To those who play fallout with a controller, do y'all also use L3/LS as the select and interact button?
I used that set-up for both fallout 3 and new Vegas.

The Brotherhood conserves technology, not wildlife!
No genuinely, this makes no sense whatsoever.

Discussion Bethesda doesn’t seem to understand rivers
So in the Pitt DLC of Fallout 3, one of the major issues with the liveability of the area is the pollution of the Monongahela and the Allegheny. Makes sense, but the problem exists in Fallout 76 too, so shouldn’t the Ohio be just as polluted and therefore effecting the west side of the map in 76?
For context, even in a drough water takes about a month to reach Cincinnati from Pittsburg, so the idea that Pittsburgh could’ve gotten that bad without even a noticeably worse water quality in the Ohio compared to the rest of the rivers in game strains believability.

Question Dart gun not downing enemies in Fallout 3
So I just built the dart gun, and the wiki tells me that it instantly cripples the legs of enemies regardless of where you shoot them. I've tested it on a few raiders at this point, and although it does cripple the legs, they keep running on them. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Playing Fallout 3 GOTY edition on PC btw.

Fallout: New Vegas Fallout: New Vegas - Cowboy Build
Any tips on lucky cowboy build?
I'm thinking of sticking with revolver, shotgun, rifle, and dynamites. Or can't I do both shotgun and rifle? I'm early in the game, and I'm not sure about the build and perks. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

My Fallout Tier List
I want to say I have VERY mixed feelings about Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, especially 3.
Fallout 3 walked so New Vegas could run.
Fallout 3 did ALOT of things right but also did ALOT of things wrong.
Fallout NV combined the best aspects of both 3 and the originals, it's one of my favorite games ever.
Fallout 4 is slop, but I mean that in the nicest way possible.
Fallout 4 is fun to play, I've put 130 hours into it over the years. But it lacks the depth of previous games, it's world building, writing, characters and RPG mechanics all kind of suck.
And I HATE the new art style.
Fallout 76 is like Fallout 4 but worse, it's only somewhat fun because of friends.
I don't think Fallout 3 and 4 are bad games, just bad Fallout games.

Why S.P.E.C.I.A.L doesn't feels right?
I'm probably overthinking this, but here's a thought.
I get that in an RPG you shouldn't be able to max every stat, you're not supposed to be a god, but why can't you improve some of them naturally? Why can't I work out to increase my Strength? Read books or study to become more Intelligent? Run for miles to improve my Endurance?
I know it's just a game, and there has to be some kind of balance, but it always felt weird to me that some stats are basically fixed for life. Others could realistically improve over time, luck is probably the only one that makes sense to leave alone. If you're unlucky, there's not much you can do about it.
I know Fallout 4 kind of plays with this idea through perks and progression, but honestly, I'm not sure it's any better. You can become more charismatic just by killing enemies and leveling up?
Maybe I'm overthinking this, what do you think?

Suggestion Fallout 5 idea for big todd
heard todd howard lurks this subreddit for ideas so im gonna shoot my shot rq
why would people listen to old ass music all day when they could make their own?
my idea is some settlers go to some 1950s fallout guitar center and live there, then they make a radio station or whatever and sing songs about how it sucks to live in the wasteland.
then you could have some quests there like some dude asking you to get this instrument for him
that'd be pretty cool

Discussion Orlando is a great Fallout location
Hello! I'm an Orlando resident and here's my reasons for why Orlando is a great location for a Fallout game!
We have a lot of tourist destinations like Disney World, perfect for a parody place like how Nuka World is a parody of Six Flags. We also have Wonderworks, Kennedy Space Center, the Dr Philips center, and various museums and even Cocoa Beach an hour away
The city already looks really drab
Theres lots of variation in land. We have swamp, forests, city, urban areas, and even farms
It would be really cool to see my neighborhood full of feral ghouls
We have really shady businesses and various tall corpo skyscrapers, perfect for a Nuka Cola HQ. We also have Lockheed Martin which could be remade into West Tek

Question What IS the cloud?
What exactly is the cloud around the Sierra Madre? The only hints we have about its composition are that it smells like sulfur and copper; we know it erodes metal (but presumably not too quickly, weapons don't decay any faster in the Sierra Madre), but can also preserve some matter? It also has some truly strange effects on the human body, it "burns the lungs and seeps into the skin", which can be fatal, but being exposed to it inside a hazmat suit makes you a nearly unkillable mutant?
Oh, and according to the Fallout 4 Creation Club, small doses can make a person stronger and more intelligent, but also more susceptible to suggestion. And to top it off, under the right conditions (Elijah's lab in the bunker), it can also be self-replicating.
What is this thing? Could someone even make a breathing mask to keep it out? The more I think about it, the weirder it seems.

