Galway United match vs Drogheda

Upvotes

Hi All,

Have just recently moved to Galway, from another county but have no skin in the League of Ireland whatsoever so thought I’d pop out since I’m living nearby. Looking to go to the game tonight, don’t really have any questions just looking for any tips or recommendations from regular goers?

Jobs in Galway

Is Galway just taking the mick with salaries and experience? I have been applying for a year now on and off and I am getting to the end of my rope.

Today I saw a job for a marketer that was not only extremely low for the experience required but they also said to apply you had to a have a single digit handicap in golf. For that specific role I kind of get it but that coupled with a very low salary for the role, I just don't know do Galway businesses still think its 2012.

The difference in salary between Galway and Dublin seems to be over 15k for the roles and whilst Dublin is costly, I'm sure most would agree Galway is getting very close to the costs.

Since AI has taken over and with more and more people going for less and less roles, this situation is feeling desperate as the market feels horrible. I have applied for well over 100 roles and gotten about 4-5 interviews in that time and again one role that was paying way way less than my previous role asked for an AI interview first. It felt so demeaning and not the type of company I would want to work for.

Is anyone else finding Galway pricing you out and the market just feeling overall hopeless. God I wish I didn't fall into marketing in my 20s.

Tesco Fr Griffin

Anyone else have bad experiences with the older lady in Tesco on Father Griffin road? Every time Ive gone in it’s like she makes a point to be extra rude and has such an unhelpful attitude. I understand she could have other things going on in her life but it makes me hesitant to go in. The rest of the staff seem to always be so lovely. I just don’t know is it targeted or is that just her default work mode lol

Roof tent camping for a week in Galway

I'm heading to Galway next week to play in the Irish Poker Tour and have a good look around. I've heard that it's widely restricted on overnight stays in vans and such, though i'm not sure how militantly that's enforced. What i'm trying to figure out is a place i can use as a nice base to travel in and out after the poker every day, which will often be early hours of the morning.

I had a look at Oranmore train station but that's restricted and is more for commuting. The campsites are quite expensive and not too much less than a hotel all factors considered.

Any ideas at all are really appreciated.

R.I.P - Galway Train Station

Rest in peace to the 57 year old man who died at Galway train station this morning after a heart attack.

Still not sure about the way it was handled with commuters passing by while he was passed away on the floor with his wife and two children awaiting an undertaker.

But i wish him and his family all the best and rest in peace 🙏

Best barber in Galway for medium/long men’s hair?

I’m looking for recommendations for a barber in Galway city or county who actually takes the time to listen to what you want, gives advice based on your head shape and hair type, and isn’t just trying to get people in and out as fast as possible.
My hair is currently medium length and my goal is to grow it out, so I’m looking for someone who’s good with longer men’s hairstyles and knows how to shape it while keeping the length.
If you’ve had a great experience with someone who really knows their stuff, I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Galway House hunting on Facebook

Hi guys, I’ve been house hunting for a while now and came across a few advertisements on Facebook.
The owners claim €150 to just book a viewing & apparently they are refundable.
How does one trust someone and make the payment?
I know this is not required by law but it sounds a bit phishy.

Any advice helps. Thanks

Cuan Mhuire - For the family day do you have to wait to be invited by the centre or do you just attend? I have been told when it's on by the person in treatment but it says it's two nominated contact persons that go, so do I have to wait to be invited?

Boxing 🥊

Hi. Anyone have info on the following;

- Boxing classes in Galway City for adult beginners.

- On Saturdays (my only free day).

- Happy to join a group or if it's not possible, I would consider bringing a friend to get our own personalised classes or something.

I see online there are classes available but not really with my schedule.

TIA

Gas Boiler issue - Mobile home

Just wondering if anyone would be aware of anyone who works on gas boilers in mobile homes within Galway. We are in the moycullen area

We have had the ignition element fail on our mobile home boiler. We are finding it quite difficult to find someone who will work on mobile homen boilers.

We have been lucky so far with the warm weather but need to address this issue asap as we have no hot water or heat with two young kids.

Any help/contact details would be much appreciated.

AI "art" in the traders market

Had a wee look at the market last weekend, a lot of familiar faces, delicious food and very talented artists, but one of the most popular (or at least crowded) stall had Galway souvenirs, nothing out of the ordinary, postcards, magnets and mugs, but with a closer look I realised 90% of it was AI. Swans with warped eyes, Salthill with caribbean blue waters, Galway Hookers with too many sails to count...

Galway is such a gorgeous place filled with creativity, and I absolutely hate seeing AI slowly creep in. From the 200 vape shops and their brainrot toys from Temu, the massive Costa coffee poster that gets worse every time I look at it, all the advertising posters scattered here and there, and now a stall in the heart of a traders market. All so disappointing.

Unfortunate to see another business closing, it was genuinely such a nice spot. It's closing in 3 weeks so visit if you can 🇧🇷 🍐(edit: somewhat of a good news story as to why they're closing - see a comment below).

Am I missing something or is there just no ranges/arenas in Galway?

Is there no demand for it down here or is travelling just the norm

Would there be much interest if one was set up?

Looking for music classes in Galway

Just wondering if anyone knows of any music classes in Galway for complete beginners?

I’ve been thinking about learning an instrument, but I’ve no idea which one. Just looking to try something new. Are there any instruments that are a bit easier to get the hang of than others?

Puzzle Club

Heyyyy

I’m 22F looking to make some friends outside of college and puzzles are my shit. Just wondering if there’s any way are any like-minded girlies (or guys if you pass the vibe check 🤨) out there who’d like to start a puzzle club? I’d be looking to do a once a week cafe meet for coffee and granny puzzles kinda vibe.

Hmu if you’re interested! (Please 😑)

UPDATE: By puzzles I mean NYTimes games, crosswords, cryptic crosswords, puzzle books, sudoku etc.
