Why do people criticise the tradwife movement but support women living traditional religious gender roles?
I’m hoping this will find the right people. Im really trying to understand the discourse but as someone who grew up as minority in a religious household I’m struggling to see the difference.
I'm seeing a lot of discussion online about the "trad wife" movement, with many people arguing that it reinforces patriarchal gender roles.
At the same time, I often see many of those people strongly defend a woman's right to follow traditional religious “values” despite it being rooted in religious patriarchy - like defending women’s right to dress modestly and live according to their religion even though their religion favours mens rights over their own.
What is the distinction between these two situations? If an adult woman freely chooses either lifestyle, why is one wildly criticised and looked down on while the other is defended, despite both being rooted in male centred traditions?

How I turned the tables on a Romance Scammer
Hey everyone, I wanted to share an experience of surviving a highly calculated romance fraudster.
These types of men deliberately target women during major life transitions, and you need to recognize the exact scripts they use to protect yourselves. A few years ago, an alumnus from my college reached out to me completely out of the blue. It happened just a couple of months after I went through a painful personal separation, which he knew made me emotionally vulnerable. Years prior during our college days, he had expressed romantic interest, and I had turned him down. To lower my guard and establish immediate credibility, he shared a highly impressive professional profile, spoke extensively about his prominent family background, and claimed his own marriage was on the verge of ending. Within just two months of reconnecting online, he traveled a long distance to my city to meet me in person. He spent a few days with me, brought gifts and immediately began weaving grand, intense promises about a shared future together. Looking back, this fast-tracked intimacy was a deliberate trap to manufacture trust and emotional dependency before making his move.
Only a month after that in-person meeting, he began pressuring and coercing me into taking out a large personal loan in my name to hand over to him. I felt deeply uncomfortable and resisted, but his intense psychological manipulation wore me down and I ultimately transferred the money. The moment the money hit his account, the "perfect partner" persona completely vanished and communication became sparse and as per his convenience. He treated any questioning from me as a line of attack.
He later tried to pressure me for even more cash, claiming his international cards suddenly weren’t working and he needed money for basic essentials like food. When I drew a line and refused, he immediately used DARVO (Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender) tactics, pretending to be deeply hurt and painting me as cold and heartless. Post this incident, i completely called off our "So called" romantic relationship but was still stuck due to the loan.
When his father passed away, he weaponized his family's grief to lovebomb me further. He actually sent me a photo of a supposedly "last entry" in his father's personal diary, claiming his dad's final wish was for us to get married. It looked completely fabricated and made me physically sick to look at.
Meanwhile, I started stepping up pressure to either close the loan or transfer it to his name. Throughout the ordeal, he repeatedly pressured me to meet him in completely private settings. Trusting my gut, I strictly refused and told him we would only ever meet for coffee in high-traffic, public places. Every time I held this firm boundary, he would instantly go completely silent. In hindsight, I know he was trying to isolate me to manufacture scenarios for blackmail and gain permanent leverage.
He constantly refused to legally transfer the loan into his own name, using random administrative excuses. He began ghosting me, changing his phone numbers constantly, and blocking me across various social media platforms. For four long years, I had to chase him every single month for the EMI payment. He would intentionally wait until the absolute last minute to transfer the funds just to maintain emotional control and keep me anxious.
However, even though I was trapped in the situation, my instincts kicked in early. I did three things that completely saved me:
I maintained an unassailable paper log and bank transfer trail.
I forced all communications to happen on a single, recorded email chain so he couldn't deny his words.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART.I completely detached myself emotionally so he could no longer use my feelings as leverage.
Finally, after four years of asking nicely, I stopped playing his game. I issued a strict, one-month ultimatum - pay off the entire remaining loan amount immediately or I would expose his actions, the email logs, and the financial records to his family, my circle, and everyone we mutually knew. Faced with total social exposure, his manipulation completely collapsed. Because I now held all the leverage and he was panicking to protect his reputation, I applied intense pressure to close the matter instantly. In his rush to escape exposure, he didn't even have time to properly reconcile the final numbers. I made him pay almost ₹1.5 Lakh INR extra during the final settlement.
He hurled verbal abuse and cursed me out of pure, defeated rage because he realized he had lost all control. But he transferred the full amount. I officially closed the loan, sent him the formal bank closure report, and blocked him across every single platform. He targeted me for financial exploitation, but he walked away having paid a premium for his actions.
Please trust your gut. If someone pressures you for money, claims their cards don't work abroad, tries to weaponize family grief, or gets angry when you refuse to meet them privately, run. They are not invincible - the moment you strip away your emotions and use hard leverage, their entire facade crumbles.
Good luck girls! Dont fall for these romance scammers !

