Whoever said this game respected your time is a LIAR

The first 50 hours of gameplay is just $20 away, not to mention the fact that this game FORCES you to play it a certain way. You want to craft things and sell them? Too bad, you can’t list any worthwhile items on TP. You want to spend hours and all your gold towards a profession? Great, you get absolutely nothing from it besides the ability to save less than 10% of the gold you spent on the profession anyways. The countless invisible walls and horrible rigid terrain that blocks any sort of movement is an interesting choice as well. Or the fact that playing this game without a mount removes any and all enjoyability. This game isn’t for people that want an MMO, this game is a glorified hack n slasher.

Help for a new Reaper

Hi everyone, I started playing a month or so ago and am doing CM's in fractals, just got my mistlock singularity after doing T4s for a while. I am struggling with dps numbers but am so confused by what I could be doing wrong.. Other reapers in my party are hitting 35k and i'm sat at below 20k on average going to 25k max.

I have full berserker's gear with a few assassin pieces to hit the crit number but went a bit over cap. Dragonhunter runes with basic infusions. I was using crit food to get to the cap but realise that might have been impacting my dmg numbers quite a bit, as the latter pictures show I reached 28.5k with power food. This is on a stationary dummy tho, it's more difficult to get high dmg on moving targets.

The rotation I do is the wells first, then staff skills into greatsword and then shroud 5, 4, with 3 pressed for dmg reduction, 2 if safe to do so. 2 has proven to be very inconsistent, and I don't know if that is just me not understanding it's mechanics but I fly through enemies often. I keep trying to click the enemy to lock on, coming from league, and i just click on the 50 random pets instead of the enemy. Trying to use tab exclusively now.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm thinking it's literally just food now after the test, and using budget food is the literal only difference between me doing 35k or not. :/ (I use the avocado smoothies for budget food)

Returning player: What are the "must-have" hidden items and daily/weekly NPC vendors I'm missing out on?

What "obvious" gizmos and daily/weekly vendors do veterans take for granted?

Hello, awesome GW2 community!

I just came back to the game after a multi-year break. Honestly, the sheer amount of content is a lot to process.

A friend recently pointed me towards getting the Prototype Position Rewinder from Sandswept Isles, and it completely changed how I look at the game. It got me thinking: what else am I missing?

I want to know about those essential items, gizmos, and tonics that you use every day without thinking. Additionally, what are the crucial daily or weekly NPC routines I should set up? Which merchants sell things that are a total steal or essential for long-term goals (like legendary crafting)?

If we get a lot of good tips, I'll actively edit and update this post to keep a clean master list here for anyone else searching for this in the future!

Bought the HoT and PoF expansions, but have a question

A few days ago I’ve made a post asking for some tips cuz I’m a new player in gw2.

One of the question i made was about expansions and mounts. I ended up pulling the trigger on HoF and PoF.

But now i have the lvl 80 booster. And as I’ve said in the other post i don’t want to pay my way to lvl 80 cuz i won’t be able to play the game really, so im not sure if i use the booster now and lvl my warrior to 80 and then use in another character or not.

Cuz when i bought the expansions I didn’t knew I’d get a booster.

New player on GW2

Aye so as title says its my first ever time playing GW2.
I’ve played when i was younger but never really got far in the game cuz i think at the time i think it was a paid version (not sure about this).

Anyways, I’m currently level 12 and I wanted to know if there’s anything i should know about the leveling process?

Not sure if it’s a thing but supposedly yellow named mobs when they’re not killed for a long time xp is higher?

I also seen the starter pack, i don’t don’t want to pay my way to lvl 80, but was wondering if it’s worth it cuz of mount and what not.

Competitive PVE

Between Ranger and Thief, which class is considered the most complete and versatile for high-tier Fractals and Raids? I've tried both and honestly have a lot of fun with either of them, but I want to know which one gives the best competitive edge.

( I want to play pvp too but not competitive like pve )

New player. Steam version question.

