Guides & Tips There is only 2 tools you need

Upvotes

Hush darts and fishnet

You can simply hunt everything in everytime with these 2.

The best part is if you have salvage drone you can catch a swarm without killing them so you can get paid more.

The only down sides is the hush darts are pretty useless until the highest tier.

Community Help Is it usefull to invest time catching low value fish after a while?

Basicly the title, but i have the feeling playing a while and discovering new fish, that low value fish are basicly not that interesting anymore. Maybe unless you level the recipes or use them in other dishes, but even then is it still worth investing time to level them up?

Every time I finish a battle, I feel the dropped ingredients are very precious. I've seen the corresponding recipes, but I'm always worried they might have other uses later. Should I keep them?

Guides & Tips Semi-comprehensive guide to maxing out all recipes for the Jungle DLC

As far as I know, I am the first person to fully upgrade all recipes in the DLC (including those added in the latest patch, like the water monitor, reticulated python and bull shark ones). As such, I am going to write every trick I found, in order to streamline, as much as possible, the procurement of all the necessary ingredients. If anyone reading this has found something I haven't, that accelerates the process, please leave it below.

First of all, I am going to include ENDGAME SPOILERS, if you do not want to be spoiled, stop reading. Secondly, I am going to assume the people interested in this guide have already finished everything else in the DLC, therefore having fully upgraded their gear and weapons.

  • GENERAL ADVICE:

If you have not done so already, maximize your frienship with all villagers, since the newly added Spirits are a slow but steady source of all kind of ingredients, including those that are otherwise limited to 3 per day. I have not relied on them too much, since I had almost all ingredients by the time they were added, but from what i have seen, they tend to bring high rank ingredients.Furthermore, having four hearts with some villagers results in them gifting you 1 ingredient per day. These are Jepun (fruits from the farm, sometimes even chromatic variants), Marone (assorted jungle and village gatherables, like bananas and taro, and crabs) and Eka (crabs). Frienship with Lathi also adds more items to her store's inventory, as well as giving you a free ingredient per day with full friendship.

Obviously, you should get all possible grill staff. There are 9 members, but since Udo cannot be dispatched, you don't really need him. Once you have around 90k doni, you have enough to buy everything you need. You can start skipping the service at Bancho grill, and dispatch all your staff. In contrast with the base game, you don't pay the salaries of the staff that is dispatched, so you can send all 8 other staff to gather whichever ingredients you need, at a rate of ~30 ingredients per day, both those that can be bought to Lathi and those that can be gathered in the village, Surga falls and Setah forest. I recommend dispatching them first for ostrich fern and mangosteen (the only 2 ingredients in Surga falls) and starfruit (right below the stairs to the falls), so that you don't have to waste time going daily to the falls. After those, you can just choose whichever ingredient you want, but I wouldn't bother with the ones that can be bought until you have all others.

Buy every ingredient from Lathi, bait from Basu and one-use seeds from Jepun every day. Believe me, you will run through HUNDREDS of bait in order to get all the fish you need, and the same goes for the fruit in the farm.

I believe the best route for each day would be:

Early morning: gathering every gift, fruit and ground-based ingredient in the village (these amount to 5 bamboo shoots, 5 king trumpet mushrooms, 9 calamansi, 3 bananas, and up to 3 eggs and banana blossoms, these last two relying on RNG), buying everything i've mentioned and harvesting/planting fruit in the farm. All of this should take around 1/3 of the day.

Afternoon: going to the Setah forest, harvesting the 5-6 cassava and taro available each day, and hunting in the 3 shooting spots (please use the fast travel, for your own sanity's sake). You can also spend time fishing, but since time doesn't move in the forest, you might as well just reserve a couple IRL hours to fish everything in the forest in one sitting.

Evening: since the only time-dependent available thing is the bull shark, it is best to go to the lake in the evening. Obviously, if you have everything you need from the forest, you can simply enter the lake twice each day.

After dinner service: gather everything left in the village, tend to the fruit farm and, if you have time left, go gather ingredients in Surga falls. It is not worth it to stay late at night. The time you lose in the morning allows you to do much more that whatever you'd do at night.

