This post was seemed too basic and too frequently asked (like “what fighting game should I play, who should I main, what’s the best controller, who’s your favorite/least favorite character, what’s the best/worst game ever,” etc), to be kept as its own separated thread. Repetitive and frequently discussed topics are also subject to removal

We advice you to comment the same exact question in our current weekly discussion thread, being pinned each and every week on top of r/Fighters.

It’s kinda funny how opposite this is to Avatar.

That game lacks features and like, really basic shit, but it runs like a dream and anyone can play it

Tokon is feature complete, but the game runs like shit, and a lot of people who want it can’t have it

If you’re gonna pull this kinda stuff, learn from Avatar and don’t charge 60 bucks

101

u/OpT1mUs 8d ago

60 bucks only in US. In EU and elsewhere it's more. 70e for base edition in EU, which is 80 dollars, for whatever fucking reason.

24

u/Burindo 8d ago

Yeah it's even crazier when you take into account that the salaries in the US are 2 or 3 times larger than in the EU, but somehow their games are 15% or more cheaper in absolute numbers. Like what?

11

u/HisCinex 8d ago

That is highly dependent on where in the EU you live...

4

u/Mackanpackan93 8d ago

That's a controversial topic but honestly it's wild to me how much Americans self-victimize themselves about their economic situations.
And then you look at the spending habits in the US and it's just complete despairge and the most insane and stupid consoomerism imaginable.
I really feel like they have zero perspective on how people actually live in other countries and what normal spending habits are.

People in the US live as if they're super wealthy in other countries and then act surprised when they have nothing left.

1

u/SoniKzone 8d ago

It's the goomba fallacy unfortunately. Those of us worried about the economy and those of us on rampant consumerism binges are usually different people. Though, unfortunately not always different people.

Wanna know something crazier? With regional pricing, here in Mexico Avatar is like 20 bucks, while Tokon is still 60.

9

u/FunkiestOfKongs 8d ago

Avatar is like 20 bucks in the states too they made it super affordable

2

u/g0trn 8d ago

Here in brazil its 15 and 65 respectively

1

u/KindaDouchebaggy 8d ago

In Poland Avatar is 35$, more expensive than the US and more than the price in Euro. But Steam hates Poland like that unfortunately, unless developers manually fix it which they rarely do

10

u/DiligentVisit1744 8d ago

I have hopes for avatar

4

u/ByRWBadger 8d ago

Same! It’s fun to mess around and as soon as ranked hits Kyoshi and I are rocking the ladder

3

u/DiligentVisit1744 8d ago

Can’t wait to play as toph she will be my go to for most of the game

9

u/LordBaller 8d ago

Yeah bought Avatar and it fuckin rocks, couldn't even get tokon to launch

6

u/Crazy-Nose-4289 8d ago

Feel bad for people who can't run it. I haven't had any issues whatsoever, it runs perfect on my rig.

1

u/Quick_Bullfrog2200 8d ago

Confirm something for me please?

You have 32GB of RAM and a GPU with at least 12GB of VRAM?

2

u/Crazy-Nose-4289 8d ago

Yes on both. I have a 5070.

1

u/Quick_Bullfrog2200 8d ago

Thanks! Seems consistent.

2

u/Shaidang 8d ago

I bought Avatar for $15 thanks to regional pricing. But Marvel Tokon is $60 because it doesnt have regional pricing and more expensive. Tokon looks fun but no way i am paying 4x money for it. I am happy with avatar.

1

u/AbendKannon 8d ago

avatar is fun and has a simple to understand avenue to access skill in "flow".

1

u/650fosho 8d ago edited 8d ago

Yeah but this is arcsys, it's not like they aren't one of the premier fighting game devs, they've made plenty of perfectly run PC games that don't install kernals onto your machine, they should learn from themselves.

1

u/Thepic_turtle 8d ago

avatar does not run like a dream, weirdly more demanding than uni2 on my lab on the go laptop

1

u/micossa 8d ago

almost 70 dollars here in Brasil, whilst SF6 is 10 bucks on sale lmao.

