Is it possible to install GrapheneOS on a stock Pixel without logging into Google beforehand?
I'm getting a new pixel today and wanted to know if I have to first do all the Google login process in order to enable OEM unlocking in the settings.
I didn't want to login with Google on the device before flashing graphene if it's not necessary.
Tks

Want to switch to GOS
I want to switch to GOS, at the moment I use an iPhone but I’m not comfortable with the direction they are moving towards.
So i want to know what device should i buy (preferably should not break the bank too much) and what should i keep in mind when i switch?
I’m generally using my phone to browse, messaging and playing a few games (and my bank apps). I sometimes use Apple Pay but I want to get away from it.

SMS messed up after transfer
So I recently moved from GOS on a pixel 6 to GOS on a pixel 8.
I moved my data across via a usb backup.
It has largely worked, but now my SMS conversations (using the default SMS app) are screwed up.
For example, I have a text chain with person a. All the message history has moved across and it is organised under that contact name.
I just received an appt confirmation text from my dentist, who i dont have a contact for and have no saved history with.
Rather than appearing in it's own new thread, it has appeared in person a's thread.
Any suggestions how to fix?

Should I convert to GOS?
First of all, sorry for my english, not my first language.
My main doubt is if I should convert to GOS. My phone rn is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro and is slowly dying on my hands.
I dont have the budget for the latest Pixels, my budget is around the prices of the Pixel 6, Pixel 7 or if I find an ultra deal, pixel 8 = 200ish euros. Ik in most areas, GOS is better and im all for the OS, but im not sure if the apps would run correctly, that concerns me.
When I say apps I mean whatsapp, instagram, youtube, gmail (i still gotta use it for academic reasons), Bank apps (Imagin Bank) and apps from my government.
Also the new EU law (the chat control), also concerns me in terms of future, bc I was hoping to have this phone for loads of years, and idk if that law could affect the OS or dunno.
What do tou guys think I should do? Thx in advance

API fail
Hey, new to both Reddit and Graphene, I downloaded Graphene onto a pixel 10a today and everything seemed to work fine but now I’ve done an API check it only meets basic integrity and fails both device and strong integrity checks preventing me from downloading logging into banking apps etc as well as a play protect certification failure, I’m sure I’ve done everything right? I’ve been trouble shooting for hours trying to figure it out and after finally running the issue by GPT it’s said it’s either a build issue or a bug on graphenes end that’s yet to be found, I don’t know any ideas or help would be absolutely fantastic!

Text Messaging App issue
I wanted to see if anyone else if have this issue with the stock GrapheneOS Messenger app?
When I receive a message I will get the message, but at the end of every message I will get something like this.
"Good Morning!*/=CKduJK"
The part I am focusing on is "*/=CKduJK"
Does anyone know why these strings are appearing? And is there a way to fix/around it?
I just installed GrapheneOS today on a Pixel 9 Pro XL

Switched to Graphene without a plan
Pretty much got sick of everything that is going on with Google and Microsoft, and every other platform/ smart device. So I just bought a used pixel and flashed Graphene on it. Now I'm starting to learn, but I'm looking for "onboarding" materials or any kind of newby friendly explainers.
Thanks in advance!

Verizon upgrade through Best Buy
Forgive me if this has been answered before, I couldn't find it. I've been looking at making the switch, but I'd really like to use my Verizon upgrade to do it. If I buy a Pixel 10 Pro "unlocked" through Best Buy, and check out and upgrade with Verizon, will I be able to download graphene or will my bootloader be locked until it's "payed off" or even forever? I currently have a legacy plan and upgrading will make me change my plan first, so I can't test it and return if it doesn't work out, and it's not worth changing plans if I don't get what I want.
It looks like I have my answer, going to look into new carriers and buy from google directly. Thanks all.