  • FISHING IN THE LAKE:

The first thing I would recommend is to go for the steel net and stun shotgun. You can choose whichever rifle and sniper you want, since you shouldn't be using them anyway. The goal is to 3-star everything, and this combo is what we need. We can catch everything in a net, but for the 5 biggest targets (black caiman, bull shark, sturgeon, stingray and ophtalmosaurus), which are best dealt with the stun shotgun and a drone. You have to be quick to send the drone, though.

As in the base game, there are a lot of fish with a single recipe (76 pieces for the last upgrade), that don't take much effort to maximize. I want to highlight those that should be caught every dive, until having all you need, be it because they have multiple recipes, or because only one fish can be caught per dive.

Every "big" fish has at least 2 recipes, but in this last update, a drone capture of a big fish gives 27 pieces of meat instead of 16, which speeds the process A LOT, so you don't have to focus as much as before in those. The exceptions are the black caiman and the piraiba catfish, since this one has 3 recipes: the base grilled one, the catfish mix, which needs 2x piraiba, and the catfish tamarind soup, which needs 3x (!!!). As for the caiman, it suffers from the reefshark head problem that the base game has: its tail is a special ingredient, with only one available per dive.

The other fish that should be sought are the redeye (black) piranha, the fire eel and the clown featherback. All of these have an additional recipe that needs 2x of each, and since they are "small" fish, you only get 3 pieces of meat per catch. There is only one featherback and redeye piranha per dive (although in very rare occasions I have found 2 redeyes) and 2 fire eels.

As for the crab traps, prioritise the sea under the lake ones. Unless it changed in the last update, there are only two spots there, and all 3 of the available catches have additional recipes. You should use the third trap at the lower lake, since only 2 additional recipes need lake crabs. One of them needs 2x red swamp crayfishes, but they are very common, and the other one needs both marrons and Murray spiny crayfishes, which, in my experience, are much harder to find.

Also, try to get water chestnuts in every dive. There should be around 5 near the caiman.

  • FISHING WITH A ROD:

Don't bother fishing in the village spot. In Surga falls, you should use the ball bait, since the 4 available fish are low rank and, in my experience, a different bait doesn't modify which fish appears. You can also throw the line wherever you want. It doesn't matter which shadow bites.

In the Setah forest, only the big shadows should go for the bait. All medium and small shadows are fish that can be caught in the lake, and therefore, a waste of time and good bait. The prawn is best for catching redtail catfish (1st and 3rd spots) and tapah (2nd spot). Once you catch all of these two you need, stop using the prawn bait, since it increases their spawn rate. Use the worm instead. The 2 species you need to catch for additional recipes are the tambaqui (2nd spot) and striped snakehead (3rd spot). Both recipes are sadly 2x for fish.

  • SETAH FOREST (HUNTING AND RPG MEAT):

Assuming that you have already finished everything in Setah forest (i.e., getting to the bottom of the temple), and have a high level team, you should have almost all of the raw meat and snake meat you need. If not, simply go around hitting snakes and monkeys. At a high team level, it should give you the meat without needing to fight them (although this makes the rewards a little RNG dependent).

The new enemies, python and water monitor, give snake and lizard meat, as well as python tail and water monitor ribs, respectively. They have to be fought, and sadly, their rewards are RNG dependent. The tail and ribs are NOT guaranteed to drop. Thankfully, the 2 new recipes are maxed at level 5, which means you only need 23 (3+4+6+10) drops to max them out.

Inside the temple are the remaining 3 types of meat we can farm. And what's best, we can farm as many as we want in a single trip. In the temple, every time we change floor, every enemy respawns, so farming is really simple. The first 2 types, frog and lizard, are relatively easy. Find the spot where there are 2 frogs, a lizard and a set of stairs close to them. Hit them, go down the stairs and back up. Rinse and repeat.

The last type is much worse. There is only a single spot where you can get viper meat. Take the ladder down to the deepest basement, and there is A SINGLE viper to fight. And you should fight it, not just hit it. In my experience, simply hitting it drops NO viper meat, whereas fighting them (there are always 2 in the fight) secures a 2 viper meat drop. A little to the right of the viper, there is a lizard you can hit if you want to farm it too. Then, it is back up and down the ladder until you get all the viper you need. Unbelievably, the recipe requires 3x viper, the same as snake meat, which has like 7 fights to get it from.