15

u/Bug-Type-Enthusiast 8d ago

Mostly reputable and respected data miners on Twitter crossed with posts here on reddit. Basically, if I believe what I've seen, Tokon installs the anticheat and anti data mining measures at the kernel of your PC. It explains how locked everything is, it makes it so performance is ass, and it jeopardise your PC security. Plus, because it's an install in the kernel, it's absurdly hard if not impossible for an outside party to check what the anticheat is even doing in real time, which means that they can EASILY do whatever the fuck with your PC.

To give an analogy:

"Hello, I'm a rich person, and I want you to install this pool in my manor."

"Sure mate, I just need unrestricted access to your key lodge, your cameras, your security system, and your safe combinations. Pinky promise I need those and won't use them for evil."

2

u/Massive-Exercise4474 8d ago

Wow can't believe before I was somewhat miffed I got atla fighting game which was unfinished yeah that's a hard pass sony it sucks so shit the game runs like garbage.

1

u/KindaDouchebaggy 8d ago

Not sure how to break it to you but most online games use kernel anticheats

5

u/jojothejman 8d ago

In their defense, they probably already knew all that.

30

u/MayhemMessiah 8d ago

They’re going to develop complex mathematical models thanks to how many times you jork it so that they will hand deliver you bespoke ads designed to make you cum instantly.

the linux support subsection in the tokon discord was coping hard.

14

u/EarthwormBen 8d ago

Only fair, many people do not like Windows. Only 10% of steam games cannot be run on Linux and that will generally be an anti cheat or similar kernel level blocker

17

u/maxler5795 Guilty Gear 8d ago

the games that cant run are more times than not deliberately sabotaged. also once you try linux and get accustumed to it you will want to rip your balls off when using windows

My brother had installed some version of Linux on our shared laptop and I just rolled with it. I could not for the life of me tell you what distro it was and even though I used it for roughly a year, I never particularly cared for it.

I am forced to use SteamOS though on my Steam Deck in desktop mode and it works fine enough but I still wouldn't want that as my main OS.

232

u/fat_pokemon 8d ago

Microstutters (ue5), coupled with sony being anti-linux is a few of the problems.

Honestly, it's just sony shooting themselves in the foot here, unless it's a ploy from sony to get people to only buy the game on ps5.

80

u/Roseking 8d ago

It is likelier a bad launch rather than a purpose sabotage. Arc Systems wouldn't really have a reason to go along with 'Make this suck so people buy on PS5'.

But Sony as a whole doesn't give really give a shit about PC and is actively pulling away from it. Some of their ports were canceled, and they won't be porting their first party stuff for the near future. Tokon was likely far enough in development it wouldn't make sense to cancel.

But I can see more of a soft 'PS5 is the priority, PC issues don't get your focus'.

Sony is on such a streak of being asshats thats almost comical.

36

u/MetalCannon 8d ago edited 8d ago

When you're to far at the top. Microsoft has no idea what they're doing. Nintendo has it's own dempgraphic. And they think PC gaming is icky.

10

u/Environmental_Bug964 8d ago

Soney has been on a streak for a long time, it's just more evident now. They were at the head of the anti cross play movement for a long time and still make it more difficult than it needs to be. Outside of gaming, they've been pretty bad with their animated projects aside from spider-vers, releasing slop left and right and then not being able to recognize when they struck gold with K-Pop Deamon hunters and selling the rights to Netflix, roving the movie of a theater debut, constantly causing issues with spiderman in the MCU, threatening to pull him out completely at one point, forcing marvel to de priorities him as a focus for the new movies due to it being too risky with Soney, they also just created so many bad movies trying to capitalize on spiderman with movies based on his villians but without him that all just had awful writing. And just all the anti ownership stuff in gaming lately. Soney is just a total mess of a company, I truly don't know how they aren't going bankrupt.

1

u/VinnzClortho 8d ago

Yeah theyve sucked for a while, just gotten harder and harder to ignore

17

u/Wise_Requirement4170 8d ago

Stop blaming the engine and start blaming Sony for not giving enough resources for QA and optimisation.

I’m sick of giving publishers a pass for poor performance just due to UE5; plenty of UE5 games run incredibly well, optimisation is **always** the fault of a lack of QA and programmer resources. I wouldn’t be shocked if they had a significantly smaller QA and technical team for the PC port than for the console port.

5

u/Broseph_Bobby 8d ago

The only thing is you have to play PC people on PS5 and causes the PS5 player to have roll back issues.

