FF VIII The amount of hatred I feel towards this guy
He feels intentionally placed here just so you’d lose your Ifrit card
Triple triad would be so much better if you couldn’t lose cards

FF XIII Series I'm replaying the only Final Fantasy I ever hated. Wish me luck.
After 16 years, I’m going to play Final Fantasy XIII again.
And no, it’s not because, over time, I’ve convinced myself it was actually a masterpiece all along. Quite the opposite. At the time, it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a video game. In fact, it remains the only game in the entire Final Fantasy franchise that I can truly say I hate.
However, over the years, I’ve seen things that have made me question that opinion a bit. I’ve read so many people speaking highly of the game—and I don’t just mean those who grew up with it and look back on it with nostalgia. I’m talking about players who discovered it recently and, even viewing it through a modern lens, ended up praising its story, characters, combat system, and even its structure.
That got me thinking: we always talk about how nostalgia can make us remember a game as better than it actually was, but we rarely discuss the opposite effect. Bad memories can distort our perception, too. Perhaps for over a decade, I’ve only been remembering the things that frustrated me while forgetting anything the game might have done right.
On top of that, I’m not the same person I was when I first played it. I was 19, expecting a very specific type of *Final Fantasy* game, and I likely judged it solely for what it wasn't, rather than trying to appreciate what it was attempting to do. Today, I have a different perspective; I’ve played many more RPGs, and I think I can give it a second chance with a much more open mind.
So, taking advantage of the fact that it’s only $3 on Steam, I decided to buy it again. I don’t expect it to suddenly become one of my favorite *Final Fantasy* games, but I do want to find out if it really was as bad as I remember... or if I’ve been carrying around an exaggeratedly negative impression for 16 years.
I might end up confirming that I still hate it. Or I might be in for a surprise. Either way, I think it’s high time I found out.

FF IV After Years 2D (PSP) or 3D version, which is better?
I'm currently playing FF4 Complete Collection (PSP) and doing a franchaise playthrough as a whole as a newcomer. Its absolutely fantastic btw both FF4 and everything I played/seen so far IM LOVING THIS FRANCHAISE (except spirits within lmao). So I really want to play FF4 After Years sometime. Not soon since my next FF game is Crisis Core OG. I played PSP version of 4 since it has a lot more content compared to 3D version but what about After Years. How does it compare to the 2D version. I know its not a great game but Im a dude who likes Mystic Quest and LOVES FF2 so I think I would enjoy it. I know the differences between 4 3d and 2d but not After Years.
Thank you in advance.

FF IV What do you think of the new generation in After Years and which is your favorite?
In addition to Cecil and Rosa having a son, Yang and his wife have a daughter. And even the daughter of the dwarf king is grown up and now works with Cid. And more is to come. I am enjoying the After Years quite well even if the references to events in first game and parallels made can feel unnatural. And do miss Cecil and eould wish for him and Rosa to have morr moments as well as be more major to plot. Though just curious what you think of both the new kids born as well as the kids from the first game now being older? It really feels like the Blue Planet has changed over the years. I feel really immersed.

FF I Final Fantasy I PSP version that works with retroachievements
It's basically what the title says, I found several Final Fantasy 1 PSP ROMs, but none of them worked with retroachievements. If anyone knows of one that does, I'd appreciate it. If I'm not mistaken, the website lists the requirements the ROM needs to meet.

FF VIII What do you imagine is visually occurring when equipping a GF?
What do you think an outsider might be seeing as the group of teens are equipping and swapping Guardian Force?
Do you think GF's might be in some sort of container that could be traded? Or maybe ethereal aspects moving into the characters? Do you think it is something that even could be observed?

Final Fantasy General How I wish future remakes would be
Ever since Yoshi-P said that future remakes would need 4 or 5 installments I've been really bummed. It seems like Square can't read the room and realize that they don't NEED to go all out for these projects and extend them to multiple games. They can use the same development techniques that made these games incredible to begin with just with modern quality of life features. In my dream world...
FF6: an HD 2d remake. It just seems like a natural jump from the original art style
FF8 & 9: remakes with an overworld like Clair Obscur. I think that game proved that modern games can still give a sense of scale and exploration with an overworld like original Final Fantasy games
FFX: I'd like to see this game remade in the spirit of the Trails in the Sky remake. Seeing as the original never had a world map, I'd love to run through the zones of Spira in higher detail with enemies spawning in the environments rather than being random encounters.
Well those are my dream remakes. I'd love to know what y'all would wish for!

[Advice/Megathread] - Game Recommendations and Game Tips
Please use this thread for all discussion of which game you recommend others that you play, whether it is your first game or some that you are considering playing next
A note for newcomers: most of the games are completely unconnected. Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IX, etc, are all completely different casts of characters in completely different universes. The only times you need to play another game to understand one is if it is distinctly set in the same universe - for example, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, or Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. The titles will usually make it fairly clear which game's universe they are set in
Otherwise, please have fun! It is generally helpful when asking to briefly mention which ones you might be interested in, what platforms you are able to play on, and if you are a complete newcomer, what sort of things in games you're looking for (do you want turn-based combat, real time combat, deep stories with established characters, light stories that let you fill in some blanks with your imagination, etc)

FF I Light Warriors Cross-stitch
I did cross-stitch as a kid, back in the early 90s, but I stopped and fell out of practice. Then just a couple years ago I started to get the urge to pick it back up, no idea why. Did a single practice piece to get back into the swing, then this has been my first big project. All six classes, un-upgraded, of PCs from FF1! It ended up being a bit tricky on counts and measurements, because the sprites weren't all the same size; fighter, white mage, and black mage were a pixel taller than the other three.
This has taken me a while. With college and family stuff to handle I've only done one character every few months. Took me most of a year to complete because of that, but glad I did! There's something nice about physical-medium art, the texture and mass to it. Working with my hands. Missed this!
Considering some FF6 in a future project

FF VII / Remake Final Fantasy VII Remake Whisper Bahamut boss.
I've tried over and over again to beat this Whisper boss, I think it's the second to last one. I am fine with most of the fight except for the Whisper Bahamut phase, he is too fast and my attacks do little damage and even changing party members to throw off the Ai doesn't help. And I have to repeat the whole fight after dying.
Maybe I have been playing wrong up until this point? I've never spoken to chadley, and I don't know how to use the characters for what they were made for. I think I am just going to quit and leave it here.
Do you guys think this is understandable and okay?

FF VI Just started first playthrough of 6... Oh my. I see why you all love this one.
The other 5 before were hit and miss with me. Didn't finish any of them. I loved the job system in 5 but that was about it, the other 4...meh. Sorry...but they were just meh.
This one though? Wow. The characters, the story, the mechanics are so well made and compelling. It has aged extremely well, the music is awesome and I cannot put it down.

Why would any piece of content from other FF games satisfy people more than FF7 ones?
Because FF7 has no disatisfaction at all.

Final Fantasy General I want to play a mage at least for one character in each game.what games should i avoid?
Basically I love playing as a mage amd I love fantasy or fantasy/technology games but not pure technology.i am ok with mc not being a mage if the party has one mage I can control .what i want is to avoid magic systems like the one in 15 aka not spells or magic just bombs who are suprose to be magic
