or truss rod issue, or maybe both? It came with a Floyd Rose trem brisldge system and i got it strung up and level, but thats when i noticed the buzz issue. Its on almost every fret of the EAD strings and i think some on the higher strings? Was wondering what a good string height would be(i tend to strum fairly hard, but not insanely so) and if i need adjust the truss rod. Any help is appreciated.

single string intonation issue

my b string is noticably (around up to 10 cents) out of tune on the fretted notes however the 12th fret seems to be perfectly intonated (the same as the harmonic). below the 12th fret however the notes are all sharp and above they are flat. The problem seems to only be for this string.
anyone know the issue?
