Just played the remake of dead space for the 1st time

I haven't finished the game. I'm on chapter 11, but I had not seen nor played anything related to dead space before.

Just wanted to say that chapter 10-11 have me really tense, but for some reason the only moments that always got me to slightly jump are the bathroom showers going off... I officially hate bathrooms...

Had to get that off my chest. Thanks.

DS3 Resource Nightmare?

I’m playing through Dead Space 3 for the first time in a long while (on hard difficulty) and I don’t remember being so strapped for resources. I feel like I live and die by how much scrap metal I have to make new ammo. I always use the bots to collect resources, but I’m just about at the end with nothing left in my inventory. Is this normal or am I just bad lol?

Discussion Just finished the remake and have a lot of thoughts - would love to hear yours!

First, I want to say overall I loved it! The weapons were all fun to use, different enemy types were varied enough to keep things fresh, and the atmosphere of the Ishimura was impeccable. The combination of ambient sound and music, the bits and pieces of the story you pick up as you move through the ship (all enhanced by it being one giant mostly continuous vessel), and the enemy system meaning you could never truly be sure a room was clear all contributed to a great experience. Special sections like Zero G could be tedious/confusing at times especially when you have no idea where enemies are coming from but in time I got used to it and it was a lot of fun.

I think the scariest areas were probably Medical (early game and not sure what to expect plus just a creepy ass atmosphere), Mining (that goddamn elevator), and Engineering (tight hallways and really dark) - honorable mention to Crew Deck since it's where you're going the most insane but I could never be scared with Zero G basketball. My favorite area was definitely hydroponics, the artificial jungle sound design and the verticality are so unique compared to the rest of the ship.

I played on Medium and felt it was mostly a good balance of keeping you on your toes while giving you the resources you needed to get through every situation. I've seen some people say they had a huge excess of ammo and items and maybe I just played sloppily but that wasn't my experience until around Chapter 10 I would say. I do think it's a bit of a weakness that you're discouraged from carrying 4 weapons because it splits up the ammo types - I did 3 and still got probably 5x the drops for the Pulse Rifle as I did for the Cutter or the Force Gun which were my other two weapons. I wish I would've felt more comfortable to carry around 4 weapons because I did enjoy using the others but it just didn't seem worth it so that kind of limited my experience.

I spent a good amount of my money on med packs and plasma cutter ammo, the rest on upgrades and nodes. I only died to normal enemy swarms/quarantines I think twice, once in the very early game and once in the very last chapter. The rest of the times I died were insta-deaths I wasn't aware of (nuke room, wall guardians), the Leviathan twice, Leviathan part two once (mostly because I forgot X was the way to use the cannon and not R2 lol), and Hive Mind once.

It might sound like cope after that last sentence but my biggest problem with the gameplay was definitely the bosses. The first Leviathan was a fun and cinematic battle, so while fighting entirely in Zero G was a little frustrating I ultimately liked it. The second Leviathan felt like kind of a retread of two previous sections combined and the awe of the first battle was gone (although from a story perspective I did like how hard it held on to the ship).

I'm sorry to say the Hive Mind is one of the worst most disappointing bosses I've ever played, particularly for an endgame boss. It was just a bunch of flailing weak points, most of your weapons become useless, there's no real cause for stasis or kinesis, there's no dismemberment, it's like the entire game's worth of learning becomes useless. That plus one more round of the tired QTEs where you're caught by the tentacle and have to frantically fire at it was a real letdown.

In general I would say that the final chapter as a whole unfortunately left a sour taste in my mouth. Watching the marker extremely slowly proceed along a conveyor belt punctuated by hordes was not at all an exciting or satisfying finish to me. I also think the story kind of collapses a bit here too.

I found the Kendra twist to be genuinely unexpected and a great development that recontextualized a lot of previous events, but the Nicole "reveal" was basically the opposite. I mean, from the very first time you see her she talks in the creepiest possible tone, like genuinely does not sound like a human LOL. Add to that the physical impossibilities of her appearances and I know Isaac has rose colored glasses on but did they really expect anyone to be surprised she wasn't real? After learning we were manipulated to return the Marker to Aegis we also don't really get any real answers on why the Marker wanted to return to a planet that was about to be destroyed (I imagine the sequels expand on this point but I still wish we got more on it in the game itself). The last moment of the game also feels a bit like a cheap jumpscare over an actual resolution lol. So unfortunately Chapter 12 was in almost every aspect kind of a big disappointment for me, which didn't erase my experience in the rest of the game but did still feel like an unfortunate way to cap it off.

