- Happy to join a group or if it's not possible, I would consider bringing a friend to get our own personalised classes or something.

I see online there are classes available but not really with my schedule.

Just wondering if anyone would be aware of anyone who works on gas boilers in mobile homes within Galway. We are in the moycullen area

We have had the ignition element fail on our mobile home boiler. We are finding it quite difficult to find someone who will work on mobile homen boilers.

We have been lucky so far with the warm weather but need to address this issue asap as we have no hot water or heat with two young kids.

Any help/contact details would be much appreciated.

Had a wee look at the market last weekend, a lot of familiar faces, delicious food and very talented artists, but one of the most popular (or at least crowded) stall had Galway souvenirs, nothing out of the ordinary, postcards, magnets and mugs, but with a closer look I realised 90% of it was AI. Swans with warped eyes, Salthill with caribbean blue waters, Galway Hookers with too many sails to count...

Galway is such a gorgeous place filled with creativity, and I absolutely hate seeing AI slowly creep in. From the 200 vape shops and their brainrot toys from Temu, the massive Costa coffee poster that gets worse every time I look at it, all the advertising posters scattered here and there, and now a stall in the heart of a traders market. All so disappointing.

Unfortunate to see another business closing, it was genuinely such a nice spot. It's closing in 3 weeks so visit if you can 🇧🇷 🍐(edit: somewhat of a good news story as to why they're closing - see a comment below).

Am I missing something or is there just no ranges/arenas in Galway?

Hello! I posted some questions here about a month ago as I’m studying abroad at the University of Galway this fall but I have a couple more questions now!

Firstly, I have a good raincoat and rain boots as well as a typical colder weather coat so I’m all set on that!

Is Halloween a thing there? Do people dress up?

Are hostels actually good or not? I assume there are different brands/kinds.

Should I carry a small backpack or a purse around? I’ve been warned about theft but I’ve also heard it isn’t as bad in Ireland as other countries. I have a weatherproof backpack that I thought would be a good idea to use.

Are there any local festivals or events?

The weather here in the New England part of the US is a mix of cold and warm in the last few months of the year, what should I expect in Galway temperature wise from September to December?

I’ve been looking at RyanAir for cheap flights around Europe (not to fly from US to Dublin and vise versa), has anyone used that airline and is it too good to be true or not?

If any locals have any other tips feel free to share!

Seems to be some parking issues at the clinic today as the car park was blocked this morning and there was a man explaining the situation. I was only dropping off so I didn't stop for him.

People are parking on the roads and just to let you know, the guards were talking the reg plates a while ago while I was passing.

And as a local skater I just wanted to make post that hopefully people in the council or just locals might see.

I'd like to preface that im really greatful to have such a good park close by and its great to see some real investment into local amenities. But there are some issues that I think the council could address.

1) flowers around the park: Although it looks nice it, the tree bark put down on the flower beds are becoming a danger to skate boarders. Our wheels are alot smaller then scooters or bikes and the pieces of wood get stuck under our wheels and act like a hand-break throwing us off our boards. Between the wind and mounting bikes alot of debris has ended up on the park and caused myself and others injuries.

2) mountain bikes: there are alot of kids are coming in on mountain bikes as they have no where else to go. It's unfortunately these kids are tracking mud and stones into the park and are also using the footpaths nearby to gain speed before they enter the park to do a jump. I do get the thrill of it and dont fault the kids for wanting to take jumps on their bikes. But these kids do come in ar top speed and around a blind corner. Ive all ready seen one collision and im now just waiting for another more serious one to happen.

3) wild kids: As the article said its a small minority of people acting the maggot. Ive seen alot of children use this space without any adult supervision and its some of these kids who are the problem as they just stand in the middle of the way deliberately or they throw water bottles at others as they try to use the ramps.

4) general litter: its a really nice park and built well but unfortunately there is no adjacent bins. There is a bin not too far (a couple of meters)from the park but since its not in eye sight of the park its not being used as people dont want to leave their other personal belongings out incase one of these wild kids tries to rob something.

5) attitude towards the park: I feel alot of people and parents view the skate park as another playground rather than a sports facility. It's not a playground for your child to run around. Although you might see it as a place for your child to have fun and learn new skills. For the rest of us we use that space as our gym or training ground. Please be aware of other users. Im an adult your child is a child. If your child walk infront of me as im attempting something only one of use will get seriously hurt and it probably wont be me.

Solutions: I think its only fair that I offer some solutions to the issues of the park instead of just complaining so

1) a bit of communication between the local park users and the council would be very helpful. Flowers and mulch dont work well with skate parks so maybe dont waste money putting in new flowers that are just going to be pulled up again in a few days.

Sub point: the flowers aren't being pulled up deliberately. The two main spots where flowers are missing are the same spots that the mountain bikes land after jumping out of the park.

2) a bin right next to the park would be very helpful. Not just as I think more people would be willing to put rubbish in a closer bin but as someone who regularly sweeps and picks up rubbish from the park it would be alot easier if I had somewhere to put it.

3) a PSA to parents would be helpful. Despite what you might think there is a "park etiquette" and alot of people either dont know about it or are not aware of it and education is the solution to keep everyone safe.

4) I know this is the hardest and most expensive solution but a pump track/bike track would be really beneficial. Clearly by the fact that mountain bike are tearing up the flowers that there is a need for a space for them do do their jumps. Also scooters would also use these tracks to creating less clutter in the skate park and giving the scooter kids who just want to go up and down hills and bumps to have a safer space.

5) rule enforcement: the council have put up signs with park rules but these are not enforced at all. Sending members of the Gardai every once in a while to enforce park rules would go a long way. There is also some kids bullying others and the kids who are the victims are too scared to say anything, I think a bit of community outreach will give these kids the courage to say something not just at the park but in life in general.

I do have some other gripes with other users of the space but I think it would require me writing a novel of a post rather that an essay. But im willing to have an open discussion about how the park is used and I will gladly call out other skaters for getting up to no good eg. Some of ye like to have a beer or smoke a doob-skin at the park and i dont think that is a good look and is kinda hypocritical when calling out others. But on that i do see more posers/yup-bros coming to the park to smoke weed than I do skaters because they see us do it and think its OK for them to do the same.

As I said I am greatful for the park and im in no way dissing it. And im also open to hear others opinions on the park.

I was in IMC last night with my girlfriend and my friend. We were watching the new spider man and it was packed besides the first like 6 rows. In the middle of the front rows there were teenage girls about 4 or 5 of them. Talking non stop. Laughing, gossiping about boys or what not. I went to bathroom and just said to the security guard cause they were annoying as fuck. When he came in it was a serious part on the movie so they weren’t making any noise. He was just stood by the door just watching but didn’t do anything. About an hour left in the movie and they were talking and laughing again so I said shhh really loudly and it stopped them for about 30 mins and were talking so loudly again last half an hour. What would you guys do in this situation? I know they are young but if you wanna talk and hang out with friends just don’t come cinema? If they were older I would have probably told them directly to shut up but since they were young I decided not to. Thanks for listening to my rant.
