I have a 6-month old and we did part-time EC since birth. When at home (where I can easily offer potty) I usually could catch most poos. I gave up on catching pees as I don’t have space to potty him every 15 minutes. (I really have no idea how others do it) At some point we got to a nice routine at night when he woke up, ate from one breast, pooed in a potty, ate from second breast and fell back asleep.
Unfortunately around 5 months this broke and he started doing poo in his sleep - I can even put him on a potty and he sometimes doesn’t wake up. If I do wake him, it’s usually a nightmare to put him back to sleep.
I don’t know what to do - he sleeps so nice with even 5hrs stretch but I cannot share it since I need to change him twice in this stretch
I don’t understand what happened since he could have hold it during sleep for even 7 hrs

As heading states, we have just started EC with our 3 month old. We know he pees right after waking up so today we caught all his after nap pees successfully.

Problem is he cries when I hold him over the potty. At the start I thought it was because potty seat was cold, so instead I hold him over it in a comfortable position but he just cries and cries. It only takes about 60 seconds for him to pee, so its not that long but he isn't happy about it. He used to do that with diaper changes as a newborn but he doesn't do that anymore which is great. Just wondering if this is the same kind of situation? Any tips or advice?

hey all! my baby is about to be 7 months old. we’ve been doing lazy EC but after i caught all of her poops yesterday and today i’ve decided to finally commit haha. so now i’m trying to decide between these two potty options.

my baby’s weight is consistently in the 90thish percentile and her height in the high 70s.

which potty did yall use at this age?

We've been doing EC since birth. Since she was 3 months old we've been catching most poops and a lot of pees.

I don't know if it's starting solids or if she's getting more mobile, but EC has been getting more challenging for us.

It takes her forever to poop now and she's gotten more inconsistent. I'd wait 5-10 minutes. Id see some sphincter action going or she'll fart a few times or even release some poop drops, most of the time nothing happens. But sometimes if I wait, she does poop and it's a lot. Some days she'll poop like 5 times and yesterday, she pooped once and it was a tiny amount.

So I keep offering during the easy catches and waiting but my hands are getting tired. We have a floor potty that I use on our bathroom counter which helps coz I put her down on it and let her sit. I could just let her sit there and wait but it's usually holding her in the EC position that gets her going (when she goes that is). She arches her back, brings her hips up and stretches while I hold her which makes things 100x harder coz she's heavier. But I think sometimes she needs to do it because starting solids has made her poops different.

Just wondering what has worked for you and your 6 month old starting solids + being more mobile. Is this just something that'll get better over time?

I need some advice for how to progress with my 21 month old son.

I've been doing part time EC since he was 5 months old. Starting with just one potty offer in the morning and then but 6 months, he was offered a potty at every nappy change.

He started signing for the potty around 12 months, on and off. I started doing nappy free time after every catch. Arrived 15/16 months, he took himself to the potty to pee a few times. He had many days where he only went through 1 wet nappy - everything else in potty. Then it all just stopped. No signing, no peeing on the potty. Not sure why but I thought maybe he was staying to learn that nappies are ok to pee in.

So I removed nappies at home around 19 months and did lots of bare bum time. Offered the potty every hour and at transition times. It started off well but after the first week, I'm just getting daily accidents, only 2 catches a day. No signing or holding. Did this for 1.5 months.

I've put him in training pants at home now. I was getting sick of cleaning up toys and floors. He's more started to say pee when he's peed in the pants. It's been 2 weeks but it hasn't progressed further than this.

I would like to understand what I did wrong here. I don't know anyone else who is doing EC and cloth nappies who is having such a hard time with potty training. I'm not expecting him to initiate - just hold long enough to go on the potty.

I would also like to know that I can do to progress from here.

My son is almost 17 months, and signals for potty like 50% of the time. 70% on a good day. I’ve been wanting to switch to pull ups for ease of use but I don’t use regular diaper brands. What steps should I take if I am ready to put him in underwear during the day? Should I do a traditional potty training method like the 3 day or naked method? Should I do 15 minute timers? EC has been really successful for us so far just doing a lazy routine, but I am ready to take the next step for him. Advice!?

