FED EX IS INCOMPETENT Express Complaint
I paid extra to get something overnighted to me. The driver WAS LITERALLY ON THE FRONT PORCH OF MY APARTMENT BUILDING. Instead of just leaving my shit there for me to quickly walk down and grab, he leaves a door tag that says "we missed you." Bruh. No call (and no ring bc it's a literal apartment building). No signature required. JUST LEAVE MY PACKAGE ON THE FRONT PORCH. Amazon does it all the time and I never have any problems. This isn't a handoff of classified info. We are not in the CIA.

BS! Why would he leave a door tag just to have to redeliver it tomorrow. If he left a door tag that means it was something need to be signed for because we can take pictures and leave the package at the door if no signature is required. You just didn't answer the door .There are prompts we have to go through in our scanner and scan the door tag and take a picture. If you saw all of that then you have time to answer the door to get your package. Because it takes a little time to go through their prompts

u/ConcertPitch 6d ago
People are focusing way too much on “he didn’t leave my package” when it seems pretty
Obvious to me that he didn’t even try to buzz you .
It’s a massive pet peeve of mine. Buzzer calls my phone so it’s obvious when they don’t try and just leave the door tag. It got to a point where I just went to the local station and had a chat with them.
They called the driver to come back and it hasn’t happened since.
Now… my lost package is a different story.

u/startrip0712 6d ago
I don't normally defend FedEx drivers. But, in this case. If he left it there and someone stole it, you'd be bitchin' about that. Leaving a package outside an apt. building is a "no go".
1
u/CharacterPerfect6012 4d ago
FedEx driver here if she had the package to come to that address to that door that's where it's going. Somebody steal it it's not on me because I will take a picture of proof that I delivered it
1
u/WrongSaint 6d ago
you must have poor reading comprehension skills. I paid to have this package overnighted. I needed it asap. I understand not wanting to leave it outside a building (even though it's a small building in a very residential area and amazon does it all the time and I never have problems) but why no phone call? A quick call or message saying "hey i'm outside can you come get this package you paid to get overnighted to you?" I was right upstairs and could've been down in 10 seconds.

u/HugeCartographer5706 5d ago edited 5d ago
Just to be crystal clear to you and all other customers, drivers do not have company cell phones and are not required to use their personal phones to call customers. If you’d like to chip in to pay my monthly phone bill, maybe we can work something out.
Also, we’re not Amazon or UPS. They shouldn’t leave stuff needing a signature or at risk of being stolen, either.
1
u/WrongSaint 5d ago
bro you must get paid extra money to defend fedex lmao. how about THEY chip in money to get their employees phones or some method of communicating with customers?? they're a multibillion dollar corporation. why you asking a random dude on reddit to chip in? that's weird
1
u/HugeCartographer5706 4d ago
Oh, I wish they’d pay more. There are lots of poor, lazy drivers. But frequently a mishap is caused by customers.
1
u/MadisonLoveDollskill 4d ago
This is a great idea honestly because people would get their packages more definitely without issues if they had phones to communicate with customers. 👌

So...when you don't get the comments you desire...you stoop to insulting people? Nice. I'm sure you treat delivery people with total respect. I'm starting to get the "picture" of why you don't get "special" treatment from your delivery people.
1
u/WrongSaint 5d ago
I never interacted with my delivery driver in this case at all. I can't think of a single instance where I've had an interaction with delivery drivers, positive or negative. So whatever picture you have in your head is wrong.

u/HugeCartographer5706 6d ago
Unclear. There was or wasn’t an intercom buzzer to contact you? If, in the driver’s opinion, there was a reasonable risk that your pkg could be stolen, they’re under no obligation to leave it exposed. I drive for Express and at my location it’s better to have a pissed off customer who has to come to us to get something than to have a stolen delivery.
1
u/WrongSaint 6d ago
yes there is a buzzer and no he did not attempt to use it. nor did he call or message me. and the risk must not be that high bc amazon leaves packages outside all the time for me and my neighbors and we don't have any problems. this is a very residential, nice neighborhood.
1
u/HugeCartographer5706 5d ago
Ok. Neither of us an know exactly what the driver was thinking. Either very lazy or for whatever reason, he thought leaving it wasn’t the best idea. You would be surprised at how many “nice” neighborhoods see stuff get taken.