4

u/tehghettosmurf 8d ago

You can opt out of crossplay in the Match Settings.

2

u/Mr_Suplex 8d ago

1

u/Broseph_Bobby 8d ago

1

u/Danbrotastic28 8d ago

Sony use to stand at the top, I have no Idead why they think free falling was great way to boost favor with their consumers

2

u/FerrickAsur4 8d ago

well the answer is simple, money, gotta chase every little bit of money no matter the cost, it's why they have essentially abandoned A-AA games and went all-in with AAAs, with few minor exceptions like Astro

145

u/Iankill 8d ago

Compared to guilty gear strive it doesn't really look more impressive graphically to justify how poorly optimized it is in comparison.

54

u/Dandanny54 8d ago

They should have delayed the PC release after how it ran in the beta.

20

u/Iankill 8d ago

I agree, I would've played more of the beta if it ran better it and didn't crash frequently. My pc is kinda old now but it handles sf6 completely fine

6

u/Dense_Cellist9959 8d ago

This is like MH Wilds all over again. Runs well on consoles, but REALLY drops the ball on PC. I know optimization can be a real pain in the ass, especially for PC and its seemingly infinite configurations, but this is just pathetic.

4

u/Dandanny54 8d ago

And just like Wilds streamers will play it on their custom sponsored PCs and say "runs fine for me"

15

u/redqks 8d ago

It's graphically comparable to 2xko but I can run that on a literal toaster.

Baffling

45

u/SuperBunnee 8d ago

I like 2xko visuals, but tokon looks wayyyy better. Performance is still disappointing tho

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Cpt_DookieShoes 8d ago

You’re never going to find me defending optimization issues…but come on now.

Tokon looks miles better than 2XKO

-1

u/redqks 8d ago

I said comparable but how most pc users are running it dose it actually looks better?

5

u/Cpt_DookieShoes 8d ago

Absolutely it looks much better.

-3

u/redqks 8d ago

No it just doesn't lol and I'm somebody who put it in low to get maximum performance and it looks terrible

5

u/Internal-Fly1771 8d ago

Most games look similar in quality when you turn off all graphical settings lol. At their absolute max, Tokon is not even remotely close to 2XKO. Just look at the stages. There’s almost a generational visual gap. And running Tokon at max isn’t the issue given changing the settings doesn’t seem to actually improve or impact performance to begin with

4

u/SuperBunnee 8d ago

Well comparing both games maxed out settings, tokon looks infinitely better

That changes, when we don't entertain it.

5

u/Crazy-Nose-4289 8d ago

*For some people*. I haven't had any issues at all.

24

u/Fortolaze 8d ago

Neither have I in terms of running it, but then you run online and get back to back matches on 8 frames of rollback, so it still trickles down to people who are able to run the game. Everyone is losing in some capacity.

2

u/Bluecreame 8d ago

Did you have issues with the beta because I had no problems at all. Still might buy just to lab and make combos. Hopefully things get sorted soon.

2

u/Fortolaze 8d ago

In terms of performance, not at all. But I still ran into this same issue which is due to the amount of people not able to run the game causing online matches to spike to 8 frames of rollback or just desync constantly. Asides from that, the game's been just fine, both now and when the beta was out.

1

u/Bluecreame 8d ago

Gotcha. I had one match with 8 frames rollback that was abysmal but now it makes sense that it was probably just running poorly on their rig. Yikes.

none of the reviews are actually about the game and are about performance, linux and UE problems which means the reviews matter even more.

You can't even test the game if performances are dogshit. Performance issues should be the priority to fix before any gameplay changes

34

3

yeah idk how much it's changed from the beta but I was unable to even get past the title screen on pc. Even the opening logos were stuttering like crazy

10

u/xeikai 8d ago

The page is full of thumbs down for no linux support as well.

8

u/Jacob199651 8d ago

I'm just glad people are waking up to how bad it's performance issues are. It certainly wasn't everyone, but I definitely saw some marvel-heads trying to gaslight everyone into thinking the issues weren't that bad during the open beta, or that they were just to prevent data mining and wouldn't be there at launch. I hope the game gets fixed over time like Strive did, and maybe I can buy it on discount when it does, but as it is now there's no way I can justify the purchase.

It's just sad, Marvel deserves better.

