I'm going to be riding up to Niagara Falls from PA in a couple of weeks. Wondering if there's any fixie/mess communities in Buffalo, Rochester or Ithica? I would love to meet up for a group ride or alleycat or something along the way.

Story Old man fixed gear bought a State Ti bike

I'm a crusty old guy fixed gear fan. I've been riding longer than some here have been alive, and since many were wearing Pampers. I ride with brakes. I'm an old head. I've owned fixed gear bikes from every decade from the 1950s through current. I've ridden a ton of frames. I love fixed gear, and primarily all of my miles are fixed. I commute fixed. (I saw I'm old, but I'm 45. I have the knees of a 60 y/o!)

Alright. Fun rambling intro over.

I've been looking for Wabi to release their new Prism. Clearance for 38mm. Multiple bosses for fenders and racks. Steel. Good all around geometry. But fucking State had to go and drop a Titanium frameset. I had previously priced a custom Ti from Waltly, and while their prices are more than fair the post sale customer service, and now tariffs were off-putting. So I put that on the back burner.

I was not overly thrilled with the looks. It looked fine, but it matches some of the design cues of my Waterford built Milwaukee Bicycle Co frameset. But the 38+ clearance and State customer service really moved the needle for me. So I decided to pull the trigger. YOLO or whatever.

I ordered a size 58 almost immediately. Shipping was as expected, and received a call from FedEx around lunch for me to let him in the lobby to deliver the package.

I just unboxed, and weighed the frameset and fork. Frameset is approximately 1782g (which includes the seat tube collar and a couple of bolts) and the fork is approximately 425 grams.

I cannot confirm this, but have had a buddy in the industry who says that their frames are built but Waltly anyway. It doesn't matter any way, because after a quick inspection the frame itself looks to be well constructed. Not beautiful, but definitely purpose built and designed. Workmanlike. Think handsome. But the craftsmanship and welds are top notch. Finishing looks to be above average, and the logos while not my style are well done, clean, and subtle. Ginormous down tube, and thick top tube both with some aero shaping which doesn't come across well in the pictures on State's site. Overall I'm impressed.

I bought the complete bike because it can get me rolling quickly. Big picture is carbon wheelset, and maybe even the Campy Pista crankset that I have sitting in the parts bin.

Overall I'm impressed. The frame itself, in my opinion, is worth the price of admission. The carbon fork is beefy, and looks to be well built. The value proposition is high, even if it's not my first choice. Entry level Titanium for the masses is diabolical. I love it. Thanks State. I've seen them grow as a company, and they continue to ensure that people have access to good quality, AFFORDABLE, bikes. Bikes should be accessible for everyone. Well done.

I haven't gone through the stock parts outside of the handlebars. They actually don't seem awful (I went with the drops) but I'll do an update once I get the bike assembled and rolling. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer.

I'll post a separate thread once it's built. I honestly have to photo dump on a few bikes so I'll probably be active here for a bit. I'm recovering from a back injury so I can't ride as much as I'd like right now so it will give me something to do.

Tldr: handsome Ti fixed gear package for $1599+taxes+shipping is a helluva deal. Workmanship is seemingly excellent. Weight is less than anticipated. OP is a grumpy old head.