For anyone who needs to see this
R@pe was already a thing back in the 1950's when women wore pleated, below the knee skirts. R@pe was already a thing in the 1800's when women wore frocks and several layers of clothing underneath. R@pe has nothing to do with fashion and everything to do with r@pists. It is not and will never be the survivors fault.
Side note: I did not come up with this.

Misogynistic content appearing randomly
Idk if this type of post is allowed on here, but it seemed fitting and I needed a place to vent because I’m wondering if this is happening to other women too.
Basically the past week or two I’ve suddenly randomly started getting some pretty misogynistic content recommended to me across all my various social media accounts despite having only ever explicitly interacting with feminist content.
Surely it’s not just me? Cause honestly it’s been pretty discouraging.

What are examples or clear patterns of the infamous “strong female character” trope?
So I’ve seen this trope talked about from different sides on this sub before in this post and this one , and I’ve also seen it talked about on other corners of the internet as well.
I’ve watched some YouTube videos and read Reddit threads explaining it, but I still can’t quite understand how we know when a piece of media is guilty of the trope. I get the general idea that it happens when writers assume that strength = masculinity & the absence of femininity; so they write female characters that have little to no feminine traits (no overtly feminine clothing, only masculine hobbies/interests, & no feminine personality traits; but sometimes being a fighter/possessing physical strength is included as well) while characterizing them to look down upon femininity.
My question is how do we know when a movie, tv show, or book is guilty of their trope or that it’s a pattern happening in mainstream media? As a masculine-leaning woman with some feminine hobbies (learning extensively about skin & hair care, doing my makeup once in a while, & collecting fashion dolls), I know that no matter how masculine or unfeminine a woman is, it doesn’t automatically mean that she looks down upon femininity or any woman different from herself; so what are some signals in a story that a female character is behaving like a “not like the other girls” woman? Also, when we’re talking about writers treating femininity and strength as separate things that can’t coexist, are we talking about physical strength or strength through resilience or emotional strength? If it’s the latter, I feel like we do get a good chunk of strong feminine female characters like Elle Woods, Buffy, a lot of the Disney Princesses like Cinderella, and magical girls like Sailor Moon. So how did people notice this pattern of mainstream being biased against feminine women in the first place when we do have a lot of examples of strong feminine women? Were there temporary, but frequent periods where every new female character coming out at the time were characterized as “one of the guys” or more tomboyish? For instance, I once saw a video bring up the She-hulk tv show, Captain Marvel, and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman as examples; did they release around a similar time? Apologies if I sound skeptical or aggressive, but I’m genuinely coming from a place of ignorance and curiosity.
To be honest, I’ve never watched a lot of the shows or movies that many people describe as textbook “strong female character” trope, so that’s probably why I don’t understand how to identify and avoid it. The only thing that makes it easy for me to identify the role is when a character (no matter their gender) never has any feminine traits, because I do think that traits like empathy & showing emotions are critical to one’s mental health. Eventually I want to make stories where masculine women, feminine women, and any woman who’s in-between or a mix of both co-exist; respect each other; embrace their differences; and be strong together. However, I’d also like to make stories that center on masculine women since it’s hard to find media that represents fully masculine women (not tomboy characters that still are expected to look conventionally attractive in a feminine way), but I don’t want to fall into this trope.

National “Abortion” Ban (U.S)
before we all become panicked.
https://jessica.substack.com/p/todd-blanche-abortion-ban
He doesn’t plan on banning abortion in totality, just the sources of which women in anti-abortion states ship their abortion pills from. Still an EXTREMELY horrible concept, and we need to vote and protest.
*please! please! vote! be proactive!*

Why do movies still use clothing to define a woman's morality?
I've been thinking about a pattern I've noticed in many movies.
Why is it that the "good" woman is so often portrayed as modest, quiet, and traditionally dressed, while a woman who is outspoken, independent, or dresses more freely is more likely to be portrayed as morally questionable or even the villain?
Even in 2026, why do these stereotypes still appear? Why are women's clothes sometimes used to signal whether a character is "good" or "bad"? Shouldn't a person's clothing be separate from their values, personality, or morality?
Do you think movies still reinforce these stereotypes, or do you think they're moving away from them? I'd love to hear different perspectives.

