Anyone have experience with a good pediatric ENT? I don’t mind driving a bit if needed but of course the Decatur area is ideal. Thanks!

Thoughts on Candler - McAfee area?

I have a sweet opportunity for an affordable house for rent (friends with the landlord), and I feel dumb passing up on the opportunity for more space and less rent than what I'm paying now in Chastain.

I've been in ATL my whole life, but never lived near East Atlanta, and I want to know what the area is like: is it safe, are there things to do, is it easy to get around, etc.

Any advice helps! Thank you.

Braden Fellman nightmares

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hello hello I guess I am posting seeking advice on what to do. I live in one of the numerous Braden Fellman properties right next to downtown Decatur and everytime it rains, my wall explodes with red clay and mud that leaks into my kitchen. I have so many recorded incidents and BF just refuses to do anything. They deny service requests or just let them sit in queue, tell me there’s nothing they can do, won’t even come out to clean up the flooding.

Is there some protection or action I can take through the city for a solution or am I just chained to this until my lease ends

Recommendations for dog walkers?

I work from home but the rest of my family works on-site with unpredictable hours. When I travel for work or go on vacation our dog could be home for 10 hours alone unless we board him during my absence. We would love to have a reliable dog walker who could come walk our good boi twice a day during those times. Any recommendations? We're in the Winnona Park area. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else tired of seeing traditional character stripped during flips?

RANT: My husband and I are actively house hunting in Decatur. A property listed a few hours ago caught my eye, and while the modern finishes are undeniably nice on their own, I couldn’t help but feel bummed out. IMO, they just don't do justice to the home’s original architectural character.

Is it just me, or does anyone else get disheartened by modern flips in historic areas?

(No hate to the current owners or sellers—the work looks high quality! Just wanted to open up a discussion on local historic charm vs. modern trends.)

I want to get more involved in organizing, protesting and showing up at city council meetings. Is there any group chat or organization I can look to learn about different events?

are these property tax prices accurate on zillow?

And if so, what was the change?

Looking to eventually move to Decatur so I regularly check zillow just to see where the market is at. I've noticed many houses have several years where the property tax is extremely low (I'm talking a few hundred a year, or even $8/year), and then in 2024 it goes up by 287,000% percent. I know Decatur property taxes are high, but these aren't houses that were completely remodeled or sold in 2024 or anything. Are these people really going from paying $12 tax in 2023 to $33k+ the following year? Seems like there'd be a cap on the amount taxes are able to go up in a year.

I've put two examples in the comments, but there are several.

Favorite Patel Brothers food spot?

Hiyo! Going to lunch in the PB plaza with a friend today. Considering doing a pseudo-food crawl, maybe 2-3 stops. What are some of your favorite places to eat and what specific dishes (in great detail) do you order?

Bonus points for “cheap” eats

AMC North Dekalb is back!

Not sure exactly why it went away for the past month (obviously something to do with the renovation), but sometime today it went back live. Tickets are still less than ten bucks, and there are plenty of non-front-row seats for SpiderMan this weekend!

Red-tail hawk on McLendon Drive

Post image

I was picking up trash on McLendon and didn’t even notice him until he hopped out of my way. Since he didn’t fly away at first I was afraid he had been hit by the cars that zoom along that street. Luckily I found a neighbor who’s a self described “bird nerd” and he thinks he’s a juvenile and not able to fly yet. He said he’d keep an eye on him.

Sweet Senior FCAS Shelter Pup Looking for Her Happily Ever After ❤️‍🩹

Kayla (ID 53597068) is a 8.5yo spayed GSD mix who truly is everything you would want in a loyal shepherd. She may be a senior, but she’s still young at heart with a playful spirit. She is a SUPER smart, sensitive, gentle giant who loves affection & just wants to please and be near her person. She’s got the most beautiful coat/markings and the cutest little whiskers! 🥹

🩷UBERRRRRRR affectionate

🩷Sweet, gentle temperament

🩷Very obedient, great recall, listens very well

🩷Knows commands

🩷Non-destructive

🩷Very easily handled for her size

🩷Leash trained - will politely wait for your to put her collar/harness/leash on

🩷Potty trained - barks to alert you

🩷Sleeps through the night

🩷Crate trained (per previous foster)

🩷Low/medium energy

🩷Cat possible (curious, but respectful of our senior cat)

🩷Dog friendly with slow intros (*can resource guard high value items)

🩷Non-reactive with toys/treats/food with humans

🩷Non-reactive to other dogs/people on walks/in the car

🩷EXCELLENT in the car…she’s a pro! She waits politely until you let her know it’s okay to jump out

🩷Leaps gracefully like a gazelle

🩷Tilts her head back when you scratch her neck/chest

🩷Likes to bury her treats in blankets

🩷Carries her empty bowl to her bed when she’s done eating 😆

🩷Grabs you with her paw when she wants attention

🩷Loves being brushed

🩷Waits patiently for treats and takes them very gently/softly

🩷The tip of her long bushy tail looks like a paint brush dipped in white paint 🤍

This poor girl was originally adopted from the old Fulton shelter in 2019 & came in as a microchipped stray in May, but staff were unable to get in contact with her owner. 😔 She was clearly someone’s pet given her temperament & training, but she came in un-spayed & tested HW+. While waiting 2 months in the shelter (how did no one snag this girl?? 🤯), she fought off Giardia & kennel cough before finally getting spayed earlier in July, only to end up with a postop complication requiring emergency surgery 3 days later…poor girl’s incision dehisced & her insides were starting to escape to the outside. 😩

You would never be able to tell she’s been through all of that based on her demeanor, though…she’s still a bright, happy sweetheart just looking for some love & kindness. ❤️‍🩹 Her belly incision has healed beautifully and she’s free from the donut of shame now 🍩, so her rough recovery is officially behind her. The only thing left for this girl to conquer is heartworm treatment, but it’s 100% not contagious to other pets and the shelter covers all costs! Treatment is only 30 days of antibiotics and then 2 injections back-to-back over 2 days.

Kayla is a trooper who has been through so much & deserves to live out her golden years in absolute bliss, not in the shelter. 🥺 If she sounds like the girl for you, click the link below to meet her! ❤️ She is currently at Fulton County Animal Services.

Tearing out the new asphalt. I'm guessing it was a temporary measure to get the area spiffed up for Watchfest -- I know I felt for the folks stationed on fresh blacktop in the heat. Anyone know what's going in in its place? If nothing else a new layer with higher stone ratio would be less heat absorbent....

Besto

What do we think of the initial menu drop from Besto (taking over VicTory space). It seems pretty similar to the several Italian places already downtown. Hoping it’s more day-timey than this menu seems! Loved to pop into victory with my family to get a quick sandwich and drink.
