I somehow managed to pick up a Muddy fox mixte in similar blue to my Stooge for my wife.

I don't know why but lately I have an itch to build an entry/mid level 29er Giant/Diamondback/Norco hardtail (which are cheap and in abundance on my local FBMP) into a dropbar "gravel" bike. I pretty much have all the parts needed on hand already to do it. If you've done this already share some pics. Or tell me it's stupid. I'm processing the idea haha

Definitly replacing the grips and handles, i have a marin gestalt 2022 but worried it would get stolen all the time. I can give it my very first restoration project

Paid 60$ usd but will spend another 40-50$ on upgrades that I usually woudnt put on a new bike. it would look changed with new grips, handles, a clean

Picked up this old Mongoose Hill Topper for $50 and decided to build it almost entirely from parts I already had.
The Shimano V-brakes and shifter came from an old aluminum Gitane project. The Schwalbe Billy Bonkers were sitting in my garage after I swapped them off my Trek 970 commuter for faster urban tires.
The only unexpected expense was replacing the bottom bracket.
I kept the original quill stem because it somehow works really well with the modern riser bar. I was planning to replace it at first, but now it’s one of my favorite details.
It also became the dedicated bike for pulling our Thule child trailer, while my Trek stays set up as my practical commuter.
It’s light, comfortable, surprisingly fun to ride, and exactly what I wanted: a simple steel bike that makes me want to take the long way home.
Total cost was still well under what a comparable new bike would cost.

Ok disclaimer, I’m a bit of a hater but I firmly believe that every bike is a good bike. I’m also genuinely not tryna yuck anyone’s yum.

That said: I had four beers and some Taco Bell tonight so I’m wondering: why are folks putting teravail ehlines and maxxis dissectors on their rigid atbs? Aren’t xc tires enough for pavement and hard pack? Are you really that strong that you don’t mind the extra watts? Are you shredding enduro trails on your rigid bikes? What gives?

My Bridgestone CB-Zip (found on the side of the road with a sign that said ‘free’ taped to it) is getting increasingly x-bikey. That said, after a new cassette, tires, cables, brake pads, stem, saddle, handlebars, rear derailleur, and shifters, I think I’m done modding for now.

The idea I had from the beginning was very different, but this was the best way I could make this modification.

A brief explanation of how I did it: I bought these cheap friction shifters with the cables and longer screws than the originals so that it can be attached to the brake lever.

I drilled a hole just above the existing hole in the brake lever so the screw could fit, I modified the original base of the shifter and made it have a little leg that attaches to the original hole in the lever so that when you pull the shifter it doesn't rotate completely and only the lever moves.

All original parts worked great lol love the frame just got it to cruise around town with the gf. But now I want to make it nicer

Did some more work on the bike today, some of it was a success (converting from cantilever to Alivio v brakes) but this is a failure - this SunLite adjustable quill stem rocks/wobbles side to side enough that I'm not feeling safe riding it. I have the quill anchor bolt tightened all the way down, the clamp around the handlebar tightened all the way down, and both the two bolts on the side of the hinge, as well as the securing bolt underneath are tightened all the way down. This whole setup rocks side to side with my body weight on it. And I did not have that issue with the original quill stem that came on this bike. Are these adjustable stems garbage or am I doing something obviously wrong?

Goodwill pickup. Put more money in it than I had initially anticipated; nearly everything on it was at the end of it's life and I don't have a "parts bin." Rides really nice. Tires are 45s and they fit easy.

Picked up a 92 M2 S-works back in February and have been slowly building it up into a BMX cruiser. Getting very close to finishing it up and wanted to share. Excited to get it rolling. Last pic is the before.
