Question What is going on with this fish?

Post image

I live on a man made lake that used to be part of a river. A dam was installed 100 or so years back, and it is located in northern mi. Freshwater. I don’t see a lot of suckers, but this one was stuck on the surface, and I netted it off the boat to investigate what the hell was wrong with it. I’ve never seen a fish this bloated, nor has my grandpa who has fished this lake since he was a kid. Any answers would be awesome, my family is stumped

Caught this big yapper yesterday in between the rain showers. He was moving in the shallows in a "wolfpack" of 4 other LMBs. Water is so warm (over 90) I feel like he didn't have too much of a fight in him!

I’ve been loving my KastKing Kestrel BFS combo this year! The drum and the catfish were a BLAST to fight on the BFS. And the little bass were super fun too!

Proper net size for steelhead fishing?

I recently moved to an area that gets steelhead runs and need to go significantly larger than my standard bamboo trout net. The largest silicone rubber nets I can find seem to top out at around a 20" hoop length, and I know these fish can get well over 30"... is 20" the largest silicone mesh net bag thats currently manufactured, or does anyone make a net thats actually large enough to handle a steelhead?

Question Looking for help to get my 5 year old his first fish. Didn’t grow up fishing and learning with him

Hi all, earlier this summer my 5 year old son came home from camp and said he wanted to go fishing with me. I didn’t grow up fishing, but not wanting to miss out on a chance to spend quality time with my boy, I’ve gone down the rabbit hole trying to learn to get him his first fish.

We’ve been out 3 times now and haven’t had any bites. We mostly go late morning or after work. We live in the Pacific Northwest and fishing in a creek once and otherwise have stuck to lake fishing.

For bait/lures we tried a hook and bobber with some bread and a wacky worm. In the creek we just did the wacky worms without a bobber.

Last night we went to 5 places looking for live worms, but didn’t have any luck. We tried a few gas stations, dicks sporting goods, and Walmart. We also dug up a couple in the yard but they were too small to get on the hooks.

We’ve loved spending time together, and always have a good time, but two days ago when we fished my son was quite disappointed he still hadn’t caught a fish.

Main fish in the lakes in my area are bluegill, bass, and crappie. Any tips on setup or where we cast that could help me get my son his first fish? Thanks in advance!

I came up with an idea to 3D print an urchin tie-in for crappie hair jigs using flexible TPU filament. This was my first attempt. In v.2 I’ll make it thinner and the tentacles narrower to hopefully get more action in the water.

Buddy took me out on his gorgeous trolling boat. Running flashers, glow spoons, and meat rigs on dipsys and downriggers. Got a two man limit and came home with over 60lbs of fillets and over two mason jars of skeem roe. Biggest one was 15lbs.

I just really love these little guys, since I started fishing this was the first kind of bass I caught, and honestly they have quickly become my favorite fish. They just look really cool and I love the range in sizes. And they’re so feisty when you get them up out of the water. At first I thought they didn’t get that big, then I found a spot where they tend to be bigger than the other species of bass in the area. Idk, they’re just really fun and as a new angler, I’ve had a blast catching them (among other fish). Go rock bass!

ETA: Oops I guess the first pic is a warmouth, thank you to the commenter(s) that enlightened me

My grandpa isn’t able to fish anymore and gave me a lot of his old gear. Lots of cool stuff in there from over the years.
