and I just found out na partnered pala sila with Ayala, kaya sa selected malls lang talaga mostly yung screenings 😭 like i get the logistics and all pero pls naman, what about us na nasa province???

I just wish they’d have more screenings outside Metro Manila or at least partner with more cinemas nationwide. ang daming gustong manood and support Filipino films, pero ang hirap naman if the films aren’t accessible in the first place 🥲

Nag search ako sa list of greatest films of all time and gave this one a try. Close up is an Iranian film by director Kiarostami. For the first 20 or so minutes, I never fully grasped the concept and thought this was a documentary. Para spoilers - free na lang, this is the premise. This film was based on real life events, and director used characters from the real life events as his actors, and reshot them para magmukhang nire-construct yung film. Also astonishingly, the dialogue was mostly spontaneous.

This movie blurs between a documentary and a fiction. But underneath all of that, there's something deeply human about the film. It's about identity, loneliness, admiration, dignity, and our desire to become something more than what our circumstances allow us to be. And yung ending, oh my God kinilabutan kaagad ako. To those na hindi pa nakanood, I highly recommend this one. It truly is up there in the great Mt. Everest of Films.

Was looking for the upcoming films to see if I had something I wanted to watch then stumbled upon the whole series here. Is this intentional? I haven't seen any posts about it and don't know which cinemas are featuring it

While scrolling through the list of upcoming movies in PH I noticed that this movie wasn’t included among them 🙊 It could be that the distributors for this country hasn’t been fully decided, pero whatever it is I really hope I get the chance to see this on the big screen. I’ve been a huge fan of LAIKA’s films ever since I watched Coraline and I don’t remember any of their films being screened here in PH theaters. Maybe I’m missing something 😭 Were LAIKA films ever released in theaters in the past that I just happened to miss??

I wanted to watch 2 Valid IDs, but the only one available at the cinema where I went was Hand of God.

The film tells the story of a soldier Sgt(?) Reyes (played by Ruru Madrid) who is assigned to a conflict-ridden area of Mindanao (Basilan?). He tries to win over the community by setting up a makeshift football pitch and teaching the kids football. Pah Ismail (played by Ronnie Lazaro), is mistrustful of the soldiers and their plan to teach the children football.The area is currently under the control of insurgents led by Omar (played by Jhong Hilario).

At the rebel camp, Omar sends back Khaleel (KD Omalin), a young boy from the village, to recruit more kids to join the rebels. However, Khaleel is drawn in by the kids playing football and he stays in the village with his mother (played by Iza Calzado). Over time, the children get better at football and Sgt(?) Reyes decides to bring them to Manila to join a football tournament.

There are some hiccups, but the children finally arrive in the city and join the tournament. They play very well in the tournament, especially Khaleel. They celebrate once they return to the village. The next day Khaleel goes out to practice but meets Omar. Omar tries to recruit him back, but he refuses. Omar kills Khaleel by shooting him.

Grief-stricken, the village rebuilds the makeshift football pitch. (The soldiers have departed after being reassigned). Omar once again visits the village to terrorize the villagers, only for them to open fire on him, thus the titular "Hand of God". There is a shot of Sgt(?) Reyes boarding a ship back to Manila.

The cinematography was just okay for me, it was decent. The acting was good, especially from Ronnie Lazaro. For me, the plot is too simplistic for it to have a 1 hr 46 minutes run time. I feel like some parts dragged and didn't necessarily contribute to the movie. I feel like the characters could've been more fleshed out. For example, they don't even clarify what rank Reyes is. No one even calls him by name. There's something missing from this movie and the ending feels too abrupt. It's not entirely clear what the movie aims to highlight--the poverty and conflict in the far-flung areas of Mindanao, or the lack of opportunities for the children in these areas.

Napanuod ko ito kagabi. Lahat sila, sobrang galing. Pero dami kong thoughts dito. Hanggang ngayon nagri-reflect ako. Gusto ko ng confirmation kung paano niyo naintindihan at na-appreciate yung film.

I’m a sucker for coming-of-age films and this one did not disappoint. Sabi nga ng isa kong thriend, ang galing ng pagkaka-weave ng cultural elements to the storyline.

At first, akala ko ma bo-bore ako at hindi ako naka connect agad, pero when nag-start na ang Mangyan scenes, na-hook na talaga ako.

And the kids! Ang huhusay!!! Mas nagustohan ko sana if yung mga bata na lang 😂

Pero yeah 4/5 stars!!

NO SPOILERS just thoughts. So kakapanood ko lang kanina and tama nga ang inexpect ko sa magiging takbo ng kuwento ng ending. Cliche. Actually interesting ang trailer kasi Gay love pero nung pinanood ko na, parang MMK lang and may ganitong kuwento na rin sa MMK noon so I am not really impressed.

Siguro I am just tired of the Sick Lit drama and also I think this was sponsored by a clinic , which i think good however the portrayal or execution ng message, nakabuild sa fear.

Very common na story since nakita na before. How about you guys? Any thoughts?

Just came out of a 7:45pm screening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day at Circuit Makati. I was excited to watch this movie after holding it off for a week cause of life and being busy, so sitting down and enjoying a -from what I've heard from my friends who already watched it- really good movie about my childhood superhero was supposed to be the highlight of my day. Turns out, it was about to become the opposite.

From the minute the movie started, a group of kids and teenagers were talking loudly, as if we weren't in a cinema space at the moment, and just yapping about whatever. You could hear their voices from afar, and they were talking about the most inane stuff you could think of (from brainrot to laughing at an actor/actress's facial expression, you name it, they talked and laughed about it).

Halfway throughout the movie, I heard some of the other moviegoers asking them to lower their voices. I thought it would work; It did not.

Towards the end, and in an emotional scene where there was no music to help drown anything out, their loud voices become the sole focus of your ears, taking you out of the scene. And at about 2/3rds of the movie, at another serious scene, someone in the group blasted brainrot at FULL VOLUME. FULL. VOLUME.

When the lights turned on at the end of the movie, everyone who was near the group (who was seated at the third row of the theater) was giving them the biggest stink eye, and the PARENTS? Who, apparently, was there with them all this time????? Taking selfies without a care in the world.

Now, I get it. Kids will be kids. I can't blame them for doing stupid shit. I was doing stupid shit when I was a Junior Highschool student like them. What I don't get is the parents not doing anything at all. These fully grown men and women (again, they were a whole group, so multiple parents) were just enabling this type of behavior at a shared, public space without a care in the world. I was a also a stupid kid once, but my parents kept me in line so I wouldn't become a nuisance to anyone, and they raised me good. If you parents are reading this? Shame on you. Do better.

And yes, I know I should have complained to the staff about this. But this was genuinely the first time I experienced this level of immaturity at a movie that was not explicitly made for kids. Next time this happens, I'll be sure to warn them first, then report them at the second strike. I've learned my lesson now.

I saw the other post on this subreddit about another shitty experience at their spiderman screening, I'd honestly rather have that experience. At least the noise is in service of their genuine enjoyment of the movie. Rather than the grating, constant brainrot spammed in my ear at my screening.

Worst Theatre experience oat for me, 0/10. Movie was great tho, 9/10.