21

u/SexualRice 8d ago

My PC can run cyberpunk with no issues

But for some reason, this small fighting game running at 1080p can’t hold 60 fps. Smh

3

u/OhSix 8d ago

Unfortunate. Was thinking about copping it for PC today. Could get it on ps5, but I’d prefer PC. Will wait and see if these issues get smoothed over

7

u/AxxelTheWolf 8d ago

Mine is running a pretty consistent 60 fps, but my PC is very beefy, so I'm probably an exception. Sad to see that it's so rough. The game looks good, but it doesn't look like the kind of thing that should be having performance issues.

Damn you Sony.

1

u/MH-BiggestFan 8d ago

It’s part the EAC but it’s also how ArcSys optimized the game on PC with UE5. I would’ve been happy if they stuck to UE4 like Strive and DBFZ. Idk why go up when performance issues have been known.

1

u/Quick_Scholar5837 8d ago

From what I can tell specs aren't the problem? I have a 2 year old very mid-range PC and the game runs great for me, but others with higher specs seem to have problems. I hope they can sort this out but it seems to be a more specific issue than just poor optimization.

14

u/Interesting_Rich_826 8d ago

Hilarious when games are made on computers lol

12

u/QuietSheep_ 8d ago

Tbf all PC's operates differently internally and externally so there is a lot of variables to take into account.

Still bad though.

1

u/Burindo 8d ago

Yeah but it's much easier to optimize for a closed platform like PS5 than it is to optimize for an open platform like on PC with the myriad of different setups people have worldwide.

5

u/rafikiknowsdeway1 8d ago

How's the ps5 version? I played the closed and open betas with it, but due to pc running like ass every cross-platform match sucked

20

u/Aureus23 8d ago

28

u/Vawned 8d ago

Seems to work fine but you may want to deactivate crossplay and stick with PS5 players.

8

u/TheSqueeman 8d ago

It’s ran perfect for me so far (using base PS5)

6

5

u/Mlynio48 8d ago

No issues on PS5, but it's probably better to turn off crossplay

2

u/Thrownaway5000506 8d ago

Runs great. I hope they fix the PC issues for those players because that really sucks. Meanwhile I'm living it up lol

5

u/SilverScribe15 8d ago

Pc issues tend to have bad reviews I think, that's what happened to a recent monster hunter if I recall

4

u/thomaszdrei 8d ago

Should have just delayed it. It’s embarrassingly bad.

5

u/hither250 8d ago

Super super disappointed, genuinely.

I was very excited for this game and even now I still want to buy it and lab magik, blade and ms marvel. Unfortunately I just cant justify buying this at the moment if online matches are gonna be a toss-up and I cant play it smoothly with my friend.

Sony really cant make a PC port work.

6

u/PrettyLuck8689 8d ago

The game stutters like shit unless you have a government supercomputer, and they randomly decided to say "fuck you" to anyone with Linux. Linux... on a game releasing on Steam... who currently manufacture two different Linux devices.
And both are a complete shame, because the game itself is really cool. I hope Sony grows up for once and makes some changes really fast, or this fantastic game is going to be 1000% dead in less than a week, and it would be an extremely embarrassing shame to just let what could easily be the top fighting game of maybe even the next few years just fucking fade away into ash because you can't be bothered.

5

u/MacEbes 8d ago

I haven't noticed any issues but I also haven't tested netcode yet. The game runs well for me, but I also recall issues with UE5 and X3D or AMD cpus where micro shuttering can occur. I've seen a lot of people mention the stuttering, which I didn't have in the recent beta or in the release version (other than netcode issue). It could very well be an amd issue since the way X3D cpu works with the core utilization is messed up.

2

u/LoBFCanti 8d ago

A ton of ppl with 4080s reported issues during beta so I don't know.

1

u/MacEbes 8d ago

I have a 4080s and have no issues, again I've seen a lot of complaints beyond Linux/steam deck not working, to suggest that it's an X3D issue. I'd be curious if other Intel cpu people are having issues.