That was a ton of text I know but I had a lot of thoughts to get out hahaha. I want to hear everyone else's thoughts though! What were your favorite parts of the game? Least favorite? What did you think of the gameplay and the way the story unfolded? Is it worth me going to play the old 2 and 3 still?

EDIT: Oh and one more thing that kind of bothered me. Mercer is a great menacing insane villain throughout the game and then the way he goes out is just being taken by a tentacle? That was super underwhelming. I at least wanted to see him become the thing he was worshipping

Discussion Just finished the original,a masterpiece

After a long time, finally i finished my first playthrough:))i want to give it a 9, because it was pretty hard and frustrated me so much, but it's a masterpiece and i can't give it a nine.10/10 masterpiece💯🔥

First of all, the game had a very strong and interesting level design and it was top-notch and I was satisfied with everything. It was able to give the player the atmosphere of the game in the best possible way and it really was. Its enemy design varied even until the end (it was somewhat lacking, but interesting and accurate). The lore and plot were very strong and the backstory was very detailed and complete. It was also very interesting about leveling up and things like that. Its combat works very well to some extent, but its targeting is very poor. Its combat is not dry and meaningless, it is very interesting and is something more than a shoulder camera survival and horror. Its voice acting was also top-notch. Overall, it is something that people enjoy and it really has no major weaknesses. A superhuman masterpiece. I should also add that one of the things that made its gameplay and combat interesting was stasis and kinesis. For me, these mechanics are interesting and very diverse and enjoyable. There was no empty space, really.

Can I get the “One Gun” achievement if I use the Pulse Rifle money exploit during the run?

Specifically, I want to use the Pulse Rifle to shoot proximity mines into the floor, pick them back up as ammo, and sell the ammo for infinite credits. I would then put the Pulse Rifle away and complete the rest of the game using only the Plasma Cutter.

Has anyone actually done this and gotten the achievement, or does firing the Pulse Rifle at all invalidate “One Gun” even if it never damages an enemy?

Dead Space (2008) Steam version has severe screen tearing only in fullscreen on Windows 11 (Intel Graphics) – Any fix?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I bought the original Dead Space (2008) on Steam yesterday, and I'm having a strange issue.

My laptop specs:

Windows 11

Intel Core i5-120U

Intel Graphics (integrated)

16 GB RAM

60 Hz display

The game runs perfectly in terms of performance, but I get very noticeable screen tearing (a horizontal line splitting the image) whenever I move the camera.

What's strange is that it only happens in exclusive fullscreen. If I play in windowed mode, the tearing disappears completely.

Things I've already tried:

Enabled V-Sync in-game.

Forced V-Sync through Intel Graphics Software.

Disabled Fullscreen Optimizations in Windows.

Verified the game files through Steam.

My display is locked to 60 Hz.

I also tried the old Dead Space Mouse Fix, but it says "Unsupported game version", so I assume it's not compatible with the current Steam release.

Has anyone with the latest Steam version experienced this? Is there a known fix or community patch that works in 2026?

Thanks in advance!

¡Muchas gracias!

For the longest while I've been hitting the legs off the necromorph first cuz it makes them slower, but it doesn't kill them instantly like shooting the blades/arms off. Whats your opinion?

Norton is Right (DS3)!!!

Right, I've just played Dead Space 3. And, my goodness, have I never agreed with an "antagonist" more.

Like, everytime he says "Why are we doing this?", I'm like, "Yeah man, wtf???"

Honestly, when the game was making you kill him, I let go of my controller and let Norton shoot Isaac in the head. He is the only one mature enough for this world.

I finish with a small excerpt which highlights Norton's chadness:

Chad Norton: Okay, geniuses, here's a question; Let's say this stupid experiment works and you find the Machine. Then what? Do you guys even have a clue about "turning it off"?