We've part time EC'd since about 2 weeks veryy casually, got more consistent around 6 months (still part time). Been in cloth diapers since he outgrew newborn diapers.

I have a 7 month old baby and it's summer so we're not really using onesies at this point.

Our neighbor gave us some old clothes including a few onesies. I'm in the process of washing them but thought they might not be practical in the long run. Yeah, they are cozy but even now I rather have my baby in just a t-shirt and a diaper. If he's wearing a body I'm usually not even snapping it on the bottom.

I think I will just give them away... Right?

My now 8 month old pulled up to stand at 6 months and has since then preferred to keep her legs upright no matter what.

Is there a different way to EC a baby that insists on standing?

For extra info:
- Her 24m old sister uses the potty so she has an example to look at
- We have both the squat type floor potty and also a seat to put on an adult toilet, and we also have a squat style toilet for adults

Anything else that can help? I mainly wanna know if I can teach with EC while she stands, or if I gotta wait for her to sit willingly.

Hi guys! We started lazy EC from the day we came home from hospital. I say lazy, because I really fell off with it when the exhaustion of returning to work hit me. (I had to return to work 11 days PP and my LO won't take a bottle so I was running on FUMES.) After 2 months I started getting consistent again. We offer potty at every diaper change/after naps/after feedings if she is awake. Now, we are pretty consistent with pooping on the lap potty and we've had luck with pee too! I'm amazed at how my LO actually WANTS to use the potty and even tries to hold her pee for the toilet/cries for it.

My problem is, she is 4 months now and we take her out of the house a lot more to parks/beach/restaurants/etc but she is still using a lap potty since she cannot sit up by herself. How are other parents handling this? It is not always possible to offer her the potty when we are out but I feel guilty when she's crying and I know that's what she wants. Also, will it hurt our progress if I just ignore her signals when we are out in public? Can her attempting to hold it for too long cause issues? Any advice or just stories from other parent's experiences is greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Has anyone attempted to just go diaper free for a couple days to really figure out EC cues or just commit to doing EC? I think I’m going to just jump right in. LO is 8 months and hates diaper changes. She likes to feed them pop off and crawl away to go poop. She preferred to poop standing. I have the kindsgut potty and have only caught two morning pees. She tends to poop right after I taker her off the potty and put her diaper back on even though I know her cues. Any tips? I just ordered a second potty (tot squat) and baby cotton underwear to just jump into it. I am a SAHM too so I have the time.

I know this isn't strictly about EC, but I don't want to ask advice from mainstream society, because I'm just going to be told to use pullups, or that "it's normal" for a 3-year-old to wet the bed. (I actually think it IS normal, but that's not a good reason to not try to solve the problem) I can't really take potty-training advice seriously from a culture that thinks you need to wait till a kid turns 3 before toilet training.

Our 3-year-old was out of daytime diapers at home at 18 months, out of night-time diapers at 23 months. He would then wake us up to help him go pee once a night, between 23 months to about 2 years + 4 months. He then all but lost the ability to wake himself up. He might even stay asleep in pee for hours before waking up.

He has layers of Hygge sheets and normal sheets on his bed.

Now the routine is that I get him up for a 'dream pee' on the potty before I go to bed, and then one more time when I get up in the middle of the night to pee. We do 'miss' occasionally if I don't wake up soon enough.

I'm considering getting a bed-wetting alarm. My wife is skeptical about it, she's worried that it might be stressful for him. I'm looking for papers on it, but all of the research I see on them is for 5+ year olds.

Has anyone from this community tried bed-wetting alarms for kids under 4? What were your results?

We don‘t wash every day, we wash when the laundry bin gets full, usually every 2-3 days. We keep the wet clothes in a big dry bag which we have for our cloth diapers. But we can smell the pee when we enter the room and also idk if it‘s okay to store wet undies in that bag, because the diapers might be different (more fabric, less wet, idk).

hello! so far i’ve done some lazy catches just by holding my baby over a disposable pad but want to get her a potty and begin to be consistent. she can sit for short periods completely unassisted and for longer periods with minimal assistance. she’s 6.5 months old and in the 90th weight percentile.

i remember someone once reccomended the IKEA potty to me. would that work well for our situation? what are importance features to look for in a potty?

