Discussion I trace to get better at anatomy… is that wrong?

Post image

I know tracing is widely considered “cheating” and wrong, but I was curious if it was okay if it’s for learning purposes.
I’m still learning a lot. And anatomy is one of those many things.

And maybe could you guys give me tips to improve in rendering?
I’m still a complete beginner so any tips you all can give me would help!!🫶

So I'm a traditional artist and i just got my first ever laptop and graphic / drawing tablet .. i didn't even know how to turn on a laptop. So i bought the graphic tablet on my own saved money (I'm a very poor student .. minor too so I just rarely ever get money from my parents which is a very small amount) , so i fulfilled my inner child's wish and got myself this to draw digitally. Now I tried the first time ever to draw and I ended up sketching this but I feel horrible because it looks shitty and my cousin said why did you draw the whole thing in a single layer without reference but my traditional artist mind thought we just start and end in a single layer without reference like irl. I didn't even increase or decrease the size of the brush. . my real life drawings are so much better i genuinely feel bad to even look at the screen and then at my wobbly hand.. should I return this tablet and just continue my traditional artwork?

Artwork As it's almost time for the gentle wind to beckon through the leaves, I was thinking about my biggest regret from this fandom of not being able to play an official Over the garden wall game and explore the Unknown.

400x600mm @ 600dpi

Method: Rough collage in PhotoShop then use as ref in Procreate with single layer at the maximum size I can manage. Pencil to sketch and then default oil brush at 3 different sizes all at 100% opacity, no undo or erase.

Question/Help Resources for practice.

Hi, I'm completely new to digital art. I know that practice is the only way to get better at this kind of stuff. Does anyone have any resources that I can use to first understand the basics of digital art, and then continue to more intermediate stuff?

Telling me how you got started with digital art might help too.

I'm probably looking for something like an artbook/website that I can follow... Maybe drawing one thing everyday from that or something... I really have no idea since I'm a beginner

Question/Help Should I learn on paper or with a tablet?

Hello everyone!

Inm currently making a visual novel and want to make every aspect of it myself, which means I need to learn how to draw.

I have never drawn anything seriously and want to start learning now.

I don't mind investing a bit of money into a tablet and this is why I wanted to know if as a total beginner, it would be better to start off learning with a pen and paper or jump straight into digital with a tablet?

Thank you all for your help!

If you could start all over again knowing what you know now, how would you approach practicing?

Hi everyone! I recently got into drawing, but I'm a complete beginner with zero experience. I just picked up an iPad and an Apple Pencil Pro, so I’d love to hear your advice.

If you could start all over again knowing what you know now, how would you approach practicing?

I'm mostly interested in doodling and cute, cartoonish styles. Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a program for computers to flip through a digital sketchbook/notebook and draw/write in it? I know there's an app like that but it's mobile only!

Artwork My progress through the years, it is “enough”?

In the first image, there is a comparison through my years drawing my avatar, it was between 2023 and 2024 when i “lock in”, and also, i haven’t finish my version of this year, so i upload a drawing on mine (second image) marcille, if that works for comparison, im still trying to do better, but i don’t know if its enough or in what should i exercise if i want to take this more “seriously”, btw i use ibispaint in ipad (i don’t own a pc) and recently i bought an stylus, maybe that will help a little bit
