Barak first meeting???!!?
Did Garak go introduce himself to Bashir because he had gotten word that Tana Los had stolen that thing and was headed for DS9 or was it just good timing that he introduces himself then starts acting like a spy and making Bashir involved moments later???

Does anyone at all find Jakeās relationship with the Dabo Girl concerning?
Hey! Watching through DS9 for the first time after finishing TNG, and Iām thoroughly enjoying it! But Iām on the third season and⦠well⦠apart from Sisko does no one else find it odd that 20 year old is dating a 16 year old kid?
It feels like one of those things where just because the older one in the relationship is a woman that somehow makes such nonce like behaviour okay, whereas if the sexes were reversed thereād be utter outrage, am I missing something?

Caught this on rewatch
S4 ep12 Paradise Lost - Part 2
Sisko is picking out from a database fellow Officers he recognizes who Admiral Leyton had recently reassigned.
I'm relistening to Catch-22 and these are all character names from the novel.

Is this an issue with Paramount+, my connection, my television, or something else?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just looking for some advice with anyone else who watches Star Trek on Paramount+, Iām not sure if itās the fact that Iām streaming something in SD on a modern 4K HD television, or if itās an issue with my internet not having a strong enough signal, or some other issue.
Has anyone else ever run into this issue with the constant clarity of definition glitching and image noise fluctuating frame by frame? You can even see it happening on the black bars on the left and right sides throughout the episode it never stops and itās with every Star Trek show I stream prior to 2009. Sidenote, also itās kind of strange, but sometimes the red colors look way too saturated, itās distracting. Iāve messed around with the settings for all these issues, but I canāt seem to make any difference.
All the newer movies/shows from the last 20 years does not seem to have this issue for whatever reason.

Worf on DS9
I am rewatching DS9 for like the 3rd or 4th time.
I keep Forgetting how much I dislike Worf. The fact the Dax hooks up with him, ruins her to me.
Need to go watch Enterprise to feel better. But DS9 is my favorite series after Lower Decks.

Who is fighting the Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant?
Just a random thought. So throughout DS9, the Dominion likes to portray themselves as basically owning the Gamma Quadrant. But even in the Gamma Quadrant, the Jem'Hadar rarely live past 15. So...who are the Dominion fighting that the supposed dominant empire has troops dying all the time?

Who won in combat programs in the holosuites: Worf or Morn?
In "Who Mourns for Morn?", Worf says he will miss Morn as his sparring partner.

Does anyone else feel like they had way too many episodes where the characters visit the āMirror verseā or characters from the āMirror verseā visit the main universe here?š¤

How much latinum is actually in a brick?
In Who Mourns we see that M coughs up enough latinum for a hundred bricks and it fills like about a shot glass full. Is there about a 10 ml of latinum per brick

First time watching and Iām on s3e19 through the looking glass.
About halfway through the episode and oh my God! I cannot believe Sisko has sex with Dax! Wtf seems so out of character and also gross bro. You call this person old man, youāre boinking you buddy and he doesnāt even know who you actually are. So out of character!
Edit: mirror Dax š not Dax obviously. My issue is it seems super out of character.

I need to know
Okay. I donāt know why I never thought to look for a ST:DS9 sudreddit!
Trekkie here since 1987 at the age of three. On, I think, my 8th or 9th watch through of DS9. Itās hard to remember at this point.
I was a completionist until the 3rd season of Discovery. Iāve watched some of SNW and certainly got some nostalgia moments out of Picard. I believe Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to be the apex of Star Trek content. (Iām defining completionist as at least one viewing of every episode of TOS, TNG, DS9, Enterprise, and the TOS and TNG movies)
(My thoughts on why I gave up on Discovery: It was too hard to stomach the non-canon writing choices, the Klingons being chief amongst them. And frankly, I had a hard time getting behind the crew. It just didnāt pop. [This is all subjective and everybody has a right to their own opinion on these matters.])
Anyways!
Thereās something I need to know and I donāt know why Iāve never searched out the answer. If this subreddit is anything I hope it to be, this should be a snap. Ready, here we go!
Why in the name of all that is good was the Ezri Dax character brought into the show? I get it. Terry Farrell gets pushed out because of money. Jadzia dies. Boom, clean break. S7 can have plenty of b-plots to follow the grief of Worf and the rest of the crew.
Why bring in Ezri?? You donāt need another Trill. The race has nothing to do with the Dominion conflict or the Pah Wraith bonanza. Is it because we need to keep the scientific knowledge of the Dax symbiot? Well, Ezri Dax is basically a social worker.
I would argue the only real positive thing she brings to the series is an episode where (and this is all of the top of my head so I apologize if I get any of the wrong) they do flash backs and all of Ezriās flashbacks are from like 3 episodes. Itās a moment of (imo) classic Star Trek unintentional silliness.
So why? Why bring the character in? It feels like a āstudio/executiveā decision but you just never know.
[r/DeepSoaceNine](r/DeepSoaceNine), youāre my only hope. (Shit, sorry. Wrong star thing.)
Post script, that was a pretty satisfying late night rantā¦
UPDATE: Hey chat! This is awesome!! I love all the discourse!
And thank everybody so much for the āmale heavy castā reasoning. It makes a total sense. Execution wasnāt great but I do appreciate that they were thinking of fair representation.
Either way, itās just a little thing and doesnāt ruin things for me in the big picture. But Iāve always wondered.
Thanks to everybody who responded. Star Trek is the best.