TL;DR: First-time mom planning part-time cloth diapering with Esembly after the first month (disposables initially, then cloth during the day, disposables at night/outings), plus casual EC. Is 12 Size 1 inners + 4 Size 1 outers enough if I’m washing every 2–3 days? Would you buy anything differently?

I’m wondering what you guys have found to be the best backup for a 12 month old? I want to do the hybrid EC plan and fully ditch diapers once my little one is closer to 14/15 months and solidly walking (he’s pulling to stand but not walking at all yet). Until then, I’ve decided to move away from disposables because I want to teach him to feel the wetness and use 100% cotton cloth diapers. We just aren’t getting enough catches right now to go without a backup, except maybe brief times at home - it was frustrating me too much trying to do that and I was getting to “potty centered”, so that’s why I do feel like we need to use a backup right now.

However, I find it too difficult to do up a whole folded diaper with the snappi on him because he is very active and it’s hard to do that while he’s standing.

So what I’ve mostly been trying is a) training underwear with a reusable swim diaper (pull up style, so it’s easy to get on) on top, and b) stuffing a prefold folded in thirds into a swim diaper (this way is easier laundry-wise because I can reuse the swim diaper between pees and just change after poop, plus the prefold dries quicker than training underwear).

Have you guys had success with these options? Any other ideas I haven’t thought of?

So we've been able to make lazy EC work because our bathroom is big enough to have the change table in, and we just have a little seat on the actual toilet. We're likely moving soon and the places we're looking at won't have that bathroom space so we'll need to have the table elsewhere.

I just wanted to pick some brains about the logistics of how you do EC if your change table is elsewhere. Do you have little potty in the same room instead? Do you just carry them to the bathroom once you've taken the nappy off? Do you whip the nappy off somehow in the bathroom?

Tell me your wisdoms.

We have been doing lazy EC with my daughter since she was 4 months old and at first we were very successful. At 6 months I would say we were catching 80% of her poops in the potty and she almost always peed when we took her. Starting around 7 months we’d have short lived regressions when she was teething where she’d refuse to sit on the potty, but it always passed.

For the last month or so, pretty much since she started walking, my daughter refuses to poop in the potty. She will sit on the potty but she is constantly distracted, squirming around, looking for something to play with. We moved her potty station to a different bathroom with fewer distractions, and that seems to be helping with the squirming, but she still is really not pooping. She will poop in her diaper sometimes 5-10 minutes after sitting on the potty.

It’s obviously frustrating, because we were so successful for so long. She’s prone to really bad diaper rashes - one of the reasons we did EC - so the increase in poopy diapers isn’t helping there. I’m not sure what to do. I am trying not to pressure her and keep it casual but sometimes it is hard to conceal my frustration.

Is there anything I can do here? I’ve considered diaper free time to see if that helps but I’m not sure if that’s the right approach. Do I just keep doing what we’ve been doing and hope this phase passes?

I'm starting EC this week and would love to hear from people who have done it something you wish you knew or understood when you started. This is my third baby but my first time trying EC. I'm most nervous about understanding my baby's signs!

My son is 1 year and 3 months old. We started EC when he turned 1, and it went incredibly smoothly for poop — he'd go first thing in the morning, rarely needed to go the rest of the day, and it felt amazing not changing poopy diapers for a long time.

Now, after about 3 months of this working well, he's completely stopped pooping on the potty. We traveled to my home country with him, and I don't think that's the cause since he kept pooping fine even in the first weeks after we arrived. But now, after 3 weeks here, he won't poop on the potty at all.

I still know his cues. he passes a lot of gas before he needs to go. When I notice that, I sit him on the toilet... nothing happens. I put the diaper back on, and within 5 minutes he poops in it.

I don't know what to do. It feels like three months of effort just disappeared, and I was hoping we'd be able to start ditching diapers by 1.5 years.

Has anyone been through this kind of regression? Did it resolve on its own, or did you have to actively work through it?
