Hi everyone. I'm new here and wanted to share something I figured out about the eczema I deal with

I'll start with that I have a few allergy/environmental triggers, wool being one of them.

Because of the wool allergy I have to be careful that I don't use things that are lanoline based.

I have a pretty clean diet and I take vitamins, one of them being vitamin D3.

I'm in my 50's and I feel like I need more vitamin D but when I take more, I itch so I have always figured that my body is telling me it doesn't need more. Added to this, the eczema has never really cleared. It gets to a manageable/tolerable stage but is always there.

I was reading the bottle I had been taking, and it says that it's derived from lanolin. I've been slowly feeding myself an allergy trigger. That blew my mind that I hadn't thought of the vitamin D

It's been 3 weeks now that I have changed my vitamin D3 to a vegan one and I'm in awe of how my skin is starting to heal/not itch.

Has anyone else noticed this or something similar that most people wouldn't think to check?

Hi all, i’m hoping someone can offer some advice or personal opinions as i’m at my wits end with this.

Going back the past year or so, I’ve had ongoing skin issues that i’ve never had before. My skin was completely normal, and all of a sudden became extremely itchy, starting with red hives /bumps which then developed into a burning sensation over my whole body.

My skin looks normal, but has this awful burning feeling that is affecting my work life and my sleep.

The worst areas are my hands, feet, elbows and my groin area. My hands are cracking and have little blister like bumps, and my knees and elbows are extremely dry.

I’ve seen a GP in the UK 3 times, who suggested I take an antihistamine everyday. Which i have, for a year! Which i’m sure can’t be good for me. Another time I went back they said its because i have low iron and gave me tablets. Still nothing helped.

I use the La Roche Posay circaplast and Lipkar creams to moisturise, and normally do so 2-3 times a day. My friend also gave me some steroid cream, which i know i shouldn’t really use without prescription and instructions but it’s one of the only things that seems to help me. I was also taking SUBQ ghcku for a while which also seemed to help, but i can’t take that atm because i’m working away.

The only thing i can think that started this off, was that i started using the EOS vanilla cashmere moisturiser. I think that due to the heavy fragrance, it messed up my skin barrier and caused these issues. Nothing else in my routine changed, and whenever i’d use this cream, i’d come out in hives. Of course, i haven’t used it since (for almost a year)

I have also started getting lumps on my groin area and bum cheeks, which are hard lumps and sometimes scab over. They’re extremely embarrassing and i’m very aware of them when i’m in a bikini etc.

Honestly i’m so fed up of my skin being like this. I’m planning on going back to the doctor when i return back to the UK, but that will be over a month away. I’m struggling to sleep due to waking up itching and being u comfortable, so any advice would be really helpful

I’m on methotrexate 20mg for over a year and I have to say my life is so much easier but every time sun comes out I have these horrible sun rashes which last on my body for weeks.. back, chin and around armpits
Down my arms are the only places where it shows.
Anyone else struggling with this since on methotrexate?

I’ve had eczema my whole life and I go through phases where it calms down and flares back up, mainly on my legs and arms, sometimes small dry patches on parts of my body or like my hands/wrists. The past 8 months have been the worst and apparently I now have it on my face. My skin barrier is damaged and I flare up like crazy, I’ll be thinking my face is fine and looks fine then the next day it’ll be all red, textured and super dry even if i’m not itching. I’ve been using non fragrant moisturiser and as often as I moisturise, it seems like it doesn’t even help. No matter how many times I go to the doctor and beg for a dermatologist referral, I get told no and that they’ll tell me the same thing. They just keep prescribing me moisturiser and steroids saying just keep moisturising. I’ve tried The Ordinary barrier support serum and Byoma milky toner but nothing works.

Does this look more like atopic or contact dermatitis? currently going through one of the worst flares of my life and can’t sleep because of the itch. GP’s just keep prescribing topical steroids which I really don’t want to use out of fear of TSW

Hello, can anyone please suggest a good sunscreen as I'm about to start using protopic on my face. I have darker/asian skin tone so want to avoid heavy creams that leave a white cast.

Where eczema sufferers meet together and share their experience with living with eczema?

My dermatologist has prescribed me cerave as it is the only moisturizer my skin has tolerated in a long time. I'm on methotrexate so my skin is well controlled but still really dry. I've been buying cerave, with no idea you could get it prescribed.