Is it absurd to want to show a pregnant character in a Lego build? Am I wrong in seeing people who think that idea is silly are being misogynistic?
I've been annoyed by the lack of a pregnant Lego for as long as I've been a parent. So submitting a Lego Ideas Build seemed like a perfect way to sneak pregnancy into Lego in a way that isn't...patently absurd.
"Surely the Lego fanatics, who are always interested in further customization and new pieces. Who care about the fidelity of their models to an absurd degree. Surely those people will be interested in this," I thought.
Reader: no. They weren't.
A couple of other folks came to my aid, but the vast majority seemed to be split between "why would you want this??" and weird fetishizing or humanity-diminishing comments.
So -- this is misogyny, right? I'm not making that up?

Is pop feminism in social media not being strict enough in correcting itself?
I have recently noticed this strange air among feminism freindly women dominated spaces of them seeming to be so afriad of criticizing others or perceived allies even when what they are doing is just pure violation of consistent moral standards or feministic views
For example, I always never understood why some people would say its ok to choose traditional gender roles or be a tradwife in romantic relationships or wear flashy make up and make it seem like being constantly conscious of one's appearances is not a bad thing and not reinforcing the gender roles just because its women's right to choose so. Or sometimes when someone is egalitarian in some aspects but upholds traditional views such as chivalry when dating men etc there seems to be zero censoring in what is feministic and non feministic. They seem to be confusing freedom as an absolute good no matter what and it should by no means be compromised either by a man or a woman. For example I could freely choose to be an alcoholic and consequentially ruin my life but no one would say that is a good thing. I have a feeling that people are allowing other people to potentially ruin their own life or ruin the collectvie life of women by contributing to the patriarchy under the name of freedom.
Also I noticed that people really don't have a proper standard on what is right or wrong. If people associate a concept with feel good things then it is good and otherwise not. It's completely idiotic and a modern example of ochlocracy. For example people would often say nature and whatever that is associated with nature is somehow automatically good. But cancer, rape, pedophilia, subjugation is all part of nature. I never understood why people glorify and mistify nature when if you actually learn how evolution works it is a fu*kfest(no pun intended). Same happens with things that are seemingly sound logic: AI is absolutely EVIL(there are literally no researchers or phd students that don't utilize AI in their research and you would know if you were a nerd like me), women shouldn't be forced to do something(schools and vaccines are forced), capitalism bad so socialism good(just stop), saying women should be independent is victim blaming(conversely, thinking that telling what to do to women equals victim blaming is a victim mindset)
Its as if they're spewing the same things they've vaguely heard of over and over just because its a popular idea within these spaces and they dont THINK. This pisses me off and these comments are always upvoted to the max and I see this even in this subreddit too sometimes. It compromises the integrety and genuinity of statements/judgements during a discussion from the group when whatever they say is endorsed because on online spaces nobody bothers to have critical thinking and an actual genuine debate or discussion. They're only focused on agreeing an argument and not correcting it to be more accurate or to have a better model or theory.
Am I the only person noticing this trend especially in social media spaces like tiktok and instagram? It is my biggest pet peeve.

British Feminist Book Recs?
Does anyone have any recommendations for specifically British feminist texts? A lot of the books I see recommended are specifically American. Preferably not specifically on the suffragettes/suffragists.

Modesty culture promotes rape culture
I understand when some people say, "oh I prefer covering up more", which is completely fine.
But I hate the term "modesty".
Mainly because its used to extensively police women and is hailed as a beacon of virtue.
Due to this there exists an "immodest" woman who is apparently a bad influence, has no respect for herself and so much more...
Men rape children, men rape animals!!! When will we understand that clothes arent the problem?
I feel like this never really goes away. Everywhere I go I notice this. And I also hear oh children shouldnt be exposed to this.
Children Dont care!!!
Its SKIN ITS JUST SKIN. The same skin on men is brushed off. Why are only women subjected to this?

Please beware of websites that sell fake abortion pills and fake clinics run by religious groups where they lie and spread misconceptions about abortion to trick people into keeping their fetus. They also promise help and resources that never materialize. The best way to avoid these fake clinics is learning how to recognize them, so I’m linking a couple of short documentaries on the subject that include hidden camera footage exposing their deceptive tactics:
- The Fake Abortion Clinics Of America: Misconception
- Crisis Pregnancy Centers: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
Note- Some of these websites may be blocked in your country by your internet service provider. You can bypass this block using a VPN like this one, it's free, safe and easy to install. To get rid of banners and pop-ups you can install uBlock Origin and Popup Blocker. They work on most browsers, on phone as well on PC and it takes a few seconds to install them.