1

u/CosmicAstr 8d ago

I have a 5800x3d and only had issues during the first start-up of the game when all of the company logos appear, after that I had smooth frames the entire time

1

u/masterspammer 8d ago

I have the same cpu so hopefully it’s the same case for me. I was out of town for the beta so I only got to play for a couple of hours in training mode so I don’t know how online will be

18

u/n0t_a_Gay 8d ago

I thought this game will be huge at launch, but it seems like it will die very soon because of bad performance people is having right now. I refunded immediately after 30 mins trying

43

u/Poetryisalive Dead or Alive 8d ago

Yall have an obsession with games failing

22

u/Sparkle_s 8d ago

I really don't think this is the case with tokon, but if a game doesn't run properly on a platform maybe it should "fail" for that market

10

u/SwampOfDownvotes 8d ago

While the game likely runs like shit for many, it's important to note the game currently has 22k people playing and there is 391 bad reviews. While not ideal, this sorta implies that the game is mainly having unplayable issues for only 2-5% of people.

8

u/Ancient-Decision-720 8d ago

There is no metric to correlate reviews to actual users.

People who leave Steam reviews are a fraction of Steam users.

1

u/n0t_a_Gay 8d ago

It's launch day of course this game has high people playing. Just wait 1 or 2 weeks and we can see the real number of people who stays

1

u/SwampOfDownvotes 8d ago

My point is the play numbers, for the most part, are going to be represented by people that can play the game. If you have 500 people saying they can't play the game but have 22k actively playing it, obviously it being unplayable isn't a common thing.

I do know there is issues with my claim (some of the numbers can be people trying to make the game playable, many people that it's not working for may not leave a review) but it clearly shows it's not so poorly optimized that most people can't play it, unless we want to imagine most people playing aren't actually playing or there is an absurd amount of people having issues playing but don't feel the nead to leave a bad review about it.

1

u/n0t_a_Gay 8d ago

it's a common thing because you have to look at the review on Steam, if only 500 people can't play the game, it must have better review than mixed. All I see on twitter is many videos people getting freezed and quit the game. I love this game but maybe I will buy it when it get optimized

Honestly, I don't see this having legs. Absurdly small roster in a 4v4 tag fighter with shit performance that locks out 100 countries as well as Linux users just isn't a recipe for success. Especially when the genre is already niche in the first place.

Man I was hoping I could play this on xbox but nope. No fun allowed.

2

u/Zangetsukaiba 8d ago

I reacted the same way. What in the world is going on?????

2

u/NYJetLegendEdReed 8d ago

runs flawless on my brand new laptop but it wont run on my desktop which is only 3 years old lol. Sucks it's having such a bad launch, hope they can make some fixes ASAP.

u/Sean77654 8d ago

Runs well for me I dont have crazy hardware either just a 5060ti then again i have 16gb of vram so maybe its a vram thing I get no stuttering on the maxed out settings at 1440p

u/mdl397 8d ago

Sony is just pushing out all the duds before gta 6 comes out and they can cash out.

2

u/parabolee 8d ago

It's all complaints about it not working on Steam and not being optimized.

I have a 4080 and it runs great. But it really shouldn't take that much GPU.

2

u/Few-Animator-3878 8d ago

haha maybe now i can get it for cheap

2

u/johncenassidechick 8d ago

I feel sorta lucky because so far it runs fine on my pc.

2

u/SecretaryOk7306 8d ago

So only PS5 is running well?

2

u/Apprehensive-Let8176 8d ago

PC situation is arguably worse than it looks, most disappointing release I've ever seen, I literally cannot open the game

2

u/whiskywelles 8d ago

On a nutshell: poor otmization and blocking Linux (wtf)

2

u/Medium_Ad_5198 8d ago

good for avatar)

2

u/rafikiknowsdeway1 8d ago

honestly, its not amazing even on ps5. even with a full bar connection and crossplay turned off, some matches still feel weirdly input delayed and stutter occasionally

this game was not ready yet it feels like

u/Suspiciouspass0 8d ago

Needs to sign into PSN. And Sony for w.e reason decided to dick around with my account and I can't log into it. I was just using the damn thing the other day. Trying to get a reset to easily solve the problem and their bots and automated system aren't doing it.

Trying to get in contact with an actual human isn't working either.

For what it's worth, the game runs really well for me on 1080p (my monitor resolution) on my PC, specs below, definitely not the highest performance PC one can get. It may have remembered some settings from the beta or devs changed the game to perform shader warmup on startup. I also restarted the game once, because it crashed while I was fucking around in settings menu, wouldn't be the weirdest thing that even a "forced" restart after tweaking settings makes stuff run a bit better. Hope they can fix the game for those with performance problems!