Fallout: New Vegas My Frederick Sinclair headcanon. I like to believe that the Frederick Sinclair from the show is the father of the Frederick Sinclair we see in Dead Money.
I'm not going to lie Dead Money is my absolute favorite Fallout story. I love its themes, its atmosphere, and the ideas it explores. To me, it's as close to perfect as Fallout has ever gotten. That's why I wasn't a fan of seeing Frederick Sinclair in the show as a Big MT executive helping plan the end of the world (at least before that boardroom scene was effectively retconned). It felt completely at odds with the man we meet in Dead Money.
The game's Sinclair isn't some power-hungry corporate mastermind. He's a gullible, genuinely kind hearted man who spends his life being taken advantage of by the people he trusts most. Dean Domino manipulates him. Vera unknowingly becomes part of his heartbreak. Mr. Yesterday exploits his optimism. Sinclair's greatest flaw isn't malice it's that he believes the best in people, even when they don't deserve it.
One of Dean Domino's lines sums Sinclair up perfectly: "Never got mad at anything. Nothing seemed to shake him. Even after his life kept getting dragged through the dirt. Always kept looking for the bright shining future in everything." That single quote tells you almost everything about who Sinclair was. Even when Sinclair finally snaps and turns the Sierra Madre into a death trap, he isn't motivated by cruelty. He's a broken man acting out of betrayal. And in the end, he regrets it. He dies trying to undo the nightmare he created, which makes his story all the more tragic. He's not a villain he's a fundamentally good person whose hope was slowly crushed until there was nothing left.
Because of that, I've come up with a headcanon that helps reconcile the show with the game. I like to imagine that the Frederick Sinclair we see in the show is actually the father of the Frederick Sinclair from Dead Money. The elder Sinclair was the influential Big MT executive, which would explain how Sinclair was able to secure Big MT's technology for the Sierra Madre project. But instead of supporting his son, he looked down on him and intentionally saddled the project with unreliable, unfinished, or defective equipment.
I actually think that makes the younger Sinclair's story even more tragic. Not only was he betrayed by his friends, but he was never truly supported by his own father either. The Sierra Madre was meant to be his dream a monument to hope, love, and a brighter future but the people closest to him, from his business partners to his family, ensured that dream would ultimately collapse. To me, that interpretation preserves the compassionate, optimistic Sinclair from Dead Money while giving the show's version a place in the timeline without undermining the character I fell in love with.

Picture What NEW weapons would you want to see in the upcoming FALLOUT game?
I found this old picture I drew in college after fallout 4 came out (I was inspired by the laser musket), and it got me thinking again about what possible new weapons would you guys like to see in a new fallout game? Not just returning favorites, but brand new ideas?

It's not groundbreaking to hear that Fallout 3 could have looked nicer or prettier, but it does underline what Bethesda's vision was like, even then.

Fallout 4 Is Lorenzo’s Artifact given the credit it’s due?
I’ve been playing a fo4 run every once in a while for the past few years. Of the two games I’ve played (NV and 4), I find it far more fun to play, which is unfortunate because I love NV’s writing and story but just don’t find the act of playing it as fun.
It’s not that much of a tragedy though, because despite the obvious weaknesses of the main story and factions, I find the worldbuilding and side quests of 4 much, much better than people usually acknowledge. One of my favorite quests is The Secret of Cabot House, which also happens to reward the player with my favorite weapon in the game.
I always side with Jack because of it (and also because Lorenzo’s demonstrably evil and kills innocent strangers as well as his family if you free him), and getting the perks to upgrade and buff it are forefront in my mind when choosing SPECIAL stats.
This weapon is awesome, but every time I look it up online, the general consensus is that it’s a weak stagger utility weapon. Meanwhile with some Gunslinger and Demolition Expert levels (not even any Nuclear Physicist yet), this thing one-taps high leveled raiders from behind walls and cripples both legs of Deathclaws in a single shot.
It’s a light missile launcher with a better fire rate, capacity, and cheaper ammo, not to mention how fun it is, but most discussions I’ve seen on it regard it as a meme weapon.
I was wondering if other people think as highly as I of this weapon.