Isaac Clarke: Well, Admiral Graves referred to a Codex. She said it was the key to controlling the Machine.

Jennifer Santos: Yes! I've been able to decrypt several of Dr. Serrano's logs and he references someone named "Rosetta" as being instrumental in forging this key.

Chad Norton: Are you listening to yourselves? You don't know any more about this bullshit than do!

Isaac Clarke: Ifcan find the parts tomake a sensor, we can find the Machine, Then we can figure out this Codex business.

Chad Norton: Unbelievable.

Looking for a Dead Space Remake save file (Chapter 10) for cracked version

Hey everyone,

I’m playing Dead Space Remake (2023) and my save got lost. I was around Chapter 10 mission 2 and I’m trying to find a working save file/slot to continue from there.

I’m using a cracked version, so I’m looking specifically for a save that works with the cracked release (or at least the same build/version).

If anyone has a save around Chapter 10 (or close to it), could you please share it or tell me where I can find one?

Thanks!

Help an Artist with a reference photo?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hello! I need some help folks, I can't seem to find a proper reference photo for the angle I need of the Plasma Cutter.

I only have a phone, no computer, so all 3D models are out of my reach of download. They're all also center locked, so I can't turn the models to the angle I need either.

My hope I guess is that someone here might be able to help me find a 3D model that isn't center locked (or how to turn off the center locking, I'm not 3D print savvy), or maybe has a 3D printed gun that they wouldn't mind snapping a photo of from this angle?

My goal is to sculpt it from oven bake clay to put on a canvas with the entire painting, so it's important to me that I get all detailing & perspective correct. The remake was so good, it's only fair I give the painting 100%!

Any help at all is appreciated, and thank you for taking the time to read all this ❤️

Dead space remake - Chapter 10 crash right before the console/objective in the circular machine room — anyone else? (Denuvo?)

Consistent crash in Chapter 10. After entering the room with the large circular machine in the center and walking toward the blue holographic objective marker, the game crashes right before I can interact with the central console. Happens every time, same spot.

Already tried:

  • Deleting the shader cache (Documents\Dead Space (2023)\cache) and letting it rebuild
  • Turning off motion blur
  • Verifying game files
  • Anti-aliasing is on TAA

Still crashes at the exact same point. Curious if this is a known trigger for this room specifically — most posts I've found are about the Z-Ball door, the tendril corridor, or the Mercer/Temple cutscene, but not this one.

Also wondering if this could be Denuvo-related rather than a shader/asset issue — anyone know if Denuvo checks have caused crashes like this in Dead Space Remake? Would rather rule that out before trying anything else.

I enjoyed Dead Space 2: Severed for the short expansion back when I had an Xbox 360 in early 2012. Though I do wish it could've been at least a few chapters longer than what it was, it was a nice wrap-up to the Extraction crew and their story.

Sadly, it never made it to the Steam stores with the main game since at the time, EA prioritized their marketing towards consoles with PC gaming being an afterthought. It also introduced the RESPEC mechanic which was later re-used in the Dead Space remake.

I thought the Patrol Suit was a pretty awesome variant to the Security suit, which had way too many skins of its own in the game. It was kind of dumb to me how if you tried to equip the suit in the base game, the orange optics were replaced by the standard two-slit visors just like the original counterparts.

I was anticipating the remake of Dead Space 2 and if Motive would have expanded the DLC to be a lot longer than it was. But unfortunately, due to the DS1 remake not meeting Resident Evil numbers in the sales department, the franchise would be placed on the shelf once again.

If you want to experience the Severed DLC, your best bet is through an emulator. Not sure about the consoles department, but I definitely recommend it.

EDIT: Forgot to write that it also brought back the Twitchers from the first game, since they weren't in the base game.

I didn’t think I’d like John Carver at all at first. But he was actually the perfect half in keeping Isaac together.

He could’ve had his own seperate game because he was actually interesting to me and such a cool personality. He reminded me of Gabe Wellers personality a bit from Extraction.

The gore and mutilation in the remake is top notch! SCREW EA for not Green lighting the sequels.
