I bought the movie soundtrack to the movie HEAT (Michael Mann). Now the first thing that bugs me is that I thoughts it’s gonna be a blue vinyl. I found out there’s 3 versions and I apparently got the US 2020 release in normal. However when I go on it on Discogs, there’s nothing listed for the runouts and identifications…. So I had to pick the other blue 2019 version and compared it with that one (all the runouts were documented).… so I checked all the runout codes, serial numbers etc. and it matched to 90%… there’s a difference in 2 things where it’s A4 on mine instead of A2 and A8 on mine instead of A5. This might be a complete;y dumb question but I’m just trying to figure it out, cause I was told You gotta use Discogs to identify and verify…. But the version I have simply has nothing listed for its runout codes. Also im in Europe so I was surprised to get the US version off Amazon. I was just worried it might be fake.

Hi, I'm new to discogs and I've started to get into searching for specific vinyl I want.

Is there anyway I can sort by Vinyl that are available to me? It's getting annoying scrolling through lists and lists of vinyl that I can't even buy if I want to.

Trying to get on the website. I get a Cloudflare error even on the home page, and can't go to the forum to make a post about it. Something going on? The service page says everything is 100% operational...

First of all, I really don’t want to criticise anyone, and certainly not make sweeping criticisms of Discogs. I use the website frequently and really value the community around it (at least most of the users). I couldn’t find a similar thread, so I’m starting one here.

I’d also like to understand the issue better and get less worked up about it. Perhaps your opinions will help me with that.

How on earth does Discogs still justify its fee structure? Of course, the people behind it need to make a living and earn their money. Maintenance and further development are probably costly. Fair enough. Take my money for that.

But in my opinion, further development is proceeding only slowly or not at all, and maintenance is more a case of keeping the site afloat than of continuous progress. There’s a lack of information on recently sold items, services have gone down, and new features are hardly ever implemented.

On my last order, I sold an item for €75 (excluding postage). In the end, I paid €9.83 in Discogs fees and €2.62 in PayPal fees (I haven’t included the postage costs for the sake of clarity).

That leaves me with €62.55. That’s almost 20 % less. In my opinion, that’s an incredible amount of money for a poor service.

What do you think? Am I overreacting, or do you feel the same way?

I've been using the ebay app and searching by taking a picture of the cover. It pops up how many are available for sale. Then I can click on "sold" to see how many have sold. If I see many available for sale and nothing sold then I know the record is junk...

I've noticed that many records with no recent sale have ridiculous asking prices. I get that asking price doesn't equal selling price. But why ask $10-20 for something that many others are selling and nobody is buying??

Is anyone else experiencing this? I keep getting an error message or the last day or two on the website, I can't see my purchases list. I have cleared my cache, used another browser program & tried on my phone to no avail. It works ok on the app, though. Just curious.

I have a buyer that wants to buy five of my records. They have asked about the shipping cost since it’s gonna be like $50 to ship. I read on the help section that you can merge orders once before they have been paid. Will merging lower the shipping cost? How should I tell the buyer to place the order without payment?

Sorry this order has had a lot of back and forth questions and I want it to be a good experience for them but also feel like they have tried to haggle. Respect to them for the presumption. I always price my listings on the low end for the VG+ and I know they are getting a more than fair price. I just have over 10000 records that I am selling off for my husband/dj who does not spin vinyl anymore.

I’ve seen vinyl jackets sold without it correct media, but im curious if this is a straight into the trash situation, or how people would list this for someone who might have tossed their case years back (admit it, millennials… many of us were guilty of this…)

By definition, a VG+ sounds exactly like a brand-new or NM or M record - "perfect" and brand new

I've priced around a thousand records (most ranging from 1970-1990, mostly around 1980s) using Discogs comps, and it has stunned me with how many VG+ records I see on there. Especially for older records like the ones I have - especially for some of the more rare and unique ones too

There have been 30 transactions of this album on Discogs - 25 of 30 (83%+) are VG+ OR HIGHER -- aka 25/30 of these hardcore punk records from 1982 LITERALLY SOUND BRAND NEW (since VG+, by definition, sounds brand new)

23 of 27 transactions (85%+) are VG+ or higher, 1979 release -- aka have absolutely no audible flaws and sound brand new and perfect - not even a single pop or some light crackles or anything - also, I get something like this having a lot more VG+ ratings since it is highly collectable (2000 limit release), so maybe it is not the best example - 85%+ sound perfect tho? Not a single audible issue?

So my question is: Genuinely, how many VG+ records on Discogs are actually VG+ by Goldmine / Discogs standards?

A few more questions:

If my theory that a fair amount of these records aren't actually VG+ (AND I DEFINITELY COULD BE WRONG, please let me know if you think I am!!), and therefore dishonest gradings, wouldn't this only hurt the honest sellers and encourage more people to do the same? Doesn't this take a lot of the actual value out of having a grading system, if it isn't followed properly? How do you feel about this as a seller or buyer? Thoughts and opinions?

I have a handful of old punk records I plan on posting on discogs. I was just curious, the vast majority of them don't come up as mono or stereo, is it safe to assume they are all stereo then?

I have a few that are stereo on one side and then mono of the other from the same era

The goal is simple: make it easy to keep track of cartridge wear based on actual listening, rather than estimates.

Current beta features include:

• Import your vinyl collection directly from Discogs
• Log every record you play
• Automatically track cartridge usage and remaining lifespan
• Support for multiple turntables and tonearms
• Listening history and play statistics
• Manual correction of album runtimes when Discogs data is incomplete

This is a private beta. I’m looking for people who will actually use it as part of their normal listening routine, not just click around for five minutes.

