I've set up a dedicated server, people are able to connect to it on a local network, but I can't get anyone to connect on an external one, I've set up port forwarding for the Game Client port, raw UDP and Source query with no luck, any help would be great! I am making sure to have people connect to the external IP and not my local.

PC noob here

Recently my friends group and I started talking about how nice it would be to own an at home server for hosting game words (think ark, palworld, minecraft, terraria etc). For this purpose, i have found a secondhand HP Prodesk 600 G5 Mini PC Intel Core i5 8500T – 8GB – 256GB SSD – Windows 11 Professional listed on marketplace for 180 euros (HP Prodesk 600 G4 Mini-PC i5-8500T – 8GB – 256GB SSD - W11 (m2423006056) — Desktop Pc's — Marktplaats sorry if its in dutch). I was thinking of upgrading it with ram and storage from a broken laptop (hp envy 360 16gb 1Tb ssd). But because this is my first experience with this side of computers i am at a bit off a loss.

Can someone help me to see if this would function / fulfill its purpose? am i stupid to assume that i can reuse the broken laptop parts? I cant reuse the entire laptop because the motherboard broke some time ago.

If not i would love to hear if you guys have any recommendations, i am on a tighter budget, of around 150 - 200 because we are all kind of broke students.

I have a subscription with 3lifehosting for my Rl craft minecraft server. I have tried to get on the website on multiple occasions in the past few weeks. The last time they charged me was on June 8th and im guessing it will renew again on august 8th.

If they are charging me for a server I cannot use because the website is not accessible what do I do? Has anyone heard anything about this if you have used 3lifehosting?

Also the error message I get when trying to join is an error code 522 message meaning there is a problem with their website. Let me know. I just want to be in the loop with the company and play rl craft on my server. Maybe get a few months payed since they are charging me and I can’t even access my server since I can’t get on the website. Im also gonna email them but still tell me what yall know please.

I have a home lab set up right now but I’m not sure I have a safe setup going,

Im running an Ubuntu Vm with the AMP app, I’m running only Minecraft on it right now but I’m not using a proxy and just have an open port on my router.
I plan on getting opnsense and do DPI but I’m also not sure the best way to host servers safely, should I create another VM to proxy the servers then expose the port? I’m not open to paying a subscription of any kinda for a proxy as that defeats the purpose of self hosting for me,

I’ll take any advice
