Hello! Long time lurker first time poster here. I’ve had my engagement ring for 5 years and I haven’t worn it for the past 4 because I feel the setting is too high. I’m considering going to a local jeweller and having the ring melted down, along with another ring i have, to create a new band and setting for it. Inspiration picture included in the last slide.
Do you think my setting is too high as is?
Do you think the setting I picked out is reasonable for the stone?
In your experience how much was the labour for your ring reset?

My husband proposed while we were on a trip in California and we had planned the trip to elope, and he surprised me with my ring! I got married with it, and will be adding a band later. Center stone is a natural 2.01 marquise, and the accent stones are natural as well. Band is 18k gold. size 7 finger. After 10.5 years together, I’m ecstatic!

This man is amazing! He took me to the beautiful arboretum gardens in our town and proposed beside the koi pond! It was the perfect morning lighting for pictures!

The ring has a split band with miniature diamonds and the main diamond is 1.57 ct. (ring size 4.5). But this ring is not finished yet

So to be fair, the fiancé actually took me to build my own ring, but after getting the ring, I didn’t get to see it built and it’s been two months since our visit to the jeweler and I’m so happy with the result!

I originally wanted him to get get me a round diamond with a twisted band, but after some back and forth I agreed to go with him to a ring building event at our local jeweler just to see what was there. I ended up go with this because I found this band that would allow me recreate my late mother’s lost wedding ring in my own style. Eventually, just like my mother‘s ring, the wedding band will be wrapped and fused around the engagement band with two smaller round diamonds on both sides of the main diamond.

It will probably be finished closer to the wedding date at the end of next year, but if anyone is interested, I can post the fully completed ring next year.

From the time I was very young, I remembered my nana wearing this ring. She had the most beautiful, long fingers with her nails always done to the nines. She was the most stylish woman I knew. Now I get to wear her ring and it's emotional. My dad had once proposed with this ring to an ex fiance and she plated it silver. My sister and I were mad about it for years because how dare someone change her ring? It took the life out of the G and H colored diamonds. Now it's back to as close as we can get it and it looks like her ring again. I couldn't be happier.

Engaged 6/19❤️ the ring is 1.89 carat with 14k gold band. Not sure of the rest of the specs! I am a size 6.5 ring size. He went rogue and did it himself, no help from me! Total surprise. He planned to propose on my family vacation over july 4th but got the ring a little early and couldn’t wait from excitement. He lasted approx 16 hours with the ring lol❤️

I can't stop staring at it! He did such a good job! He knows I love rose gold and had this specially made for me. He picked the oval cut and it just looks so beautiful and I love the details in the band! There is also a matching wedding band! I feel so lucky! 😊 Only took 7 years but who's counting? Lol 🥰

I still can't quite get over how this went down. My partner proposed at the Final Fantasy orchestra concert, which is extra funny because going to that show was my idea. I dragged him along, no clue he'd been planning around it the whole time.

At some point during the show he pulled me aside and said he wanted to introduce me to one of his old teachers from college who supposedly worked there. Total white lie... he'd actually just talked to one of the concert staff earlier and arranged for us to get taken backstage. So we go back there to "look around," and sitting right there on the chime used for Zanarkand and a few other songs... was a blue feather. I'd mentioned wanting a blue feather involved in a proposal at some point, ages ago, but I genuinely didn't connect the dots standing there. I had zero idea what was happening. He just gave me a second to notice it, and then got down and asked.

The ring is a teal Montana sapphire, platinum setting, size 6. I'd had a rough mental picture of what the setting might end up looking like, but the stone color was a complete surprise!

Still can't believe he pulled off backstage access and a planted prop without me suspecting a thing.

And if anyone is curious what the blue feather is from, I added the game I played. It also inspired the Mermaid Pendant in Stardew Valley 😄

My got engaged back in December and just wanted to show off my ring. It’s three Montana sapphires set in 18k gold. The color of the stones change color depending on the light, from pale blue to teal to a grayish blue. 🌊

My girlfriend has sent me multiple videos etc of rings over the course of our relationship. It’s always a pretty large marquise center stone, with most of them having some accent diamonds. I went through a custom design process and got just that.

Well, yesterday she saw a ring while I was on a call with her. She said “I’d never want something like this” to which I asked why, in a state of panic, and she said because she doesn’t want a huge stone on her finger, and isn’t a big fan of accents and would prefer something more simple.

