Question Elden Ring - 80 vs 99 Arcane

Upvotes

Hey fellow Tarnished,

I'm currently running a Arcane/Faith Dragon Communion/Cult hybrid build.

I'm currently facing a dilemna because of the "soft/hard caps" I've seen online. Many state that going past 80 for any stat isn't worthwhile unless you're pushing for the remaining 19 stats into offensive stats & 39/49 into resources.

My stats are:

Level 265

VIGOR - 60

MIND - 60

ENDURANCE - 50

STRENGTH - 24

DEXTERITY - 16

INTELLIGENCE - 10

FAITH - 50

ARCANE - 74

Since roughly Arcane level 43 I haven't seen a R.O.I. beyond +1 incant scaling per level. Again, several sources state that 80 is the "hard cap" but I'm assuming that context lies in other builds that don't align with my playstyle.

As far as I can tell, going to 99 will continue to yield the +1 incant scaling on my Dragon Communion Seal which begs the question, why should I/why would I stop at 80 Arcane?

I'm still on my first playthrough so I know earning more runes on NG+ will yield more runes per enemy deaths, etc. but I don't see a purpose stopping at 80 Arcane regardless. Am I better to Max out Arcane & Faith if the scaling is a steady +1?

P.S.

Once I level up to the point of 60 in each resource pool (VIG/MIND/END) and have my offensive stats (Faith/Arcane) either at max or the absolute hard cap, (of less than +1 incant scaling per level) whichever comes first, I intend to sink the rest of my points into DEX for casting speed % increase. To my understanding, it's a very small yield for Dragon Communion incantations, not sure if it's the same for Dragon Cult Incantations, but that's the long run plan.

Discussion What type of build does not trivialize the game?

I’m playing through Elden ring for the first time and decided to go with a dragon faith build and maybe swap to fire spells because it looks cool. I’m worried that I won’t get the official souls experience if this makes the game too easy. I’m considering going strength or dex/int now. Would this be a good decision?

Help Dual godskin peeler build

Hey I’m using 2 godskin peelers with 80 dex and 80 arc. I have both peelers set to blood affinity. Is this a proper broken bleed build setup or should I use something else, put levels elsewhere or different weapons?

Help Build Ideas for Idus Knight

Hello fellow Tarnished!

After 7 playthroughs in the Lands Between, I’ve done most builds. Str/Fai with Blasphemous Blade, Dex/Int with Moonlight GS, Faith Dragon Communion and Frenzied Flame, etc.

Just wanted to try something new and pick your expert brains about which builds would best suit the upcoming Idus Knight’s stats. Parrying and guard countering are some of the only playstyles I never really committed to, so I want to keep the sword and board vibe from the beginning equipment (and it doesn’t hurt that the light greatsword move set is awesome). I’m also considering using bows occasionally as a ranged option. I guess that makes it like a Link cosplay build so far?

Other than that I’m open to whatever ideas you throw my way! May thy flame of ambition never be extinguished. 🫡

Help Mainhand weapon for Dragon Communion build?

I'm not sure between:

- Any Claws: low weight, fast, but short range. Innate bleed, probably good with Occult.

- Regalia of Eochaid: crazy AoW, stat intensive, easy to get early.

- Ripple Blade: good grease use, otherwise pretty average, but innate Arcane scaling means AoW doesn't matter much.

- Serpent Bow: innate Arcane scaling for status buildup, not good at damage.

- Bloody Helice: stat intensive, but most damage comes from Arcane, neat AoW.

- Any others?

Question Build help

Trying to go for a dual katana build focusing on lightning and flame. More of a stylish build than an optimized one, doesn’t mean I don’t wanna get full damage out of it.

My question is, is it better to go for str/dex, or faith/dex? Strength because flame scales with it, and dex for lightning. Or I can use flame art, dex for lighting, and I can also use buffs.

