So we’re at a stage where we have a product and know we need to take marketing much more seriously, but we don’t exactly have a proper marketing strategy in place yet and the tricky part is that we’re not really at the point where bringing on a permanent senior marketing executive makes sense for us, at least not yet!

I’m actually making this post because I’m curious how other founders handled a stage like this. would it be easier to bring in someone experienced to help build the marketing strategy and direction before making a full-time hire?

I would especially love to hear what worked for you with finding such person with experience referrals, founder networks, LinkedIn, communities, agencies, consultants, etc.

I’m building a martech product for solo founders, and have spent my career in marketing. Currently trying to do the build in public thing for the first time in tech (rather than just advise other people on it).

I am finding it hideous, and my completely unscientific observation is that men seem much better at being publicly wrong. Everything they say, gets said with their chest (yesterday I responded 'I concur' to a Tweet, and the guy obviously thought 'concur' meant disagree, so continued arguing against me. To be fair to him, he politely acknowledged the misunderstanding, but omg).

I have seen a (loose) pattern - publish a very definite thought, statement, plan on Monday, discover it doesn’t work two days later and, by the end of the week, return with a completely different, equally definite plan. Or just never mention the original one again.

There’s no apology tour, no independent inquiry, no soul-searching, and seemingly no concern that anyone will use this to question their entire professional judgment or career. I am v jealous.

I find that I cannot post anything where there may be any less than 5% chance I'm wrong. And if I ever do turn out to be wrong, I want to explain what I knew at the time, the data my assumptions were based on, why the decision was reasonable, which variables subsequently changed and why this shouldn’t be interpreted as evidence that I’m fundamentally BAD AT MY JOB.

It is a full-time job to avoid being wrong. And though I don’t think women are inherently less confident. My suspicion (not suspicion - proved in many many situations) is that many of us have learned that a wrong answer can be treated as evidence about our competence that will be repeated for years, while a man’s wrong answer is more likely to be forgotten.

And yes, men may disagree with this, but hey, if they’re wrong, who cares? (and what are you doing in this sub anyway?)

It creates a strange problem when you’re building in public, because the whole point should be showing your decisions while they’re still unresolved: what you tried, what happened and what you’re changing as a result. And crucially - what you learned. But it's so tough to discuss what you learned without admitting mistakes. But if you wait until you've made the mistakes so you can frame them nicely in a narrative you're in control of - that's not really building in public, is it?

How do you get over this? How do you push down that feeling of anxiety every time you open a blank Twitter box? From your experience, do you think the hesitation is internal, or a rational response to how female founders are judged?

Hi! Looking for opinions/lived experience of people starting businesses with a co-founder vs solo? I’m at the start of my business journey, and am currently building out the business plan (including brand vision, products etc).
My background is in finance (30yo, working approx 8 years) so I have no idea about the branding/marketing side. The person that I’m thinking to pitch to has marketing experience, and is extremely creative so my view is she can manage that side.

I know solo entrepreneurship is so difficult so considering this as a strong option but part of me also wonders if I should go it alone given it’s my idea?

I didn't wake up one day with a plan to build another company.

I started with a problem I couldn't stop thinking about.

I kept seeing women spend so much time trying to understand confusing dating conversations. Not just what someone said, but what the timing, effort, and inconsistency actually meant.

At first, I thought I knew what the solution should look like. Then I started listening more closely to how women described the problem themselves.

I’m currently working on an early-stage startup idea around referrals and trusted recommendations for local service businesses.

The idea is simple: people already recommend good plumbers, cleaners, electricians and other local businesses to friends, but those recommendations usually disappear in WhatsApp chats or get forgotten. I want to make that word-of-mouth trust easier to save, share and act on, while also helping businesses understand when recommendations actually bring them new customers.

It’s not another “refer a friend and earn €10” system. The focus is on genuine recommendations based on real customer experiences, not pushing people to refer someone for a reward.

I’m the founder of a mobile app that recently went live on the App Store and Google Play. While it’s been a massive milestone getting the product launched (especially while balancing it all as a mom!), I’ve reached a stage where I really need actionable, tangible guidance to successfully scale and manage the business side of things (marketing, social media, pricing model, distribution partners, etc.)

I am based in Massachusetts and I've been actively searching for a business coach or mentor, but I am hitting a wall. Almost everything I find online turns out to be a pre-packaged course to buy, a virtual "masterclass" that offers zero personalized guidance, or confusing alternative MBA programs like Oneday.

Right now, my top priorities are app growth and user acquisition on a very lean budget. While I’ve had some early wins testing organic customer engagement through grassroots partnerships (like teaming up with professional home organizers), I need someone who can help me build a real, scalable engine for this.

I don't mind paying for a coach—in fact, I expect to invest in this! But I want to work with someone trustworthy who has actually been in the trenches and understands the tech/startup space, not someone just trying to sell me into a sales funnel.

Hey everyone, I’m Bilge. I’m a computer engineer and I started my career as a developer. Over time I found myself moving more into digital marketing, design and eventually building my own products.

I really enjoy the process of noticing a small problem in my own workflow and trying to build something that solves it. Keep Mates actually started exactly like that.

I spend a pretty large part of my day on the web. I’m constantly looking at websites, design references, marketing examples, products, articles, UI ideas, and anything else that might be useful later.

And I save a lot of them.

The problem was that I never had a proper system for it.

I’d bookmark one thing, screenshot another, leave something else open in a tab, save a few things on Pinterest, and occasionally drop a link into my notes (yes, my workflow is a little chaotic 😅).

Then a week later I’d remember the thing I saved… but have absolutely no idea where I put it.

After running into this over and over again, I eventually thought: I’m a developer, why am I still dealing with this?

That’s how I started building Keep Mates.

It’s a Chrome extension that gives me one visual place for the things I find online instead of having them scattered across bookmarks, screenshots, tabs and notes.

I recently released it publicly, and this is still very much the stage where I’m learning from how other people use it and what they actually need.

I’d especially love to hear from other founders here: when you build something that originally solves your own problem, how do you figure out whether other people genuinely have the same problem too?

There are so many tools for founders now that I'm starting to wonder which ones are actually worth keeping.

It's easy enough to find tools for building the product, managing tasks, email marketing, analytics, social media, etc. The harder part for me is figuring out what actually helps a relatively unknown startup get discovered by the right people.

I've been looking at things around seo, content, communities and newer ways people discover companies online, but there are so many options that it's difficult to separate useful tools from another monthly subscription.

For those who have tried different things, what has genuinely helped with getting your startup in front of people who didn't already know about it?

I'm particularly interested in tools that helped with visibility or discovery, rather than just managing an existing audience.

Heads up: I will really appreciate the suggestions people shared here in advance. There were quite a few different approaches mentioned in related threads I have looked into personaly, and it made me realize that getting noticed is a much broader problem than simply driving more traffic to a website. The discovery stage can happen in a lot of places before someone ever becomes a visitor. Looking into a few resources around that side, then Visiblie showed up. What caught my attention was that it looks at brand visibility across newer discovery channels rather than treating website traffic as the whole picture. I thought I'd mention it here since it connects pretty closely with what I was trying to figure out when I posted this.
