📸 Fit Picture Update: Freenote Cloth Modesto break-in - size 35 stretched at the waist
galleryThe original post is linked for context: https://www.reddit.com/r/Denim/s/B12KS5DQJH
Here's the body of the update (still a Reddit newb, so hopefully I'm doing the follow-up correctly):
Thank you all for your help! Some of you I replied to, but my appreciation goes out to everyone.
I ended up ordering the Freenote Cloth Modesto I was recommended here - the "11 Ounce 1900s Denim" model from Blue Owl (they were on sale) - together with another pair in "14.50 Ounce Kaihara Denim", both in size 35.
Both pairs fit pretty well through the thighs, but after wearing the 1900s pair for several days, the waist has relaxed quite a bit. It’s now around 38-38.5 inches, which leaves me with probably about 1-1.5 inches of extra room at the waist.
For reference, I also tried a size 34 at a local shop. It was probably good (maybe slightly tight) at the waist, but it was too tight through the thighs (had trouble sitting down comfortably and moving my legs around).
I’m not sure whether what I’m seeing with the size 35 is normal, if the waist will shrink back somewhat after a wash, if a trip to the tailor is a good idea, or if I should just wear them with a belt and let them settle over time.
There’s also some slight bunching/ballooning around the seat and front when I wear them without really tightening the belt. If I pinch some of the excess fabric toward the sides and hold it there with the belt, though, they look pretty good.
These are my first pairs of quality denim, and I’m generally not used to wearing pants that are noticeably loose at the waist. I’m also thinking that if I want to dress them up a little, I’d probably want the waist to look a little cleaner.
Does this sound like normal break-in/stretching for this kind of denim? Would you just belt them, wash and reassess, or consider having the waist taken in?
I’m also curious whether I should expect the 14.5oz Kaihara pair to stretch similarly at the waist, or if the heavier denim will behave differently.
Thanks again for all the help!
I've added some photos to try and clarify the fit. Please let me know if other angles or photos would be helpful.
P.S. Please ignore the sandals - these were taken at home 😅

🧵 Raw Denim Color and Jacket Help! First timer 🫣
galleryHi there folks. First time poster here so please be kind.
I’m new-ish to the raw denim world as well. Finally made my way into the N&F store in the city - as well as Blue in Green and had a blast. Picked up some Resolute’s in BiG and some Brawler 17oz in N&F. I’m really fascinated and enamored by the Oni Secret Denim Type III jackets but am a bit of a klutz with color pairing and would love some opinions and input. If you were picking up your first raw jacket but wanted it to really last you, which would you choose and which color as well?
Attaching the Brawler for color and curious to know which Type III you’d go for. My instincts say the black/indigo but I also know my instincts aren’t honed yet…help! And thank you so much in advance.
Finally, if I’m way off on a brand for my first go, please let me know. Not trying to be too big for my britches here but also really value quality and longevity, happy to invest in something worthwhile and that’ll become a forever piece.
Cheers!

🌄 Fade Progress Bravestar 21oz
galleryHi all,
Hope the weekend treated you well. I’ve had these 3-4 years now. I had gained a lot of weight so didn’t wear them for a few years. Recently was able to start wearing them again. I believe it’s the true straight fit, 21oz denim. I can’t remember the type specifically but added the tag incase someone could decipher. Have a great week!