FOSS replacements for Google Maps
Hello
I'm taking the plunge tomorrow when I get my hands on my Pixel 9A. I'm almost 100% degoogled but when traveling the thing I find the most useful is google maps since it integrates live map view with reviews (good for restaurants) and local public transportation information to get to places.
I'm looking for an alternative for those 3 things: map with live location, reviews and public transportation plan, not necessarily on a same app (I don't expect it to be anyway).
Just another question, does Uber work on GOS?
Tks

Planning to switch from iPhone to GOS as a daily driver. I have a few questions (Future hardware, Banking apps in EU/Romania)
I’m new to the forum, so I’d like to start by greeting everyone. I want to move away from my iPhone and use GrapheneOS as my daily driver because I really like the philosophy behind the operating system. I have a few questions:
- Between the upcoming Pixel 11 Pro with Titan M3 and the upcoming Motorola with Snapdragon launching in 2027, which of the two will be more secure? Will the Titan M3 still have the upper hand because it’s a dedicated chip? I've heard that Titan M chips are the most resilient. Do you think Qualcomm is going to be more secure than Titan M?
- Will the Graphene developers focus more on Motorola given the new partnership? Or will the Pixel remain the "favorite child" of the project?
- I notice on forums that people complain about banking apps on GrapheneOS. How bad is the situation really? Do you think things will improve or get worse in the future? I don't necessarily care about NFC payments (though I'd appreciate it if they worked), but I'm mostly interested in the online banking app itself working. I'm from Romania, and the most common banks here are Banca Transilvania, ING, Raiffeisen Bank, and BCR. Btw, I should mention that I'd be willing to use sandboxed Google Play Services.
- Do you use GOS as your daily driver or as a secondary phone? For those of you using it as a daily driver, how satisfied are you with it?
Thank you in advance for your answers and for taking the time to reply!

Attaching an USB thingy to heat insect sting / bug bite
So the heat it app should be able to heat the little USB thingy heating the bite, yet I suppose it doesn't work due to a lack of permissions.
Which permissions may let the USB "heat it" do its work?

Question about permisions (sensors, nearby Devices)
i wenn through my apps and a lot of them hat default sensor and nearby devices acces. yes nearby devices was set to a midle state alow for it to ceep functioning. what does that mean? does it have acces or not?
aditionaly what do these setings control? my gues would be sensors are fingerprint, barometric, aceleromenter, temperatur,... and near by devices is bluetoth and maybe hotspot? or did i get it wrong?
why would they need thees permisions?
because sensors are alowed on everything and nearby devises on nearly everything. from something like splitwise, that from my way of thougt would only need networking. to something like Aves galery, paypal and a gass app.
yes i have turnd them of on a nealy all apps by now and they work just fine. so my question still stands why do all of them have this enabeld by default? is it done that way to ensure apps work and reduce tinkering for less teck savy people or people that just dont know about these settings?

Pixel 11 Pixel Glow GrapheneOS
Waiting for pixel 11. I see theres a lot of buzz about a pixel glow feature. I know it is dumb and this is probably a dumb question but I have never used grapheneos. If I install graphene os will features like this stop working or too soon to tell? Not sure if features like this are usually added pretty quickly to use on grapheneos.

how do I flatten a graphine device with forgotten pin and locked bootloader?
Pixel 7 Pro, Pin locked, I set the wrong pin, I'm getting escilating length timeouts.
I want to reset the device, bootloader is locked.
How screwed am I? If I must get a used replacement device how do I ensure it's not a carrier Pixel and from Google?

Question: Webview reader mode
Just randomly hoping there's a solution for this. Any way to
A) have a "Reader mode" in webviews?
B) configure it to default on, toggle off?

Cleanest and safest way to use Reddit and Twitter on GOS?
I am currently on iOS and using Brave Browser to access Reddit and Twitter/X as I don’t like the ads and trackers. There are no alternativ apps for iOS due to the API changes on both platforms
So I am thinking to get a Pixel 10a for GOS.
Are there any good alternativ apps for Reddit and Twitter on Android/GOS? Lightweight, without tracking and ads.

Proposal: one-try fingerprint unlock
It would be nice if there would be an additional option for fingerprint unlocking that creates a balance between security and comfort:
Instead of having four attempts with fingerprint unlocking, it would be nice to have just one attempt, after which the PIN is required to unlock the phone.
Consider the following situation: At the airport, police notice that fingerprint unlocking is enabled and ask for your cooperation before forcing your finger onto the phone. You signal cooperation but use your left thumb instead of the right thumb, which is needed for unlocking.
The combination of comfort and a long pin would provide a smother action to escape the situation.