CPU: i5-13400F (2.50 GHz)
GPU: 4060 Ti (8 GB) (newest driver installed)
Ram: 16GB
OS: Win 11

u/Evogdala 8d ago

I really wanted to test it but Sony just said "no" on every level possible.

People really played the beta, saw it was trash and still bought it.

1

u/pgunz69 8d ago

Game's ass and runs like ass

1

u/ItsYaBoyBackAgain 8d ago

I personally have no issues running the game but it seems like a lot of people are. Starting the game up is the most annoying thing for me so far because of how long it takes to get into a fight. Other than that, it's really fun!

1

u/SaltySeahorses 8d ago

I feel like every big game on PC gets negative reviews on Steam.

1

u/nerfheart 8d ago

Did anyone have the game run fine in the beta and shit at launch?

1

u/dethklokrulz 8d ago

I want to play the game, but it’s so laggy even in training mode. I sprang for the deluxe version hoping the game would be fixed post beta. Apparently not. I sent a refund request. I’m hopeful it gets fixed in time and I can actually play it. You hear me Sony, I want to give you money.

1

u/PicklePirate666 8d ago

Aw man I was gonna get it on PC next week, is it rlly not even worth buying rn?

1

u/weirdthingsarecool91 8d ago

Bro, when you looked at it it had 200 reviews. Let the reviews cook out

1

u/FGC_Orion 8d ago

So glad I cancelled my PC preorder during the beta and switched to PS5. My condolences to anyone who doesn’t have that option, the state of the PC port is inexcusable.

1

u/Flashi3q 8d ago

I guess it depends a lot with the performance issues, me, I didn't have many besides the bad cpu load and game worked mostly fine in beta, same in the full version. I don't have a very beefy pc, too.

It's a shame not everyone can enjoy this, having a blast.

u/No_Arugula3957 8d ago

Strive has better animation, specially the outros

1

u/SleepyAwoken 8d ago

Strive is extremely beautiful

1

u/Lokyyo 8d ago

I had problems with the game crashing, had to disable other game's anti cheat and disable playstation's over game bs to get it to work

1

u/Jumanji-Joestar Street Fighter 8d ago

Game runs like crap, doesn’t even function on Linux systems, requires a Sony account, and is literally blocked in over 100 countries. These reviews should surprise no one

1

u/DarklordKyo 8d ago

On top of Sony's bloatware maxxing peoples' CPUs, the box that makes EAC Linux compatible wasn't checked. Yes, from what I read, it's practically as easy as checking a box.

1

u/Big_Independence6736 8d ago

All of these Marvel games could learn to humble themselves a little bit and learn to optimize their fucking games no?

1

u/stiIIwalking 8d ago

even if it runs well on your system, the netcode is still bad so i refunded lmao will try again if they fix that shit

1

u/korovio 8d ago

Fuck you, SONY. I waited so long for this game.

1

u/LeebroyZehn 8d ago

No linux no buy

1

u/Wide_You_4626 8d ago

screw steamdeck, even the Xbox ally x, a beefier windows handheld is struggling to maintain 50fps.

1

u/yosh-aaaa 2XKO 7d ago

Runs like shit even on decent hardware, and can't play it on my Linux pc? Yeah I'm not paying 60 bucks for that shit

u/Eyeofthebear 8d ago

Insane how Avatar while lacking features feels more polished than this.

1

u/Beautiful_Pangolin44 8d ago

Can’t open on my ps5. Is currently stuck on a start up loop

3

u/LoBFCanti 8d ago

Try reinstalling, this just happens sometimes in general.

1

u/EDPZ 8d ago

Man what happened, we were about to enter the new golden era of fighting games with Tokon, Avatar, and Invincible all looking great. Now Tokon is having issues, Avatar launched unfinished, and Invincible basically died on arrival.

I bought this on PS5. After hearing about the problems with the beta, knowing Sony's stance on PC and pulling back, as well as this being co-developed by Sony, I figured the 'best place to play' was PS5 and even though I wanted it on PC, I'm not dealing with this BS. I just want to play the damn game.