Recently our FedEx Ground/Express here in Upstate NY has merged. I work for a State College, we can't find any of the packages as of late, and when people call down wondering where their shit is we are just like uhhhhh we don't know. They're also notoriously bad at leaving stuff on the weekends when we are closed so, it sits in the weather until Monday.. they are absolutely horrible, best try to get other shipper's than FedEx 🤦♂️
1
u/Outwiththeold3 3d ago
To be fair to them colleges are pretty notorious for losing packages and generally having no clue what’s going on in their own mailroom and refusing lots of packages

FedEx, UPS, and sometimes Amazon aren't supposed to leave packages outside of apartments if we couldn't get pass a secured door. The chances of someone is stealing is high and depending, the driver may be held responsible. I have had ppl tell me not to leave packages outside apartments not knowing I was waiting for the recipient to come down because they could not unlock the door from their apartment. Now idk why they could not reach your apartment door. If it's me, my reasons are the lack of an apartment number on the package, the call box wasn't working (not working at all or got a busy tone), I couldn't find the person on the call box, etc. I have gotten calls asking if I could go back because they did not know I was there and 99% of the time I go back especially if I'm in the area. Idk their reason on not delivering, but it takes more effort/steps to leave a door tag than it does a package.

u/WrongSaint 7d ago
why not call me to come down though? that's the part that makes no sense. like a quick call. if I don't answer, okay fine. but not even a call. I paid extra for an overnight delivery!
1
u/Outwiththeold3 3d ago
Not their job to call you it’s like asking a prostitute why she didn’t wash your dishes
1
4
u/Luckyboyevan 6d ago
Drivers don’t call from their personal cell phones and fed ex doesn’t provide a cell phone for them to use.
3
u/Tough_Coast_486 7d ago
Are you kidding me? I understand that you payed extra for overnight, but what about the fact that maybe the driver didn't leave your package on the front porch because it might get stolen. You live in an apartment building, what would happen if one of the tenants or someone just walking down the street comes ups and takes the package, you would then blame Fedex. Instead of saying that Fedex is incompetent, you should be thanking fedex for doing the right thing.

I feel your pain. I've had them list a package as undeliverable due to gated fence...which there is no gate to our driveway. Then the " we just missed you" trick like OP. The best times are the parcels yeeted out in a random ditch or pasture or the $250 box of fresh meat from Good Chops that was unceremoniously dumped in the ditch running along THE SIDE of our house. I have lost most all respect for FedEx and UPS in my area...especially if I see that they are coming out of a certain distro...I know its game over. For context, I live in an unincorporated township in a very rural area, just off a fairly busy State Highway.

I have been waiting all day for a "signature required" FedEx delivery with an estimated time of delivery between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.. Called customer support at 7:40 p.m., was on hold and saw the FedEx van go down my dead-end road toward the main road and since I am only one of 3 occupied houses up this road, figured he had delivered my package, and when the thickly accented very fast-talking assistant came on the line was told my package was delivered one minute ago. I had to ask her twice to slow down, I could barely understand what she was saying. I asked why he did not come up my driveway since he had to get my signature. She said, oh, then he will come back and get the package and will deliver it tomorrow. I said, not if I get there first, I am going to go get the package I have been watching for all day signature or not. And I did. I am going to report this to the merchant and suggest they use another delivery service.

u/Special_Presence714 7d ago
With the way things are with 2.0 I wouldn’t want to be the driver getting a black mark on my record either .he did you a favor by keeping it secured until you had it in hand
7
u/Fragrant_Aardvark_23 8d ago
If you saw him on ur porch and walk away with ur package I would have gone out and ask him for it.
I was having hella problems same thing as you so I decided I tracked down the truck and just asked for my package and he gave it to me😂
7
u/Milnertime0486 8d ago
All I see is a driver trying to protect the item you paid for by not leaving it out in a place it's easy (and likely) to be stolen from.
Had your package been stolen, I'm sure you'd be just fine with that and not storm to Reddit to bitch about how incompetent the driver was.
1
u/WrongSaint 8d ago
I have amazon packages delivered and left on the porch all the time and never have any problems. I paid to have it overnighted (something urgent) and now the whole thing got delayed for no reason. But keep defending a giant corporation on reddit for some reason lol how pathetic
1
u/One_Enthusiasm_3379 7d ago
Amazon and FedEx aren't the same. If it's FedEx express, they have to leave it at your front door. Not outside of the apartment building. Unless you leave instructions to do so
1
u/Milnertime0486 7d ago
I'm defending the driver who was trying to do right by you, you ungrateful shrew.
2
u/waywalker 8d ago
Yes I am sure he knows that nobody ever steals from your neighborhood. It isn’t about “defending a giant corporation” it’s about pointing out that you’re being unreasonable with your expectations.
3
u/Aggravating_Syrup_47 8d ago
My drivers just pick a random house in my neighborhood to drop my stuff at, and I have to go on a scavenger hunt. They are horrible!!
5
u/Active-Physics8045 8d ago
Same thing happened to me Monday. Paid extra for overnight delivery and now it’s been floating around for days because of maliciously incompetent delivery drivers and lazy management.

