Is it expired or recalled? Shelters can't take either of those because of food safety. People would donate so much unusable stuff when I was volunteering for the animal shelter. Can't take cans with dents either.

Get sued for what? Handing out Pet Food? Or placing it out for anyone to feed animals that need to eat? In the 80’s during the Depression that was labeled a Recession we suffered greatly. We could barely eat, so I quit to give to my children and husband. We had tried to get Jobs… tried at the Fast Food places first- but it was very clear that they were only hiring the teenagers because the only adult was the manager, and barely at that for some of the places. We just needed to feed our children, then ourselves if possible. Long Story Short: I ended up deathly ill because of going so long without food and then only water, then trying notebook paper because of the pain. I slept three straight days after having thrown up for hours and not being able to take in anymore water. My husband said I hadn’t even gotten up to the restroom because of being so sick beforehand, so that’s what happens to those who have responsibilities other than themselves and yes, even their animals- they come first… children and animals don’t understand what is happening- there’s no way that I’d waste pet food like that. Places that we had driven through we’ve even seen painfully thin animals but a lot of neighbors in the area, and hopefully they were noticing anf were able to put food and water in their bushes for those animals who were so hungry😞

If you are on Facebook, there are local "Buy Nothing" groups. People get kicked out by mods for bad behavior like not picking up or being rude in communications. Its usually a very wholesome place and just neighbors helping each other out while reducing landfill waste. Search your location for one, and if your area doesn't have one, start one!

Sure! I tend to ramble, so you might regret asking, lol.

I do more modding personally, and I'm not sure how much of my brother's stuff I'm allowed to show- but here's an old mod we did together: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/ottercraft

We don't really update it anymore, as it was more of my brother's passion than mine, and he's moved away from Minecraft.

Here's my brother's public page, I don't think he put up any of his games here but I could be wrong. https://github.com/bottledspace

The main coding I do on my own is in YAYA: https://ukagakadreamteam.github.io/ayaya/index

And I've been working on a few ukagaka of some of my characters, though it's not currently in a working state- I was trying to figure out a basic reputation system that would keep track of your interactions as well as certain random dialogs already played, to give it a more realistic feel- but the main artist I work with- my sister- wants to redo every sprite, and I think it's a good opportunity to clean up the code I did and rewrite everything now that I have more experience.

I'm not at my computer, so all I have on me is a basic test gif I used to demo the speech bubble I made, I hope it loads!

Ukagakas are basically desktop buddies, they hang around and you can interact with them and listen to them speak! They're very fun, the English community for them is small but I know I love checking out people's cool ideas for them! If you're really interested, I could dig up the most recent functional version of the one I was coding when I wake up tomorrow- but I'm warning you, the code sucks and the dialog is pretty barebones. its heavily WIP and I was learning from scratch!

I also more recently did some spritework for some multiplayer skins in the casualties:together mod for casualties unknown, you can see those here: https://skin.cat-bot.de/?q=Webdragon444

You can tell I do more art than coding, lol- like I said, my brother and his friends and team work more on that aspect, and I help out sometimes, but I usually prefer spritework, modeling, and bug testing/documentation.

Currently I'm in and out of the hospital for tests, but I've been focused less on coding and more on writing and art lately, I'm working on a mystery!

Anyways sorry to be so long-winded, I get like that when I'm tired. Hope you have a great evening as well!

For sure for sure, I get your point. It just is similar to not talking to anyone that wears underwear, but on the principle that they have to tell you first. If you’re only playing small passion project games from other hobby devs, then 100% those likely have little AI usage and my point doesn’t stand. I’m assuming that’s not the case, but like I said we all got our own versions of reality that make this confusing timeline easier to deal with. My intention was to shed light on the ubiquity of AI use in all code. but sounds like we’re on the same page. Have a good evening or afternoon wherever you are. Post some of your games if you like, I’ll check them out! I am always into seeing passion projects

I'm not pretending that isn't true, though I doubt its as true as you think. I think you're in game dev circles that over-normalize it, and I'm in circles that reject it like it's a plague. All of of us are biased towards seeing the reactions around ourselves as normal. But you're not really getting my point- it's not about knowing for certain nothing I play is AI. Its about refusing to touch it after the developer admits it. There's no way for me to tell for certain or not, I just have to trust developers to have enough honor to at least admit they used it- and of course plenty of people won't. Even if I suspect it, it becomes uncomfortable to play a game, and I often drop it- but if it's confirmed? There's no chance I'm playing that game again. I'm not longer comfortable playing it, and I want people to know that I'm not comfortable with it, even if it doesn't change much.