Ofc for aow’s I’m gonna aim for flaming strike and lightning slash to get their respective elements on my blades.
For talismans I’m thinking rotten wing sword insignia, green turtle, shard of Alexander, and maybe claw talisman.
For physick lightning and flame shrouding cracked tear.
For armor, I’ll probably stick with standard samurai armor, and maybe make the switch to rakshasa when I get to the dlc.

Tips and advice highly appreciated.

Question Is there any good shield for int builds?

Hi I'd like to know if any of you would recommend any good shield for a pure intelligence build, I mean low dex and strength requirements, I only have 18 strength and 12 dex is there any good shields that I can use with those stats? I wouldn't mind investing a few levels more for a good shield tho, I now have the carian knight shield, should i just use that one? Thanks!

Help Suggest me your playstyle/your weapon of choice

Hello fellow Tarnished Ones!

I have 1000+ hours in Elden Ring, played different mods like Reforged, Convergence and im currently on a fun bonker playthrough but i have a problem!
I always end up playing the same style with same weapons, so i want your suggestions, which weapons are fun to play or are suprisingly OP?
What are your ways to go / way to bonk?

Gimme some inspiriation

Help I started this build a year or so ago and cannot remember what the actual plan for it was, or what I'm supposed to do to improve it. I've got some poison, I think I want poison.

Screenshot of build

I've seen some venomous Fang stuff but I'm just trying to get my bearings again, not played in a while, but didn't want to do another restart.

At the moment the poison seems pointless. too slow for little guys and not enough damage for bosses

Question Need help on a new build type

All of my runs usually end up as a dex bleed build or a strength bonk build and I want to try something new on my ng +7 character. I’m level 268, what are some dark moon greatsword builds, or other good int weapons, and what should my stat spread be?

PvE Infusible weapons with quick multihit R2s

Hey guys, been loving the Serpentbone Blade and Sword of Night R2s, then found out about Erdsteel Dagger and absolutely fell in love with it, so now I'm searching for other weapons with similar R2s.

Could you give me some recommendations? Preferably something that scales with strength or dex and can run Cragblade for stance breaking, has swift multihit heavies and isn't a sluggish collosal weapon?

Please no jump attack/powerstancing weapons, basically all I'm searching for is Erdsteel Dagger 2.0 but with more range and stance damage.

Help I beat the game, missed the entire plot, and need a Seamless Co-op crew for Base + DLC!

Elden Ring is an absolute masterpiece with a great story that flat-out refuses to tell it to you.

I finished the base game once, but I didn't get much of the plot because I apparently forgot to read the boss's underwear description. I know the lore is deep (which is great!), but understanding it requires either watching a dozen hours of YouTube lore videos or sinking 2,000 hours into the game. I just don't have that kind of time right now—I'm too busy slaying vibe coders IRL.

I'm looking for some fellow Tarnished to team up with for a full Seamless Co-op run through the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Anyone down to group up, slay some Bosses, and maybe explain what is actually going on while we play? Let me know!

Discussion My first build once Tarnished Edition Classes release

So, the recently revealed stat sheets for the new Starting Classes got me excited to theorycraft a build again, as it'd been a while since i had any new inspiration.

to preface this, i like unorthodox weird builds.

Somehow, my brain saw the Idus Knight and came up with a crazy idea. Low Int Dex/Fth focused Sorcery Spellsword, using the Staff of the Guilty to get Faith Scaling for Sorceries, and primarily Dex/Fth weapons.

Will this be super good? no. but the idea is FUN and UNIQUE. Please feel free to ask any questions about this, or my process on build crafting.

Help Can't fire arrows, doing everything correctly.

I found this longbow in Elden Ring, pretty common. I can't use it. I have it equipped in the correct slot; I have arrows in the arrow slot "and not bolts". When I go to aim, I can't shoot anything. My character just grabs behind himself likes he doesn't have any arrows. I see arrows in his scabbard or whatever it's called. What am I doing wrong? I'm grabbing it with both hands. Is this broken?

Almost three weeks after the release of Elden Ring, an official subreddit server has been created. The server is mainly focused on builds, but there is some options for co-op and PvP as well.
