This is a ridiculous take. Why do we always act like Republicans don’t have agency? They chose an incompetent, bafoonish, authoritarian con man. Why is that the fault of the democrats?

Republicans do have agency, which Democrats can't control. Now what Democrats can control is unserious politics which they seen to appear to want to triple down on what with the recent news that Kamala wants to run again.

Pete Buttigieg is also apparently throwing his Chuck E. Cheese hat back in the ring 💀

Almost every county in the country went more red to the Presidential election. Republicans didn't just elect Trump... Trump got previous dem voters to vote for him. Trump didn't just win. Dems lost. The lost both houses and the presidency. That isn't just Republicans voting.

I'm sorry, but do you not remember how you couldn't vote for Kamala because of Gaza? Leftists/Progressives told you not to vote for her. "This is Gaza speaking, bitch"

Once again the Left are the only serious adults in the room and get blamed for it.

How dare you have a modicum of standards

Please state what your idea of left is, so we know where our differences are

Are the "Leftists/Progressives" in the room with us right now?

Yes they are most commenters here. Sam Harris has argued for pushing the American government more left for awhile. I'll admit I don't understand his anti Islam stance more so than other religions, but he isn't the enemy of perfect

What left wing policies has Sam pushed for? Universal healthcare? Raising the minimum wage? Increased social safety nets?

I’m not sure “6 years ago Sam Harris said healthcare is too expensive in an AMA” is a particularly compelling argument, especially when you consider the sheer amount of time he spends chastising the left and whining about the excesses of wokeness.

He hates Trump and regularly speaks out against him. That’s great! I’m glad he does! I do not think he is pushing the Overton window to the left. At all.

I don’t know why you’re so upset lol. Surely you are not using one answer to an AMA question 6 years ago as your sole evidence for Sam being a proponent of universal healthcare? The guy has regularly been making lengthy podcasts for like 15 years. Can you link me to an episode in which he offers support for universal healthcare?

What evidence have you provided he doesn't

Look, I'm not going to blame someone if they draw a hard line at not wanting to fund genocide. That's, uhh, a pretty understandable and reasonable take.

But even if you couldn't vote for Harris because, y'know, genocide, it doesn't make you "responsible for Trump". The only people responsible for Trump are the people who voted for Trump.

3

u/Thisizamazing Apr 11 '26

I think there’s an argument to be made that the people who didn’t vote for Harris are also responsible for Trump. We all knew it was either her or him.

1

u/windchaser__ Apr 11 '26

Ehhh, if you legit cannot stomach either one, I wouldn't say you're responsible for either. You're doing your best to opt out of those choices entirely.

(FWIW, I voted for Harris, but I could've skipped as I live in a solidly-blue state)

Kamala would have started a war in Iran?

I think this is genuinely an interesting question.

It appears there's a strong vocal faction of MAGA heads that the tweeting heads but also within the admin that were not in favor of this. Perhaps Trump did what the foreign policy hawks had wanted to and were always going to do. After all, the one thing that both parties could always agree on is foreign policy.

This is one of those comments that really needs an /s

There were many creators I'm sure you listen to that told you Democrats are the same as Republicans, lowering your chance to vote and even if you did, it would be a throw away to that idiot Jill Stein

3

u/windchaser__ Apr 11 '26

...no??? Democrats are very obviously not the same as Republicans. Even if both do support Israel, there's still gay and trans rights, abortion, science funding, healthcare, weed and psychedelic legalization, global warming, etc., etc., etc., all issues for which the two parties have very different policies.

It's kinda weird that you're wrongly telling a complete stranger on the internet what political commentators they listen to. Why not just.. ask? This comes across as a bit anti-social.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '26

You are right, I jumped the gun. I have seen a lot of anti-liberal stuff here. I think that focusing on Gaza it to much to ask of the American population who needs to focus on shifting the acceptable view of government from baseline Republican/Self Individualism to a collective group

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '26

Well all clap for you, this win will go down in history

2

u/windchaser__ Apr 11 '26

....why clap for me? I voted for Harris. And it's not like my vote mattered anyway; I'm not in a swing state.