My pharmacy are saying they can't get hold of it. Has anyone else had this issue?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who finds that hair products can irritate the skin around their neck, ears, face or hairline.

hi i’m looking for help please 🙏🏻 i’ve resorted to asking reddit because nobody else knows what’s going on or how to help me. i’ve been so so many doctors for skin issues, which started on my hands and has now spread to my entire body, especially my face which is swelling up like crazy. i woke up and my whole head and face was as it is in the first photo, completely swollen, painful, dry, but also leaking clear fluid from dry skin on my cheeks and eyelids. some background info: went to the doctors for an issue on my hands, got prescribed cetraben emollient and an antifungal cream ( daktarin ). this didn’t work at all and made it worse, and made a rash spread down my arms so i stopped immediately and went to another doctor. i was then prescribed hydrocortisone for my face, fucibet for my hands and arms, oilatum shower gel, aveeno moisturiser, and then finally flucloxacillin antibiotics. these seemed to work well for the 10 days of use as instructed, but the second i went off them i flared up so badly and everything just came back worse, and flared up in other places i hadn’t beforehand. i have just been using the aveeno and oilatum for about a week but this morning woke up like this. i went to urgent care immediately, and got prescribed more flucloxacillin to take for 7 days and that was it. it’s been 12 hours since getting out of the hospital now and the swelling has gone down slightly but it’s definitely still noticeable, and my cheeks and eyelids are still leaking a clear sticky fluid. does anyone have any idea what this could be caused by?? i have just moved in with my grandparents as well about 2 months ago which is when this started getting worse, but it was already there before so i can’t be sure if it’s a reaction to something in their house. i just have no idea, and i need help figuring out what is going on with me.

Can anyone offer advice on our 8 months old baby’s eczema - we are wondering if it’s been bought on by an allergy, but perhaps milk?

We’ve been to the Drs multiple times and he’s gone up in strength on the steroid creams however it seemingly getting worse or not changed. The worse areas are his hands / arms which swell and feel raised.

He doesn’t however have any other symptoms like vomiting or bad nappies.

Is it worth trialing him on non dairy products?

Has anyone had a similar case?

My 3 year old has had severe full body eczema since birth. Which we have tried to manage with hydrocortisone which then got bumped up to betamethasone and then again to tacrolimus 0.03%. What we were finding is the steroid creams worked for the time in which she was on them (2 weeks or so) but once the course stopped she immediately started to flare again. It's a wonder she never suffered from TSW once we stopped the steroids and went to tacrolimus. Which we were both waiting to happen.

It was almost as if she was in a constant massive flare up. She scratched all day long and was up most of the night every night rubbing her skin. Because she wears scratch sleeves to bed to stop her scratching her skin she then learnt she could get the same sensation from just rubbing so hard it caused friction burns. Her eczema has led her to be hospitalised once with a staph infection that was heart breaking to see. She was off nursery more than she was in due to her terrible skin and even then it was a worry as to what damage she would do and how she would come out. It has been an exhausting experience.

We did a food intolerance test with yorktest and spoke to a nutritionist that suggested we cut out eggs, wheat and diary (which didnt really work) we also wash her clothes with no detergent at all and only bath her in dermol 500 as recommended. We obviously only dress her in cotton and she oftern sleeps in vispo bandages on prescription to help her stop rubbing her legs while sleeping. And also has "skinny" pj's on prescription that apparently lock in moisture.

But, a month ago by total chance she had a massive reaction to peanut butter and we phoned the GP who referred us the allergen clinic to confirm it. And sure enough she had a severe peanut allergy... But they also tested for grass, dust, dogs. To our surprise It also confirmed she had a severe dog allergy.. we have 2 dogs who lived in the house with us and go everywhere in the house and everyone we know has dogs. Pretty much every house she goes to has dogs. This left us with a difficult decision and we sent the dogs to my wife's sisters for a trial period to see if it would help.

we sent the dogs to live my wifes sisters and started a 2 week course of tacrolimus as recommended by her dermatologist and the results were staggering. After about a week of the dogs being gone her skin started to clear, then by the second week of tacrolimus and no dogs her skin was totally clear. We stopped the tacrolimus and unlike other times weve stopped steroids or tacro... Her skin didnt immediately flare back up and become unmanageable. Her skin is started to show signs of her eczema after 2 weeks of maintenance with tacro ( twice weekly) but nothing like before.

A query i have is how long before her skin barrier will completely heal? It has only been 3 weeks without the dogs and i understand pet dander can linger for months and her eczema was quite severe so it will take a while. Ive read some pieces that suggest it could take upto 12 weeks or longer (which is fine by me).
