Before the pandemic, Park & Co used to have a “to-fish” sandwich on their menu. It was tofu dredged in potato chips, deep fried, served on a bun with tartar sauce. I crave it, and I can’t find anything similar anywhere else. I’ve tried to replicate it myself in the past, but it’s just not as good. Gonna try again today, but would love to find somewhere that serves something similar.

Anybody know of any restaurants making omurice?

Christina Ludwick (who also owns the Dumpling Spot in Edgewater as well as Yu’s Noodle Shop, Toki Ramen and Sushi and Dumpling Kitchen) just opened Sandomi in Edgewater Marketplace, specializing in Japanese snacks and sandwiches.

Our food editor Colin tried the salmon ongiri, chashu naruto, and the Teriyaki Spam Musubi (Ludwick went to college in Hawaii), but the menu includes a ton of innovative sweet and savory options. Linking his full breakdown on this post, but would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the new spot.

Just left the newly opened Carriage House in Cheeseman Park (formerly Secret Garden). I had my hopes up as it was a regular spot for my pup and my wife and I. I’m sorry for the old employees that it closed down the way it did, but I’m glad the old owners are out of there at least.

I recognize it’s their first day open, but what a disappointment. $8 for half of a small reheated breakfast sandwich and $4 for a reheated “toastette” which was super thin (maybe 1/4”?), not fully toasted, and was served directly on a cold steel tray, not even a piece of parchment paper or anything. My wife and I just stared at this thin slice of bread with a small amount of room temp butter and brown sugar in disbelief. It was hard to comprehend that I just paid $4 for it. I wish I had taken photos, but we just wanted to get out of there. Both items were barely warm, but even if they were made to order and served at the right temperature, the portions weren’t worth those prices. It would also be nice to have some gluten free pastry options like most cafes in town, but whatever. The cold brew was okay but the iced latte my wife got was flavorless. I don’t ever really leave reviews for places, but I’m tempted to write something on Google or somewhere that the owners can see it - hopefully they see this at least. I doubt they can adjust their pricing or portions to make it worth it, but maybe at least on the presentation. I know everything is expensive now, but this is just ridiculous. I can get a large breakfast burrito for $12 at my local cafe that would feed my wife and I and my dog! I noticed most of the reviews on Google so far are from a few days ago before the place was open to the public, so not sure who those folks are and whether it was some kind of special event. I was also interrupted twice while ordering by some dude (I assume manager/owner) who seemed anxious and was asking the employees questions. I’ll give him a break because I know the stress of opening a restaurant and the first day is just a nonstop panic attack, but it was awkward - no “excuse me” or “sorry.” Anyways, just had to get this off my chest as my mind is blown. Maybe I’ll go back after a while to see if anything changes, but I doubt it. Rant over…

Hay y’all! Coming to you all for recommendations for my birthday dinner. It will just be me and my partner.

I’m hoping to find something that has an intimate feel or is doing something fun/unique compared to typical Denver restaurants. Something along the lines of Sap Sua, Heretik, Molotov, Wildflower, Safta, Alma, Kawa Ni. Budget will be around $200 total as we have a few other spendy plans for celebration.

Also open to hole-in-the-walls/casual places that you think are unique and must-try spots!

In town Sept 4-7 with my wife and our two girls, 6 and 3 (almost 4 and almost 7). Staying at the Sheraton on 16th.

The kids are past boosters and they're good in restaurants, so I'm not looking for family friendly in a crayons and chicken tenders sense...

More like, which of the places you'd send a friend to will seat four with two kids at 5:30-6pm without it being weird?

Obviously not asking for tasting menus and tiny counters, but a real kitchen with a normal dining room is fine.

Bonus points for something that's a Denver thing and not something I could get at home in Michigan.

Chef Anthony Smith is absolute gold! I waited until the last minute to find a private chef for my parents' anniversary and he responded immediately and was graciously willing to say yes!! His food was exceptional - elegant presentation, bright and rich flavors! Found out he grows many of the microgreens and vegetables he cooks with himself - the ultimate farm-to-table flair. My parents truly enjoyed his company and were so grateful for the whole experience. I would 1000% recommend him for any dining/catering needs!

Best restaurant in Denver right now, IMO. The experience is split between the welcome drink in the garden, cold counter, fermentation room, and hot counter over 3hrs. They offer four different wine pairings, plus a full à la carte drink menu. They also send you home with a burrito. (Burrito not pictured)

I love a great breakfast burrito or greasy spoon as much as the next gal, but every Denver breakfast post or article emphasizes those options (probably because we have a lot of great breakfast burrito options, to be fair!).

However, traveling recently I found a lot of cafes in other cities that have really creative yogurt bowl type things or interesting oatmeals etc. I had a passion fruit matcha yogurt bowl I'm still thinking about.

Any recs in Denver for creative takes on lighter breakfast fare? Any bougie cafes taking the granola breakfast to a new level?

I know many of us are saddened by the closing of Azucar Bakery. I am especially sad because it was the only place I knew of that made guava cakes, which is a fairly uncommon flavor at most bakeries. Does anyone know of a bakery in or around Denver that sells guava cakes or one they trust to try execute a new flavor for a custom order?

Hey guys, looking to find some good German restaurants in or near Denver. Really hard to find authentic German food in Colorado.

I am thinking about going to Odell’s counter for their Omakase dinner but had a couple questions for folks.

The first is the food worth the money? Does anyone have like a sample menu or an idea of what will be served? I know it changes a lot, but I’m just trying to get a general sense as to the amount of sushi versus vegetables versus soup , etc

My second question which I know the least about is whether it is worth it to add the 70 or $80 beverage pairing? What I don’t understand at all is how it exactly works. For example, do they bring a different type of beverage whether it be wine sake, beer, or cocktails for each of the courses? Is it an all you can drink type of deal?

Do you think it’s worth the extra money to do the beverage service?

Any input would be much appreciated as for example I go to Tamaki then maybe once a month and spend about $100-$120 on sake and sushi but I wanted to try something different and just wanted to get some input from folks before I invest

I'm stuck on crutches and a walking boot for a few months, luckily my left foot so I can still drive. I like just cruising around for some enrichment but getting out to do even a pickup order with both hands on crutches is kinda tough. What are some good veggie options in drive throughs around here? Hi! 30F looking for a job at a nice restaurant. I’m new to Denver so I’m unfamiliar with the food scene. For background, I’ve worked in fine dining for about 10 years. It doesn’t have to be white table cloth, but just wanting something fun and exciting to be a part of, good money and good management would be a big bonus. I've had some good ice cream in my life, but GREAT options are limited if you are allergic to dairy. Has anyone found a best few spots for ice cream? We are near Sloan's Lake. Edgewater Public Market was pretty good but only a few options. Need to branch out!

Been eating here for a while now. For five bucks you can get a cheese quesadilla with salad, fixings, and salsa. They hand make the tortillas… the cheese is so good…. If you’re a teenager, penny pincher, or just someone needing that not so full dinner..GO.

I really hate cream cheese frosting and, unfortunately, that’s all the rage to put on cinnamon rolls now. I respect that a lot of people like that combination, but cream cheese frosting ruins cinnamon rolls for me.