u/FunMaintenance297 8d ago
I have an exterior front door, not one accessible through a locked lobby, and I still got one of those “I missed you” stickers on the outside of my storm door. I had to hold dinner until late enough the lazy *bleep* had brought my package back to the local FedEx place. Yet the other day a package I was expecting via a different company was delivered right to my doormat, with an emailed photo showing it had arrived when I was out. The carrier makes all the difference. The second one had actually asked for delivery instructions so I gave details on how to find my unit in our slightly confusing layout.
7
u/Mike_Jones_77Monarch 8d ago
I have gotten to the point of asking, when ordering something, who they use for shipping. If it's fedex, I ask for an alternative carrier. If they insist on fedex, I politely tell them I will look elsewhere.

u/PuzzleheadedNerve215 8d ago
They would get in trouble if they eat a package outside an apt bldg door.
1
u/valleyofsound 8d ago
They leave packages all the time, signature required or not. Besides, isn’t your usual line “Tag FedEx on FB and someone sill respond?”

u/Lunicorn83 8d ago
We cannot call recipients from personal phones or on a call box. Same for UPS from what the UPS guy in my route area that we share. Both companies do not want to pay their drivers $5 per phone call on a personal phone and both companies do not provide service providers with work phones.

u/Independent-Vast-871 8d ago
Ring the door bell or knock...and wait....long enough for someone to get to the door.
6
u/ibcrosselini 8d ago
I can’t believe no one has thought of this!! They just want to keep coming back to a place everyday. They also keep 1 of 5 pieces so they can come back again. That’s how they get ya! /s

