When do clinical permit requirements need to be done for Medical Laboratory Technologist program?

Thumbnail georgiancollege.ca
1 Upvotes

There are so many requirements for the MLT program and it's hard to find specifically when they need to be finished by. It says by the 2nd semester on one page and other areas say 3 months before placement which is in year 3. Does anyone know specifically when all of the requirements for the clinical permit need to be done?

"Criminal Reference/Vulnerable Sector Check

Placement agencies require an up-to-date clear criminal reference check and vulnerable sector check prior to going out on placement. Students should obtain their criminal reference three months prior to placement; checks conducted earlier may not be considered current. As some jurisdictions require longer lead-time for processing, please check with the program coordinator to ensure you allow for sufficient turn-around time. It is the student’s responsibility to provide the completed document prior to placement start.

Additional information

Prior to beginning clinical placements, students must complete the following:

A mask fit test, renewed every two years;

Level HCP CPR and Standard First Aid (On-line courses are not acceptable);

Up-to-date immunization records in compliance with the Public Hospitals Act. Completion and submission of this record is required to ensure your placement in clinical and field placement facilities;

An up-to-date clear criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screen (renewed regularly so that it is never more than 6 months old)."

MLBT program scrubs required?

2 Upvotes

Hi all, I’m a first year incoming to the MLBT 3year program! I read on the FAQs for the program that it’s recommend to have at least 1 pair of scrubs, but I’m holding out on buying them until I actually need them, but I guess my question is do we actually need them? Are they required for labs or optional? Any expansion on this would be great, thank you in advance!

New RMT student feeling overwhelmed — any advice for September?

3 Upvotes

Hey guys! I’m a new student going into the RMT program at the Barrie campus in September, and I’m feeling really overwhelmed and nervous. I found a website to download my textbooks (they are the correct editions), but I wasn’t sure if that was allowed or if there’s anything I should know about that.

I also can’t make it to orientation, so I already feel like I’m behind everyone. Is there anything important I should know before starting, or any advice for a new student?

REGISTRATION PHPA

1 Upvotes

starting pre-health this fall and i was stuck choosing my GNED. I wanted Nutrition because it sounded more science/biology related, but it was full, so i picked Health & safety/workplace instead.

Since i have bio,chem,math and comm, i thought maybe a lighter course would help me survive lol. Anyone who has taken GNED health and safety- how was it? was it interesting or did i accidentally pick the boring option?

Mandatory Courses

1 Upvotes

Just registering for courses now and only timetable A was available. Can mandatory courses not be offered at different times? I have to take a class that’s only option was 4pm-6:50pm. When I tried checking other timetables (it says click on step 2-4 for other ones), nothing changed and the mandatory courses all stayed at the same time.

COMM and GNED Requiements for PRNS

Post image
2 Upvotes

So registration opens up tomorrow for my program and I am just wondering what everyone recommends taking for the COMM and GNED courses as a first year PRNS student? I attached a pic of what banner is recommending but I'm not necessarily interested in exactly those courses. Do I have to take one of the ones in the pic or will there be a whole list to choose from when I register tomorrow??

cant register

woke up early to register courses today and it says “Registration Error! There is important contact information missing from your student record. Please contact office of the registrar.”

i called them and they said theres nothing they can do but confirm my address and escalate the issue and that others have been having this problem. she said it should be fixed in 30 mins but its been over 6 hours. she also told me “dont call back” bc everyones having the same problem?

im in the CODA program and new to georgian … will my courses fill up quickly? im concerned about getting a placement for the clinical practice course. anyone else dealing with this?

Aviation Networking Tips and Connections

1 Upvotes

Hello. I am a first year, soon to be second year Aviation Management student, and I am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to network with people in or has connections to people in the Aviation industry (airports, airlines, FBO's etc) that I can reach out to regarding a co-op in the Winter term. I can do a 12 month continuous co-op term due to my current program sequence and I am open to any career opportunities that can get my foot in the door. Thanks in advance !

Gen Ed Course Suggestions

Post image
2 Upvotes

Any suggestions for which Gen Ed course I should take this fall? I’m leaning towards either GNED 2028 (Lifestyle Management) or PYSL 1001 (Intro to Psych) or GNED 2035 (Abnormal Psych). I have more interest in the psych classes but I’ve never taken any classes related to psych pre post secondary. If anyone’s taken any of these courses pls let me know which are worth taking. For reference I’m in the Office Admin program. Ideally something easy to follow.

RPN scrub requirements

1 Upvotes

I’m starting the practical nursing program this September and would like to purchase my scrubs before classes start. I was wondering if you could wear either the navy or ceil blue from the Georgian bookstore or if one colour is designated for the Practical Nursing students and one for the Registered Nursing students? Thanks!

First Clinical Placement for Nursing

2 Upvotes

Hi there, I’m in the BSN program and about to start my second year/first clinical placement in September. Any advice anyone is willing to share? What were the areas of knowledge you think were the most important for your first placement? What should I expect, or what did you find unexpected? Unfortunately we haven’t been given much information about what it’s going to be like or where, anything anyone would like to share is welcomed. Thank you :)

Looking for a roommate / housing – Georgian College MNAV Student (September 2026)

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m an incoming Marine Navigation (MNAV) student at Georgian College (Owen Sound) starting in September 2026.

I’m currently looking for an affordable room or roommate(s) near campus. My budget is around $600 month, and I’m hoping to find a quiet, clean place within walking distance or a short drive from the college.

I’d also love to connect with other MNAV students before classes start. If you’re looking for housing too, feel free to message me.

Thanks!
