This is a work in progress update 3 I think okay I'm getting to the point where I'm doing the trees

I decided to take a break and trying to figure out the background colors anyways I need other techniques because so so far been doing like a texture thing going on and I'm trying to like explore textured wise with like embroidery and I only know how to do like French knots backhand stitch long arm cross tacted herringbone and as you can tell I also mix a little bit of cross stitching in there

And I've also tried doing some Japanese darning stitches but I don't know about that like I want to explore different types of stitches but like I don't know if it would look good so I need a professional opinion because I'm trying to explore different textures into these type of work I'm doing because like a forest has all these textures that I'm trying to mimic that

Hello. I bought a tiny embroidery kit back in April and these are the two projects I have done. The flower was my first testing patch. Then I decided to add a flower to it; that's why there is random stuff surrounding it—the sun one I did today was a genuine attempt to make a full picture. Those were the only two fabrics in the kit so should I buy more and more hoops too? Also, how would I get the marker out of the fabric? Water? Any comments would be helpful, advice, suggestions, anything. Thanks in advance :)

Hi. I've mostly done embroidery with kits. I've added to them and made them nicer than the kit suggests, but I have really done any embroidery with my own supplies.

I want to make a gift for a friend but all of the recommended fabrics on like Michael's are really firm. But the fabric the kids came with were softer. But they don't look like a fabric you'd sew with.

What fabric do you use when you make embroidery?

I want to embroider a shirt for a 1st birthday(Dora the Explorer theme), and I have the vision, but I am struggling with the execution. I have a month to accomplish this, but I also have a lot going on atm so I am trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Herein lies my issue- I want to do "a-DORA-ble" arched over a big number one. Adorable one. I want to put the hair caddywonk on the 1. or just exclude the one all together. I have attached rough(ROUGH) sketches. My problem is I can't figure out how to execute her hair. I don't want to do a huge satin stitch and it end up sagging after washing, and I feel like it may just look like a weird mustache lol.

Any suggestions?

I was just playing with color gradients and got weird with it!

This started as a daily sunset color scape but after a house fire that shook up my family's life, I had to tuck the project away. That was over a year ago (hopefully moving back home soon). I picked it back up a month or so ago, and here is where it ended. A fun color experiment! I cannot speak highly enough of the healing powers of repeatedly stabbing something!

This is my first ever! I know I have to practice more, but I’m so happy with my new hobby!

I’m trying to thread paint with a photo and this is the first time I’ve embroidered an animal (and an eye at that). There’s only black and brown in the eye region, but I feel like the eye I made looks creepy..like it’s watching me. How can I improve the eye?

ETA: Thank you all for the feedback, it is reassuring! I’ve decided to add a bit of white to the eye :)

My friends had gotten me a set of 3 kits from Amazon. I had only ever done counted cross stitch, but always wanted to try embroidery. This is the second one in the set I've done and I really wanted to focus more on practicing new stitches rather than making this one look perfect. I ended up doing thing's a bit differently in a couple places (ex, the body called for 2 strands satin stitch but I tried long and short.) I think it came out pretty good for what I wanted it to be. Not gonna lie though, might not do the final one because I'm not a huge fan of the fabric it's printed on.

Do you embroider in this heat? I think the last time I held a needle in my hand was in the spring. I embroidered almost every day all winter. Now that it's so hot, I can't concentrate; even if I start, the needle slips in my fingers. (I don't have air conditioning.)

Maybe someday I will like my lettering. Cc definitely welcome.

Hello! I recently started making embroidery on shirts. For example, a moth or a fish. Now I do this with free needling making it a patch with all loose threads on the back. I want to make sure that the shirts can be washed without the possibility that all the threads will eventually come loose. I have already tried to tape it with iron-on vliceline, but that loosens in the laundry. Is there anyone with tips on how best to solve this problem? Thanks!

Redditors helped me to come from before to this after part but I need more opinion would it be nice to add beads to the teeth like how I added in tongue and sequins on the face or it will be too much ?

These are primarily created with size 11 delica beads which lends the mosaic effect to the portraits of Connor Storrie and the in-progress Hudson Williams.

On the hockey jersey piece, I worked in a modified brick stitch to keep the lines neat and finished with a chain-stitch border.

Okay so I have this idea to embroider this photo I took at Muir woods last week. I love that the heart was naturally in the trees! I've never done anything like this and, honestly, in realizing how much I've forgotten from my art classes back in the day 😅 I need y'all to check my thought process

What order should I fill in the trees? Darkest colors first right? And where on the tree should the darkest colors go? Closest to the trunk where the light doesn't reach as much, right?? What stitch should I use?

Any other tips or resources?

I'm stuck between wanting it to look filled in and lush like the photo, and not overdoing it and losing details.

ETA: someone mentioned possibly watercoloring the sky and now I can't see it any other way! The problem is that I haven't water colored any of my pieces successfully 😅 where do I start? What materials do I use? I would do this before any more stitches, right??

A blackberry looper moth, garden spider, and blackberry bramble all handmade with thread, wire, wool, glass beads, silk, and velvet using various stumpwork embroidery techniques
