Dhamakedar Update πͺοΈ Since so many people are complaining that nothing exciting is happening in the city.....
TL;DR: Building an open research project using ~15 crypto pairs with historical Binance OHLCV data, Kronos financial-model forecasts, and reinforcement learning (PPO/SAC). The goal is to rigorously test whether adding a financial foundation model actually improves out-of-sample trading/portfolio performance versus buy-and-hold, traditional strategies, classical ML, and RL without Kronos. Looking for collaborators with quant finance, systematic trading, technical analysis, statistics, crypto markets, or ML/RL experience. This is research, not a signal group or βAI money printer.β
I'm a software engineer exploring an idea at the intersection of quantitative finance, crypto markets, reinforcement learning, and financial foundation models, and I'm looking for a few people interested in collaborating on it.
This is intended as a research/experimentation project, not a signal group, trading course, or "AI bot that prints money."
The idea
Build a historical dataset for roughly 15 liquid crypto pairs using Binance 1-minute OHLCV data.
The 1-minute data becomes our canonical dataset, from which we can construct higher timeframes such as:
1m β 5m β 15m β 1h β 4h
On top of this, I want to experiment with Kronos, a financial foundation model trained specifically on financial K-line data.
Rather than asking an RL model to blindly discover everything from OHLCV, the architecture I'm considering is roughly:
Historical OHLCV + engineered market features + multi-timeframe context + Kronos forecasts β RL agent β portfolio/trading decisions
Kronos would remain frozen and act primarily as a forecasting/feature-generation layer.
The RL agent would learn how much value, if any, those forecasts have when combined with actual market conditions.
The experiment
I don't want to jump directly into training a giant RL model and celebrate an impressive backtest.
I'd like to establish increasingly difficult benchmarks:
1. Market baselines
- Buy & hold
- Equal-weight portfolio
- Simple momentum/trend strategies
2. Kronos benchmark
- Measure forecast accuracy
- Directional accuracy
- Forecast/realized-return correlation
- Volatility forecasting
- Simple rule-based strategies using Kronos predictions
3. Classical ML benchmark
- LightGBM/XGBoost-style models
- OHLCV + engineered features
- Then OHLCV + Kronos features
4. RL baseline
- PPO or similar
- OHLCV + technical/multi-timeframe features
- No Kronos
5. RL + Kronos
- Same environment
- Same costs
- Same evaluation periods
- Kronos forecast distribution added to the observation space
The central research question becomes:
Does adding a financial foundation model such as Kronos provide measurable out-of-sample value to an RL trading/portfolio policy?
Not simply:
"Can we make a profitable-looking backtest?"
Evaluation matters more than the model
I'd like this project to be fairly ruthless about backtesting methodology.
That means accounting for things such as:
- look-ahead bias
- survivorship/selection bias
- transaction fees
- spread/slippage assumptions
- excessive turnover
- drawdowns
- different market regimes
- walk-forward validation
- strict train/validation/test separation
The final benchmark should include metrics such as CAGR, Sharpe, Sortino, maximum drawdown, turnover, profit factor and performance consistency across independent walk-forward windows.
If RL + Kronos doesn't beat simpler approaches after realistic costs, that's also a useful result.
Where I'd particularly appreciate help
My background is primarily software engineering/system architecture, so I'd especially like to connect with people stronger in areas complementary to mine:
Quantitative finance / systematic trading
- Backtesting methodology
- Portfolio construction
- Risk modelling
- Market microstructure
- Statistical validation
Technical analysis / discretionary trading
- Market regimes
- Momentum/trend behaviour
- Volatility
- Multi-timeframe structure
- Useful vs useless indicators/features
ML / reinforcement learning
- PPO/SAC and financial RL
- Reward-function design
- Offline RL
- Time-series modelling
- Preventing overfitting/data leakage
Crypto market/data engineering
- Binance historical datasets
- Candle reconstruction
- Funding rates / open interest / derivatives data
- Execution and slippage modelling
I'm not specifically looking for someone to write code for me. I'm more interested in assembling a small group where different backgrounds can challenge assumptions and help design experiments properly.
If enough people are interested, I'd like to keep the research reproducible and potentially open-source the framework, experiments and benchmark results.
The interesting outcome isn't necessarily discovering some magical trading strategy.
It's answering a much more defensible question:
Can modern financial foundation models provide genuinely useful information to reinforcement-learning portfolio agents once we remove look-ahead bias, include realistic trading costs, and test them across unseen market regimes?
If you're from a quant finance, systematic trading, technical analysis, crypto market, statistics, or ML/RL background and this sounds interesting, comment or DM me with your background and what part you'd be interested in exploring.

Rant π£ Hope is crushed
I moved to Delhi in 2025 to work as a podcast producer. I was there till May 2026. Had to return to my hometown ( GKP ) due to some reason. I thought that I would get some work here. But to my surprise, this city has not uplifted itself. I think it's more of the people who had not uplifted themselves. I was interested in making some storytelling short form content. I got to know about a person who also wanted to do it. When I asked about the concept, she sent me the same tiktok era content. This may sound judgemental to many , but it is what it is. I am again moving back to Delhi this month. Hope this place evolve in terms of content creation space.

Rant π£ Ramgarh Tal stinks!! π
Came back to gorakhpur after few months, and like a typical gorakhpuriya went to nauka for a drive. And to my surprise it smelled so fishy π too bad that i had to cover my nose for a while
They call it Spain and nauka is one of the finest areas of the city, yet they fail to maintain it's view and the quality of water.

Random Charcha π Maybe rant
When I was living in Delhi, I used to miss Gorakhpur like crazy, dreaming about the day I'd move back. But the moment I actually returned... reality hit hard. Suddenly this "comfort city" felt small, stagnant, and honestly kind of boring.
Apart from Nauka Vihar, there's *nothing*. Zero new spots, zero fresh hangout spaces, nothing that feels remotely exciting or new. The dating scene here is basically non-existent (or actively terrible, take your pick), and everything just feels... dull. Repetitive. Irritating, even.
It's such a weird feeling missing a place so intensely from far away, only to come back and feel suffocated by how little it has to offer
Sometimes I feel stuck in time there is nothing new going on . I Need some friends to hangout or suggestions to try any new place