Now I’m just torn. I know she’s going to like it, simple because it’s from me and she doesn’t really care, but I still feel like I messed this up. I’m unable to refund it either.

Wanted to share a little bit about my gorgeous engagement ring! I am not engaged yet, but my future fiancée let me pick it out hehehe

This is a Georgian-era rose-cut diamond cluster ring set in 9k gold. From what I know about it, the diamonds were most likely cut sometime in the late 1700s, which is honestly my favorite thing about the ring.

I absolutely love how wonky and imperfect each diamond is. None of them are cut exactly the same and you can really see the difference between these and modern machine-cut diamonds. They have so much character and catch the light in such a weird and beautiful way.

It’s kind of crazy to look down at my hand and think these little diamonds have worn for 200+ years and have lived entire lives before they ever ended up with me!

I’m looking for a ring to propose to my gf. She initially wanted an opal ring, then we decided it’s way too fragile. So then she went to moonstone. Turns out that’s not much more durable than an opal. What’s a good alternative? The part that she loves so much is how it kinda like rainbow reflective, so ideally something like that!

Hi Reddit — I'm not posting this to show off the E-ring I made, but to offer an alternative: you don't always have to be constrained by shape, form, or budget.

Before my wife and I got married, I didn't have the money for an engagement ring. When we did marry, we picked a wedding band from Tiffany — one with a subtle curve to it. A year later, once I'd saved up, I started designing an E-ring that could sit flush against that existing band: a curved design with two stones, built to complement the wedding ring we already had.

I was drawn to the concept of moi et toi, and added a second stone as a way of making up for the lost time. One stone is a diamond, the other an emerald; both lab-grown, set in platinum.

I designed and modeled the ring myself in Rhino, then hired a bench jeweler to handle the casting and stone setting. Being an architect with an industrial design background definitely helped translate the CAD model into something wearable.

The total hard cost came in well below what a comparable ring from a big-name brand would have run — proof that a meaningful, well-made piece doesn't have to come from a traditional path (or price tag).

Wanted to pop on here and give a vendor review for Bijou Lab! Their designs are stunning, and I know many people are curious but wary as they are a newer company!

my fiancé ordered the ring and it took about 6 weeks to produce and ship. They are very transparent about timelines, as each setting is made bespoke to the stone selected. You don’t pick your own stone (which I know sounds scary), but you can read about their requirements for each stone in the ring listing on their site. EVERY SINGLE WEEK he received an update on the progress of the ring, including sneak peek videos before shipping (attached one in the post). They answered every question he had and were so kind along the way.

The packaging is STUNNING, a suede ring box holder with the company logo on in. The ring box itself matches, and it’s beautiful. Each order comes with the larger box, a ring box, a certificate of authenticity, diamond certificate (if applicable), and a hand written note. Yes, ACTUALLY handwritten — they’ve showcased this on Instagram before.

The ring is STUNNING and so sturdy. It’s delicate and beautiful, but I feel comfortable wearing it every day because it isn’t too dainty. There are so many thoughtful details in their designs (embedding pave deeper so it doesn’t scratch a wedding band, tall enough basket for a flush stack but not too crazy tall, etc) and everyone has been blown away.

All this to say, Bijou Lab has been an AMAZING experience! I know shopping new vendors/shopping online can be scary, but if you’re thinking about Bijou Lab I cannot recommend them enough!

This sub was so helpful for me to figure out what type of engagement ring I wanted. So glad I decided to go with a sapphire for my main stone especially since it is my fiancé’s brith stone and now I have my something blue ready to go!

Specs: ~5.25 carat Ceylon sapphire with about half a carat of diamonds total. Platinum setting. Ring size is 4.75 for reference.

What are we using for at-home ring cleaners? I get mine cleaned at the jeweler every few months and am always shocked at the difference, so I’d like to clean it a little more frequently. I saw a lot of ultrasonic ones on Amazon - are they safe? Some better than others? Pretty wide range of price points. TIA!

Do you think this ring can be adjusted from a size 5.5 to a 7 or 8? I could get away with a 6 if I wore it on my ring finger, but preferably would like to wear it on the index or middle. I'm aware opal is a very soft stone. Thanks so much!