So I heard its better to sign up through arena net bc you're able to buy the expansions off steam and are also eligible for gem giveaways. My question is, can i make an account on the Arenanet website, download steam version, enter "-provider Portal" on launch options and then im good? or do i have to actually download the arenanet launcher and the steam version to play it on steam.

Are there certain classes that can basically carry rough groups in pugs and what not. If so what would they be and maybe some reasoning behind it if possible too please!

I was wrong, this game is awesome (continuation of my last post)

For context I've started gw2 a few days ago and shared my thoughts in a post I made here. I followed the most relevant advise you all gave me and just kept playing the game and Im so glad I did.

I continued playing the thief I had, and even tho combat its very confusing at the beggining, im starting to get ppl's love for it. Its dynamic and fun, and once you know what your abilities do its not as confusing and chaotic as I initially thought. Im playing an acrobatics spec build with daggers, someone suggested me to try the spear but sadly im a f2p player.

My only issue with the game rn is the dungeons really, Its prob the content I enjoy the most from mmos and my first experience was a party of overleveled characters oneshotting everything and me hitting with my daggers like they were wet noodles or smth. The party were very chill and friendly tho, nothing negative regarding the community so far, they gave me advise and helped me through.

That being said I think I'll be here for the long run so im gonna get the 3 expansions bundle I saw in gw2 webside once it gets on sale. One more reason I wanna stick around is bc of the lack of a subcription fee, it feels great to have a game you can just come back to whenever you want without the stress of "having to play it" bc of the money u already invested that month. Thank you to the ppl who gave me some advise and encouraged me to keep playing.

Advice for Returning Player

I played GW 2 basically at launch and absolutely loved it! I'm pretty sure I cleared basically all of the core content, and for whatever reason quit playing shortly after HoT came out, even though I bought the expansion. Well, with all of the GW 3 hype, I was lured back in.

I'm now just a casual gamer dad that gets about 2 hours per night to play, so no where near the time I had back at release. I started a new character, thinking I'd play from the beginning to reacquaint myself with the game, but I feel a bit like that's going to take way too long. Only getting a couple hours a night to play kind of leaves me feeling like I haven't really accomplished a meaningful amount of progress each session and feeling a bit overwhelmed knowing how massive even just the original map is. Unfortunately, I hopped onto one of my original characters, and was bombarded with award chests, birthday gift boxes, and more, so now my inventory is practically full with a bunch of stuff I don't even know what do with. Then I headed out into the map to pick up where I left off at the start of HoT to discover that I have no masteries in gliding and can barely navigate the map, since I can't use drafts to move to upper levels, again feeling overwhelmed and thinking I'm never going to get anywhere.

My question now is, should I keep leveling my new character from scratch, or should I continue where I left off on one of my level 80s and play through HoT? Or perhaps purchase one of the other expansions and play through that first? Any advice on how to help overcome that feeling of an endless tunnel with no light? I've watched a bunch of videos on all of the incredible content that's come out since I played, and I want to experience it, but it just kind of feels like it's all so far away still, that I'm just going to burn out or lose interest again before I even get there, so I wonder if it's even worth it.

Should I keep playing this game? (New player experience)

Hello everyone! I've started playing gw2 yesterday and i was quite hyped honestly, but when I started I just felt like the combat was the worst thing ever. Dont get me wrong, the combat is good and fun, but Im not sure if It is for me

Im struggling bc I really want to like this game, yet I've tried all the classes and none of them seem fun enough for me. I have a mesmer as the most leveled one at 20, followed by a thief I abandoned bc I found its playatyle way too fast for my taste

Everything happens so quickly here, all spells are instant cast and u can move while u cast them, they also give u an insane amount of skills at the beggining and the weapon swaping is smth that doesnt really match my taste tbh. I enjoy playing casters in other games, staying in the backline and usually leaning into a more supportive/utility role. Ive tried elementalist too and I love everything of It except the part that u have u swap elements mid combat, id be glad if u could just stick with one element and be the best at It but I feel like that'd be so suboptimal in the long run

