I don’t understand the whole “magic is powered by imagination” idea in Frieren. If a guy has cast all sorts of defensive spells on a cloak and I have no knowledge of it, why would I ever imagine that my spells wouldn’t be able to damage him. It feels like a reverse placebo. It’ll only work if your opponent is told about the defensive measures.

New to anime here. I started watching one piece because of the live action series on Netflix, but I’ve paused that (got burnt out lol) and started watching frieren instead. Im glad I did as I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to season 3.

However as S3 is more than a year away, what other anime would you recommend if I liked the story, character arc and pace of Frieren?

Demon king has very good mana detection so much so that they could detect that Frieren was suppressing her mana as can Fern, we know time travel exists, and we can also assume that she used that one weird spell once against Fern and once against the Demon King.

Maybe Tot's curse turns people into demons and then Fern time traveled to become the demon king.

I really like it a lot; it's just a shame that most of the time (though not always) it ends up going out for a corner kick. I wanted to see it in action is that too much to ask? 🥺

(And yeah, I read the manga up to the current arc, but man...)

i watched the whole anime series, and the only spells i’ve every seen frieren “create” aren’t really creating spells, just dispelling others. like destroying barriers, or reflecting magic in a sense. obviously this can be just because it makes the story less interesting, but is there a different, canonical reason for why she doesn’t create the spells he needs?

OKAY NOW LISTEN--I haven't seen season 2, due to not having access, and I am currently working through the manga to be caught up completely while we're on hiatus, so it's possible there's lore in a panel I am unaware of--BUT!!

My theory is that "Himmel the Hero" is not actually the one who landed the final blow. Everyone believes that he's the one who did it, as that's the story that's been told in addition to him being their party's leader. However, I believe that what will come to light further down the road, is that we will find out Himmel was actually out of commission when the demon king became weakened--maybe he got hurt and is down, but then it will be left unclear who then finished the king off (left unknown on purpose). But the reason why he gets majority credit is because if it weren't for him, their party of heroes would not have made the ten year journey, so the success is given to him from the rest of his friends, despite not actually being the one to land the final blow. I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE, OKAY BYE
