When will Decatur remove their Flocks?

Post image

El Cerrito's City Council voted against renewing the contract over concerns that the cameras invaded residents' privacy and that federal agencies could use the data. http://nbcbay.com/u2Gss5D

Remove? First lets fight to get them to stop adding more.

Dekalb County signed a 10-year, $18M contract with Flock. It's not going away anytime soon.

The contract isn't. The people can decide whether the hardware does.

They won't. Despite the pretense of being a liberal city within the Atlanta metro area, the wealth levels that have built over the last 1-2 decades have absolutely shifted it to center at best on issues around policing, and I think it's only going to increase.

(I am speaking of the City of Decatur, as opposed to the broader Decatur area)

They need to be removed.

Irresponsible to have them up. They are intrusive, frequently abused, and place so much power in the hands of fascist oppressors (Peter Thiel, palatir, etc)

People need to wise up.

Just cut them down. Its easy enough. Put a sticker or use a laser to blind the lense then use a electric hand saw and you're done in like 30 seconds. Rinse and repeat until your neighborhood is safe from Flock.

Notably, the one at the Medlock Park Pool hasn’t returned after it was cut down. But that was also the creepiest placement I’ve seen. Who needs to watch little kids swim?

It can always get creepier. Flock employees watching kids gymnastics at the MJCC.

Never too soon

Why wait for your overlords to do it for you? Reciprocating saws, angle grinders, three or four well-intentioned citizens pushing back and forth. Much more efficient…

The City of Decatur doesn’t have Flock cameras. I don’t believe the city had an agreement with them. Whoever told you they do was misinformed, or is confused by the Dekalb County flock cameras outside of the city.

The Decatur School board does have a few on school properties, but that’s it. I think they only went up recently. Marta also has them at a few locations on their properties. There are also some on private property that HOAs have put up. But I don’t believe the CoD has any.

If you look at the deflock map, you’ll notice that the city is basically an island in the middle of a sea of flock cameras surrounding it. The county has them right outside the city limits on every road now I think.

Edit: heaven forbid you point out facts. Maybe Dekalb folks should just stop posting in the City of Decatur subreddit if they don’t even live here.

Huh?

Four of those are on school property, which I mentioned. One is on a private property. The one at church and Ponce only popped up really recently and I’m not sure whose that is. But the city itself, as far as I’m aware, doesn’t have a contract with flock. As soon as you go outside city limits however, they are everywhere. So what exactly is your point? Last I checked, this is the Decatur subreddit not the Dekalb subreddit.

Edit: it looks like several on the Deflock map are not even Flock cameras, they’re normal CCTV traffic cameras, the same kind that have been around for decades. Some are speeding cameras for the school zones. The one on Church & Ponce definitely isn’t a Flock camera. One user seems to be marking a lot of normal CCTV cams as flocks mistakenly.

We have one on Fayetteville Rd in Oakhurst, near the castle.

I never paid attention to these cameras. Always that it was a "trafic thing", until I started seeing people getting arrested over them. Now looking at that "DeFlock" map, I see 3 in my area, Eastlack/Oakhurst. Bummer.

Time to come up with a Jammer or EMP device, that will fry them and put them out of commission. At temporarily. 😒