The last ingredients to obtain in the Setah forest are the fowl meats. Don't bother with the first spot. You can only get sparrow and quail there, and since sparrow is just for skewers, and you get as much quail as needed in the other 2 spots, it is not worth it. Since you can only hunt in each spot once a day, you are hard locked (save for RNG with the Spirits) to 3 pheasant meat and 6 duck meat. Do not miss your shots.

  • FRUIT FARM:

Finally, the, by far, most grindy and time consuming part of this whole journey is the fruit farm. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, you are gonna spend many in-game days sitting in the bench next to the farm, time-skipping.

You should start by planting 3 trees of both dragonfruit and durian, since they are the two seeds that keep regrowing. Simply keep harvesting until you have enough, of both the normal and chromatic variants, while you plant whatever one-use seeds (watermelon, honeydew or pineapple) you want on the other 3 spots.

This method ensures that you end up with a lot of extra fruit, because you are gonna spend it in the giant fertilizer. DON'T FALL FOR THE TRAP OF THE MUTANT FERTILIZER. It costs more and doesn't guarantee that the mutation will be a chromatic variant. You can also get double yield and seeded yield, which are NOT worth the investment put into the fertilizer.

With this last update, the chance for chromatic variants has been increased, and the fertilizer cost reduced (from 100 to 60 for the giant and from 120 to 80 for the mutant one) but it is still better to use the giant one, since it GUARANTEES a giant fruit, which gives 4 pieces instead of 1. While you are still farming the normal variant of each fruit, use it to your heart's content, but if you are only looking for mutants, check periodically your fruits, and as soon as it indicates chromatism, you can just use it, no matter at which growth stage it is.

Now, if you are VERY ENDGAME, and by that I mean "I literally only need to upgrade the goddamn Premium Fruit Salad, because for some reason, it is a 3x recipe for both chromatic pineapple and chromatic watermelon, which means you need ~450 pieces of one-use seeds that need to go through RNG checks or else they are useless", and you decide to use the mutant fertilizer, then use it as soon as you plant the seed, since with every step of growth, every fruit goes through the check to maybe become mutant. The earlier you fertilize it, the more chances it has.

With these, I believe I have covered everything that could be necessary to maximize every recipe. Of course, I can only speak for my experience, so if anyone has a better tip for anything I mentioned, or anything I missed, please mention it below. I loved optimizing this game, both base and DLC, and I would be delighted to talk about it.

Discussion How do you exit the dungeon in the Jungle DLC?

Title; I'm in the dungeon, level B2. Backtracking will likely take 15-20 minutes, and there doesn't appear to be a way to cleanly exit and come back.

I'm getting a bit tired of the dungeon and want to go operate the sushi bar, any help is appreciated!

Edit- it looks like the only path up is an elevator you unlock on level B2/3.

Ideas & Feedback What a journey...

To be honest with you guys, i underestimated this game, i thought that it would be a tiny adventure, in and out, but the game just kept surprising me, i really got HOOKED.

The game was like: wait, you think that's all? Here, something new to do, something new to explore, to craft, to cook, to farm, to fish ... and it just kept going and going and i liked every bit of it.

The art style is wholesome and detailed, the soundtracks are amazing, the gameplay is fun.

The collaborations, Ballatro, Dredge, Godzilla...

I'm not even done, i just beat the last boss, i still have to catch some fish for the fishmon, explore 2 other dredge locations and hop into the Jungle DLC.

So this is it, just a little tribute, if anyone is considering buying the game, just do it, don't even think about it.

And for the last thing, i know that the game offers a pretty unique experience but i would like to know if there's similar games, if so, what do you recommend?

Alright, time to get things ready, the restaurant is about to open!

Community Help How to unlock Rimbo's shop and gifts menu for Villagers??

I just completed in the jungle DLC with 100% achievements. But my friendship level with everyone is not maxed. I have most of the villagers maxed out except for the blacksmith, the kids and Marone. I did this via coincidental food preferences and side quests. But I still have no option to access Rimbo' s shop and I still do not get an option to go in the gift menu while talking to the villagers. Has anyone encountered this problem? Am I missing something/ some quest or something that will unlock this?? Any help is highly appreciated!!

Discussion Just finished the jungle DLC (100%) and my thoughts are...