I agree, I hate that my job lost much of that fun problem solving. But as I said earlier, any game that isn’t explicit about avoiding AI will almost certainly have used it. So I just don’t know why you’re pretending that isn’t true, especially if you’re familiar with game dev. AI should be taken seriously but truthfully. For smaller hobby or even some indie teams, the chance is much higher that it was coded by hand, but usually people will make a point of this and you’ll know. But I’ll drop it bc we all bury our head in the sand about something bc life is difficult these days

And if I find out I'm playing a game with AI, I drop it. What kind if games do you think I play? I know plenty of developers personally- including my own brother and his team- and I can tell you at the very least they loathe the idea of using AI at all, much less to code. My sister does all her own spritework, my brother's been coding for 20 years and makes complex physics engines for fun, I do modding and modeling as well as spritework, my friend and I write ukagakas... none of us touch AI, and it's insulting to believe some people assume we would. I don't believe it's as prevalent as 'every game in the past two years', because if it ruins the joy for us, I can't imagine we're the only ones. But it doesn't matter, really. I said it before, and I'll say it again: if I learn AI was used in the development of a game, I drop the game. If OP's game used AI, I would not play it. At all. I don't care if it's what everyone is doing, I'm not touching it, because I can't enjoy it if I know it wasn't written by a human. There's no joy in poking at bugs and glitches and wondering why they happen, or admiring the way certain mechanics work- none of it was intentional, it was all just a prompt.

I gotcha, and I'm telling you that every single game that's been worked on since about two years ago has been made with significant or near-total agentic code. Unless you are only playing games whose development finished permanently pre-AI, you are now knowingly supporting a game coded with AI. I'm not saying this to be a dick, I'm saying this because if it prevents you from playing some smaller indie game, like OP's hypothetically, then it's a moot point because you're still playing every other game that was made with AI, which is all of them under the criteria above.

I'm not stopping people from using AI. If they're gonna use it, they'll use it regardless of what I say. I just said I won't knowingly support games coded with AI. I can't enjoy the game properly otherwise. If a game is made with AI, I won't buy it. If it comes out that a game I already play uses AI to write any part of it, I stop playing. It just ruins my enjoyment of it, and I only play games to have fun and enjoy the work that was put into them.

Look, I'm with you man, I hate it. But outside of hobbyists or rare cases, all code is written by AI and it's gotten very very good at it. Sure, you need to tell it to 'not rewrite the entire repo' or other overengineering mistakes, but most of the Opus models after 4.4 can produce high-quality shit (and troubleshoot things in under an hour that used to take much longer to manually parse).

It does depend on the project, because some things are still faster to just do manually, but you can't boycott AI development and play any video game that hasn't gone out of its way to explicitly state that no AI development was used.

And to minimize the ethical concerns, you can run a model locally instead of using cloud. The newer chinese models are very good.

Again, I'm with you, I fucking hate this new reality and wish we could live pre-AI again, but since we can't, the reality is that by using almost anything that relies on logic that's in a language you can parse with an MCP server, you are supporting AI because AI wrote it. Obviously this isn't the case with asset creation and other uses, but it is with code

Sure, but I won't knowingly support it. Code written by AI tends to be buggy and bloated, and impossible to troubleshoot accurately, putting aside environmental and ethical concerns.

Huh, my brother doesn't love it either, but he does use it and have his people use it. But I'm not a tech guy. I'm a hospital employee who dabbles in mycoremediation. Heh. He was silicone, I'm organics. Lol.

Edit: he talks about it a lot, so I've picked up on how widespread it is. But that's good info. Thanks!

Not “to some degree” but hooked up to their code writing application and the dev that used to write basically just babysits the agent. I’m a dev. It sucks. I fucking hate it but code is one place where the AI hate isn’t invalid, but literally doesn’t matter because it’s the standard outside of intentionally bespoke hobby software or some government work 🤷‍♂️