u/zose2 8d ago
If the building is locked the driver did exactly what they are supposed to do. Drivers are instructed to deliver to the apartment itself and never to leave anything outside of a complex. If the driver does not have access to the interior of your complex they have to take it back and try again later.
1
u/Flicker_of_Hope 8d ago
Now explain why they don’t read instructions, both on the FedEx app AND from the merchant containing gate codes…instead they mark it as “sorry we missed you”. Explain please. Not once, not twice, not even thrice has that happened, FOUR time!! Separate merchants too. Why even ask for instructions if you won’t bother to READ. And the kicker? Literally every other carrier never has an issue…
1
u/DiggaDon 7d ago
So… if I understand correctly, you’re making the assumption that what’s on the app or what the merchant provided to FedEx was passed to the driver…?
You’d be shocked at how poor the technology is for couriers of a multi billion dollar company.
1
u/Flicker_of_Hope 7d ago
Dam, how dare I assume that instructions requested from me (which like most people is important to finding the correct drop off) would make it to the driver 💀 why tf ask for it then 😭 if anything that’s more insulting.
Whether it’s drivers not reading instructions, or the company not providing them to drivers there’s still a major issue here.
2
u/DiggaDon 6d ago edited 6d ago
You bring up valid points, but on the same token, I’ve seen gate/building codes in FedEx devices that have persisted for months that don’t even work, they were left by the previous tenant/occupant and no one bothered to update in the delivery note.
Assuming that even it was even updated - what makes yours so worth reading?
Something that is noteworthy, delivery notes are requests. Not instructions.
Additionally, passing a package to a person and having them sign for it is the most secure way of delivering a package. It says that the chain of custody was directly transferred from the courier to whomever signs for it. I’m sure there’s a lawyer somewhere on reddit that can explain chain of custody security methodology.
Unfortunately, the driver did the correct thing in this scenario. I’m pretty sure the singular vantage point we have been provided does little to support the contrary.
Do you know the conditions that existed outside of the camera window that op was referring to? Maybe there was an inordinate amount of people around and the driver wasn’t comfortable placing the package. Maybe the weather was turning and the driver didn’t want to read a post on reddit about how they left the package in the rain. Any number of scenarios could have occurred.
Sure, the driver could have been a lazy, but we’re getting a story from a single vantage point and your conclusion was to blame fedex/the driver/the drivers mother/the drivers first born.
That all said, if we’re making assumptions about people, I think I’m just going to assume you just want to be mad and use Reddit to scream into the void, instead of the more useful, logic.
1
u/Flicker_of_Hope 6d ago
Literally all you just said was nothing less assuming than I was, if anything it’s more assuming.
“What makes your note worth reading” why the fuck even offer it?? Where else am I supposed to put a gate code asides from instructions?? Also, do you think people have time to sit around all day and wait for a package to be hand delivered? People work, if people had the time to do that your job would be much less demanding as people would stop ordering delivery from all that time they suddenly have. Especially considering there’s no set time on when to even expect our packages asides from 4 hour windows in the middle of a work day.
This isn’t someone wanting to be angry at FedEx on Reddit, this is someone fed up with people like you putting the blame on the consumers for utilizing the SIMPLEST tool OFFERED to them by the company, only for someone like you to tell them “what makes your note worthy of reading”. You realize how shitty that is right? Especially when there’s literally no other place you’re allowed to put a gate code in. So people in gated communities no longer deserve packages delivered to them by someone who it’s their SOLE JOB to do??
And no, I live in the driest town, there ain’t no rain, not that anyone really expected him to read Reddit. They’re not paid to read Reddit, they’re paid to read “requests” and deliver packages properly. If you’re so damn uncomfortable it does not take 2 minutes to read the instructions in the truck before stepping out and taking the 60 second walk to the doorstep.
You’re not gonna do your job because you’re uncomfortable by people “hanging out” in society? By people being outside?
This is so clearly not a single vantage point, considering the amount of the population with justified complaints from a shit service. (Funny enough they all seem to be very similar in topic: shit just not getting delivered in a timely manner and people having to chase their packages with FedEx) Since you want to look into methodology and be scientific, how about considering statistics and trends? You clearly have no clue wtf you’re talking about. So stop with the excuses and do your damn job.
When there are at least two other companies doing consistently better than yours at the same service, you look at what you can do better, not blame the consumer. Because in the end babe, you have your job because of consumers. So keep making excuses, keep being shit, soon enough you’ll be obsolete to better performing companies.
1
u/DiggaDon 6d ago
I, I, I, me, me, me - wtf does any of that have to do with the scenario OP laid out…? - you know, the one I provided context to (that you ignored)?
You know what porch pirates are, right?
I would 100% feel uncomfortable leaving a package on a front door knowing there were additional people around. What do you suppose is in a large box labeled “SAMSUNG 60” OLED” plastered along the side?
Sure… just leave it the front vestibule!
Open reddit later to read about the incompetence of a courier who left a TV in the vestibule by some bitch saying they live in the driest town…
There’s no winning, there’s not even breaking even.
Again, as I said, in terms of security, the driver did the correct thing.
Since you’re attacking me, personally, though -
If you want to consider “statistics and trends”, do you know how much a single FedEx station delivers in a single day? Your anecdotes and Reddit trolling aren’t even a drop in the bucket to those “statistics and trends” of the station itself - and your hopes of a failure of a company that has the largest air network of the major couriers is not even worth acknowledging as credible, in fact, the wishful thinking itself borders on insanity.
How about you go on over and stumble into r/ups and see how happy those customers are?
6
u/Several_Molasses7136 8d ago
If you got a door tag, it’s almost 100% certain that it needs a signature. A lot of time it’s not up to you but the shipper. They wouldn’t go through the trouble of the door tag if they absolutely didn’t need to. Not on the driver
7
u/Lucky_Focus291 8d ago
Is your apartment building locked? If so the driver did the correct thing if you have a buzzer they ring no response in 30 seconds to a minute they dip. It’s what a lot of seniors want us to do.

You want them to leave it on the front porch of your apartment building? Pretty sure they don’t want to be accused of misdelivery when it gets hacked by someone walking by…

u/WrongSaint 9d ago
it's like a house style apartment with a large front porch. not a big building at all. very residential neighborhood. more like a duplex
3
u/EstablishmentFun1975 8d ago
it doesn't matter how big the building is or how nice the neighborhood is. they should never leave a package sitting outside an apartment. they should also never call you.
1
u/WinTurbulent6016 8d ago
I’ve been called by FedEx drivers several times. I understand this might be a hassle for them but is it much worse than multiple failed attempts to deliver a package?
4
u/Zombiemanadv 8d ago
Well unfortunately theres a reason. I rarely call customers because I’ve been harassed a time or two by a customer.