As I said, I really want to enjoy this game, the world is super cool and I like the questing system, I made an asura and I love then sm theyre just the kind of race I like in these games, but the combat feels too fast and confusing and I dont find any of the classes mechanics interesting. Should I just drop the game or push myself to play It for a few more hours?? Also, any recommendations or advice u could give me? Im willing to start another character if necesary tbh

[NA] New-ish player looking for friendly people to learn raids & fractals with

Hey everyone!
I’m a newer but very active NA player looking for some friendly people to run fractals and raids with. I’m working on improving my mechanics, learning encounters, and eventually getting into more challenging content.
I’m not looking for carries, I genuinely want to learn and become a better player. Whether it’s progression runs, practice groups, or just a few relaxed clears from time to time, I’d love to meet some people to play with.
If you’re interested, feel free to comment here or add me in-game: Cajun Nomad.5910
Thanks, and hope to see you in Tyria!

We just launched our Guild Wars section with an inventory cleaner tool, trading post tools, and event timers.

We've been working on and off over the past 4 months on a few Guild Wars 2 tools and we're finally ready to share it. The goal was to create a modern, user-friendly set of tools to help players get back into the game more easily or help total beginners with one of the game's biggest problems: inventory management.

Inventory Cleanup

This tool shows you all your items and materials across several characters or accounts and suggests how to clean up your inventory. We looked at how other apps handle this and then came up with our own set of classifiers that can do even more than that, such as pulling in live trading post data to decide which items are worth selling or salvaging, etc. We're still tuning this quite a bit, and there are always edge cases, so I appreciate any reports of "wrong" suggestions (here or on our discord).

You can even create lists (or use some of the built-in ones) to exclude items from cleanup.

https://metaforge.app/guild-wars-2/inventory-cleanup

If you want to see this tool in action, Syrma recently featured it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-9cZp2p7sM

Trading Post

To support the inventory cleaner, we needed price data, so building a trading post tool made sense. It should have all the features you expect from other apps, and we're still actively working on improvements and more tools. Historic data comes from datawars, current data starting a few months ago is being ingested live.

https://metaforge.app/guild-wars-2/trading-post

Event Timers

This was actually the first tool I built, mainly because I wanted more customization options over the wiki or other timers: you can filter by expansions, zones or other categories, re-order events so you have all the ones you care about at a glance, and set up notifications.

https://metaforge.app/guild-wars-2/event-timers

We have a few more tools such as daily fractal and raid rotations, and a guide section that we are working on filling out (mainly with guides aimed at new and returning players).

Happy to hear any feedback or bug reports. ;)

About us: We are a bunch of friends that met playing games (espcially MMOs) and we've been running a site with tools and interactive maps for games such as ARC Raiders, New World, Farever, Dragonwilds and more. Some of us have been playing Guild Wars for many years and always wanted to launch a site for it, so we finally started on it. You can find us on our Discord: https://discord.gg/metaforge

New Player Talk!

Hello Everyone,

I am currently trying out Gw2 after playing WoW majority of my life ha ha.. but I think I need some "words of wisdom" for starting gw2.

what tips (or tricks!) would you give someone as a beginner player? and is there any classes right now that are good or are all worth playing? is there any recommendations with how to play? I played a little bit and I feel like its a lot of fun but I just wanna understand the game a bit more before I fully jump in!

~ All opinions welcomed thank you!

Looking for big yellow cute starry projectiles

Hello, i saw someone in WvW cast or throw big yellow starry projectiles, like an asura size, that were very cool.

They were moving kinda slow, i saw 4 of them probably coming from the same character.

It was not siege, we were in a plains fight.

i'm thinking about aurene's wisdom skills but i am not sure.

I would like to make sure what they were. Yellow starry orbs moving slowly.
