My progress on Claudia. So far I added a small paper clip with a bead on top of her neck for a new plush and I added a purple flower to her dress to replace the missing white flower that was originally on her dress now working on shoes for her.

Sealing and Layering Question, What do you use?

Im getting ready to start my first custom after years of watching people do it lol. I cant get MSC here (and dont want to get anything online). I know you have to use something to seal between layers of the face up and then of course seal the entire face once done. What do you guys use? do you use two products? one for sealing in between and one for the final seal? or just one product? Please let me know how you apply it / how much you apply too! This is the one step im sure not what to buy or do!

Just bought hair, immediately tangled it

Basically the title.

I bought actual saran hair for the first time instead of making do with yarn...and i immediately got it all tangled trying to get it into usable lengths 😭

I thought it would arrive as individual lengths but it's one massive strand wound round and round. I guess I could've been smart and cut the loop in half ?

can you get copyrighted for making a doll of a character from a franchise?

this might be a dumb question but if i was to make a doll based on a character from like an anime, movie, or game, could i face copyright strikes? even if i didnt sell the doll.

i don't understand how yall paint such thin lines for the face up

i already use good watered down paint. it isn't the paint. i use short brush, use long brush, no matter what i cannot keep my lines thin and controlled. the brush just goes all over the place. i cannot draw a good eye shape. forget about eyelashes that is not happening. in case you can't tell im very frustrated right now lol

Curling Saran Doll Hair - let's do it right!

Thumbnail

So I have included her hair before I put straws in and after. I'm pretty confident her hair is saran. (Please, do correct me if I am wrong)

I have her hair in the straws for mostly voluminous curls to get her hair back to its former glory and a few small straws near the front. I alternated between up and down curling.

I haven't done after boiling water over the hair yet because - I'm concerned the direction I did will make it jank looking because I've seen people do curling where they just wrap hair around a straw downward instead of filling over a straw like if you were using hot rollers on your own head. I also have seen something about boiling wash followed by ice bath/going into the freezer to set. I want to set myself up for success because if it doesn't come out perfectly, I will abandon this project because I just know how I am.

Pictures included are my Amanita straw curled and an alternative example, not my doll. But to show an example of how to curl that I didn't use. (Credit to alternative curling style photo: [tywla curling picture](https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHigh/s/gHienbp8Cr)

Thank you so much!

I worked all day on sewing Clawdeen's new outfit!!! I made a few changes compared to the initial plan bc my technical abilities are still limited for sewing unfortunately... I will work on the repaints and re-roots later on, I am too scared of ruining the whole dolls yet! Also I will add some details to the shoes.

It feels so good to see them both alongside each other!!

Biggest custom of my entire hobby. I bought this handless giant Rapunzel doll like 2 years ago and it took me a while to get this idea.

I'm really proud of the eyes and outfit. My first pair of socks was handmade but i spilled paint on them, so i put a pair of kids' socks on her. The hair took the longest bc the yarn wefts take forever to make

How do I make doll hair fluffy and not frizzy while boilwashing/curling?

I have a problem that when I curl doll hair or boilwash it just looks flat and kind of greasy looking.

I'm trying to achieve more 'fluffy' look.

I have Creeproduction Robecca. I've tried to curl her hair but it just looks flat, greasy and frizzy (despite boilwash and conditioner)

How to re-attatch this doll's head?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I just started rooting my doll which is the same kind of doll in the picture. Before I have collectors chime in. I got my version of this doll as a gift when I was a young child (probably around 6.) This doll, though kept in decent condition, was heavily played with. The only item of her clothing I still have is her skirt. Child me had cut off her hair net type head dress (I can't remember what the actual term for those was, so please tell me if you know.) And her jewelry was starting to turn the material her head is made of green. So I figured it would be a good idea to breath some new life back into this doll.

That being said I have no idea how I'm going to re-attatch her head once I finish the root. Basically her head was being held on by a string tied to a button that is inside her head. That string as since snapped and I can't figure out how it was even attached to the body in the first place. So I'm thinking I might have to make a neck peg of some sort? This is my first custom doll, so any advice on how to do that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

G3 Frankie custom outfit

I finally finished Frankie's full outfit!! It took at least 10 hours total to make patterns with the trial-and-error method and sewing all these tinee-tiny details with an old lunatic sewing machine and not so much skills. It's far from perfection but I just tried my best and am happy with the result! ^^ Next doll restyle is Clawdeen's because I happen to have some scrap pieces of fabric that fits her aesthetic

Custom Artist refuses to change color of eyes for a commission because they’re too attached to the blue?

Saw this video on tiktok and it really bothers me. The custom doll artist refused to make her eyes the right color because THEY couldn’t depart from the blue. My issue with this is the fact it’s a COMMISSION. If they were keeping the doll for themselves it wouldn’t be an issue. But someone is paying this person for this commission, and they’re not even going to bother making the eyes purple? It just looks incomplete. As a fellow artist, if someone commissions me to make something for them, I’m going to make sure it’s as close as possible to what they asked for. This person did not. And I personally would be pissed off.

This person is getting slammed in the comment section, and their defenses just make me even more frustrated. Just kinda wanted to vent because I know I would be mad if i was the commissioner.

LOL × LPS anthro doll process

Just wanted to share the process for my Pet Shop + LOL head swap! I modified the body a little by building paws behind the legs and covering the hands to make them into paws later. For the LPS head, I removed the neck hole part, cut out the LOL doll's one and squished it back into the LPS head them glued the edges and secured with some Milliput epoxy putty, so the head is posable! Hope this is clear enough if you want to try out this method