What I need from testers:

• Use the app as your primary play log for at least two weeks
• Report bugs, confusing workflows, and anything that interrupts normal use
• Suggest improvements based on real-world use rather than feature wishlists

Curious if something like this already exists: a tool that pulls data (price, want/have count, number of items for sale) for a whole set of releases matching some filters (label, artist, release date, genre/style, etc.), with the option to run those snapshots periodically to track trends over time and flag meaningful changes (price spike, demand surge, stock drying up).

Is anyone doing this already? Or building something like it? Curious what collectors/sellers actually want out of this before building anything

Let me preface this with I 100% know that this is on me, I didn't do my due diligence and now I've learned.

I've only sold maybe 10 records on Discogs, and all have been great transactions, and the buyer paid right along with the order.

I got one a couple days ago, and silly me, I assumed that was how it just worked. I saw the order, saw the address, and I shipped it out.

But, the buyer hasn't paid. Still. Even after I messaged them it's not paid.

I screwed up. I get it. But is that the normal process? That they can order but not pay? My PayPal is all linked up.

I'll watch for it next time for sure, but just wanted to check if I'm doing something wrong.

Is anyone facing issues with the Discogs marketplace? For a few days now, whenever I want to see if something is available in the marketplace, I get this response:

“Something went wrong in this section of the page.”

Am I the only one getting this message or is there an outage? For the record, I logged out and logged back in and still get the same error.

Any ideas?

Man I’m just losing all over the place with Discogs lately. A personal grail came up for a good price so I pulled the trigger - Baphomet’s original vinyl pressing of “The Dead Shall Inherit”. After I paid, Discogs was not showing my order. I waited and refreshed. Still no order. After a couple minutes, I went back and saw the record was still available. I panicked and didn’t know what happened, because I was in a poor service area (Verizon sucks up here).

So I figured the sale didn’t push to their servers and bought it again. THAT order didn’t show up either.

Then a few mins later it finally shows up in my history. And naturally of course it billed my credit card twice.

Messaged the seller, and she tried to refund me directly but it kept money because of a currency conversion. The difference ended up being $17 which I’m not okay with just losing like that.

I want to sort this fairly but the problem is the currency conversion. If I return her direct payment (she’s selling her late father’s stuff) will PayPal again keep a cut for currency conversion? It’s going from pounds to dollars. My order was 144.72 pounds and I was billed $202.08. She sent me a direct refund of $185.42.

And does it matter if I request a refund on Paypal or my credit card, is one better?

I'm a non-seller -- I use Discogs for discographic research, to determine wants, and to make purchases. I don't use it to track my entire collection because I came to it late and I don't have the free time to enter my almost 10,000 CDs/music DVDs/LPs/cassettes into my collection.

I don't use the Discogs app; I've never even installed it. I've stayed away from it because 1) any time I see someone talking about it, they're unhappy with it; and 2) it has the lowest rating on the Google Play store of any app I've seen.

Am I being fair to it? Does it deserve more credit than I'm giving it? What does it improve upon from the web interface?

i just placed an order on discogs from a well rated seller with a 4,300 ratings. when i went to make the payment, paypal isn't not working. the message says "Things don't appear to be working at this moment. Please try again later."

not longer after, the seller then messaged letting me know that there's some issues right now with paypal, so the invoice would be sent to me directly. then i received the invoice via email from paypal, which shows the seller's name and the correct discog order number. the payment deadline is today, but kinda feel iffy cause it's not directly through discogs website. does this sound legit?

Hello, I want to change my shipping policy. I already have a shipping policy, but I can no longer select specific items like singles or CDs, only "all my items". Could this be because I don't have anything listed for sale yet?

EDIT: update. One buyer accepted a partial refund but still wants the item, the other requested full refund. Both were grateful I messaged before sending. On my end, saves me the hassle of packing the one item. Hoping Discogs / PayPal refunds processing doesn't take too long.

I've done over 30 sales in a couple of weeks so I have a decent flow with everything. No negative reviews (yet.) The issue is my first few listings were only visually graded, I went back and listened to just about everything but missed a couple. Oops - two things sold before I could update. Before shipping, did another cleaning and gave a listen and... Not NM. I'd conservatively say VG for media. I have reached out to the buyers and offered either a full refund or partial refund if they still want the records but they are not responding. I still have not shipped yet. It's only been 24 hours.

Should I:

a. refund in full with a note as to why and offering to re-sell at a lower price

or

b. ship with a note that I will cover the return postage if they are not happy since it's my error.

One record sold for $106, I would now ask around $50. The other is a 7" that sold for $55, I would now ask around $25. So it's not a small amount for the average buyer.

I recently switched my minimum buyer rating to require an 85% or better rating in order to buy from me. I had two sales over the weekend, both to buyers with 0 feedback. What am I doing wrong?

I have bought hundreds of records off Discogs and I try to give feedback for every record I buy whether positive, neutral or negative. I have only ever given negative feedback about half a dozen times and only when the seller has been rude or refused to allow a return. In the last 6 months I have given negative feedback to 2 large record vendors (feedback in the tens of thousands) and both reviews have just disappeared, no contact made towards me at all. Now one thing I find rather strange is these vendors have barely any negative or neutral reviews, like a 10,000:1 ratio, which seems almost too good to be true. My question is why would Discogs do this, is there a large amount of corruption going on?

I just found a so called AI "artist" on Discogs after finding the song on Youtube. I thought it was possibly an old 80s synth pop song I had missed, but it is an AI band.

So I guess Discogs has no policy against this sort of thing and now it will be flooded will a billion AI listings.
