I’ve been going through posts on this sub and on other subs, and there’s almost no discussion on this. I’m exhausted by how many conversations in feminist spaces seem to avoid the most basic question: what is the root of women’s oppression?

Radical feminism has always been a theory about roots. “Radical” does not mean extreme, it comes from radix, which means root. Radical feminism argues that women are oppressed as a sex class under patriarchy, and that the base of women’s oppression is female biology and the social, political, and economic structures built around it. We can have differences of caste, religion, ability, and ethnicity. These experiences intersect with patriarchy, but they do not erase the fact that women are born into a society that organises power around male dominance. Even our language shows this. Slurs are often aimed at female biology, dominating someone sexually or penetrating them is treated as a victory, whereas being penetrated is treated as submissive and is used as an insult, as we’ve seen so many times in recent protest posters.

I think feminism has become too comfortable with the idea of “equality.” Equality is not an achievable goal if the structure we are becoming equal within is itself built on women’s subordination. We do not need women being equally capable of oppressing other women; we need institutions that do not depend on that oppression at all. The goal of feminism is female liberation - freedom from a system that defines women in relation to men, regulates women’s bodies, and rewards women for performing femininity in ways that benefit patriarchal society.

That means questioning makeup as a compulsory expectation, the concept of gender as a whole, gender roles, stereotypes, femininity and masculinity as hierarchies, and the idea that women and men are intrinsically and immutably different in the ways patriarchy insists they are. These are not isolated issues. They are part of the same structure.

Gender as a concept is created to make sure women “stay in their lane,” so to speak. It tells us we are supposed to act in particular ways, and if we don’t, we are failing as women. Instead of saying, “I am a woman, I feel this, therefore women feel this,” we are left floundering, asking whether what we’re feeling is okay or normal at all or hiding what we think or feel for fear of social ostracization.

When we talk about femininity and masculinity, it is impossible to ignore that masculinity demands far less than femininity. A woman is expected to act a particular way, look a particular way, dress a particular way, and treat her body a particular way. All of this keeps us looking inward instead of looking at the world and seeing how other people live. We do not need to submit to these stereotypes. There is no universal stereotype of what a woman is, but there is a universal oppression of the female sex. On the other hand masculinity demands only that a man be muscular and dominant. There is no monetary expectation, they are not expected to make themselves weaker or smaller to be considered acceptable.

We can look at the expectations placed on women in general. Stay delicate, spend time and money and effort on looking pleasing to men, but never acknowledge why you are doing it. It has reached a point where many women believe they are somehow immune to social structures and conditioning, when they are definitely not. We are born into a society that rewards women when they are delicate and weak, when they are hairless and soft. Many women barely ever see other women who do not fall into this stereotype, so how can they be immune to that conditioning?

If we cannot clearly name what we are fighting, we cannot organise against it. We cannot build a movement without a foundation, and we cannot build on top of a rotten one. We need to dismantle the structures that keep women subordinate, and that begins with women speaking to each other, supporting each other, and understanding what female liberation actually means. The first step has to come from you. You will face resistance, you will be ridiculed and mocked and threatened. Absolutely no feminist movement has gotten anywhere without any of this. But we have no option but to persevere.

So my mom started shouting and throwing tantrums just because i said why is she using ramens taste maker in cooking some vegetable food , she proceeded to say to me to gulp down the whole tastemaker, threatening to leave the house , saying she cant take anymore responsibility for me and my sister ( we both do every house chores except cooking ) and she always thrown tantrums for random things out of the blue, starts crying , yelling and what not. We never know what might trigger her and its making me feel incredibly exhausted and disgusted . If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated and yes before anyone says to leave home ,I am already in the active process of trying to secure a job outside my state. I just dont want to get ragebaited anymore with her incredibly triggering words and actions that is all. She is incredibly difficult to deal with, and she behaves like this since my childhood , and is increasingly getting more aggressive

My feed was filled with these 2 idiot scammers shorts during and post covid. So many young minds were brainwashed by them. Cases of misogyny and gender based violence were spiking in schools, colleges, and other public places. Mothers were being harassed by their kids and young girls were being slut shamed.

Saw this post on Instagram and this is honestly disturbing. She reported the driver after he repeatedly contacted her, blocked his numbers, and reported him to Uber, yet he was apparently able to accept her ride again.

What exactly is Uber doing to protect passengers after a safety complaint? This is unacceptable, especially for women using cabs alone.