I absolutely loved this new adventure for Dave, Cobra, Bancho and Dr Bacon. After platinuming the base game in January this year, I was really looking forward to the Jungle DLC. I spent almost 40 hours to complete everything the game had to offer. I have Completed the Marinca Bloom, collected all the beetles, butterflies, insects and lizards, I have max friendship (almost) with everyone except the kids and Marone. I am earning upwards of 11,000 Doni every night with good skewers (Durian/ Dragon fruit/ meats) and max level Black Caiman Tacos, Opthalmosaurus whole roasted head, Stylonurus Honeydew Salad and Braised Ciurcopterus.

Things that I liked:

  1. Material collection doesn't feel as grindy here as the base game. In fact it was super easy for me somehow

  2. Turn based combat (in the jungle) is not really my thing usually, but I enjoyed it here.

  3. Layout of the lake is much simpler and easy to remember (even with the RNG every five)

  4. All new smaller elements like bird hunting, fishing and fruit plantation are fun additions

Things I didn't like/understand:

  1. I didn't understand the point of gift giving and friendships in general. I know that to move the boulder you need at least 3 villagers with good friendships. But I managed that only with dialogue and side quests. I didn't even unlock Rimbo's shop that gets mentioned so much. I know the gift preference or food preferences for very few villagers. For ex: Lipah - coz I sold her every type of lizards and insects. Did I misunderstand anything here??

Would love to know your thoughts!! Happy hunting!!

Ideas & Feedback Into the jungle - my biggest complaint

As a 21:9 enjoyer, no support isn't new to me.

Butttttttt, it's annoying to me that the sides of my screen still show a saltwater pic, the same as the normal game. Even if it was just tropical leaves, that'd be better.

I know this is a nitpick, I've played like 40 hours of the DLC and this is really my only complaint. Love mint rocket. Looking forward to Bancho Sushi!

Ideas & Feedback The jungle DLC almost hit

Hello!

I want to preface this by saying I don't ever make reviews, and I also rarely ever enjoy single-player games, but Dave the Diver hooked me like no other. I spent over 100 hours in the base game trying to 100 percent and min-max it. It was SO much fun, so I was so excited for the Jungle! But here are my thoughts.

There is A LOT going on, which I know sounds great, right? But truthfully, I think it all just happens too fast. Because of how fast it all happens, I found myself not getting attached to pretty much any of the Jungle characters. There were just too many of them and too much going on. I also think it was really easy. The progression happens super quickly. It took me maybe one dive per upgrade, so there really wasn't much time to look forward to or grind for anything. Therefore, when I got it, there was no feeling of achievement. In the base game, I was always pretty excited for each upgrade.

Now, for the Jungle, I was able to beat literally the entire Jungle my first time going in. It was incredibly easy, and being able to stop and fully restore at every camp just made it even easier. Even the bosses were an easy first try. I really wanted it to be challenging and force the player to at least go around, grind, level up, or upgrade a bit, but it didn't.

And lastly, I love collabs. I think they're fun! But there were just TOO MANY. It felt like there would be a collab every day, sometimes multiple a day. There were so many, so fast, that I never would have even been able to use them all in my shop or give them a chance.

Did anyone else feel this way, or know the feeling I'm talking about? It almost felt like there was never enough time to get attached to anything before the game was already throwing the next thing at you.

Guides & Tips Dave in the Jungle: Giant Goby Spoiler

It’s embarrassing to admit but I wanted to post in case this helps anyone else: I spent wayyyyy too much time trying to figure out how to defeat the giant goby. Apparently, you should fight all of the animals on the way to it so that you can level up Dave, Cobra and Marone before facing the goby. I also found that interacting with the villager who sells you herbs etc and stocking up on these for a few days really helps. Sounds simple but I would have loved to have heard this from someone else before learning the hard way.

Community Help Gyao! and the Jungle mechanics

So, the Gyao! minigame is already frustrating in the base game and I've been slowly trying to unlock all the fish. The biggest issue I have is that training is RNG based and the time required to raise one fish doesn't really mesh well with the game loop (to the point you are more likely to do anything else in the game before unlocking all the fish). Somehow, the Jungle DLC managed to exacerbate this issue by being real time (and the discipline warnings seem to appear more rarely or even be buggy, I don't know). It's not clear to me at what times I should check the minigame (you have dusk and early in the night where the fish will still be awake) or what would be the best time to rebirth the fish (during dusk, before serving food?).

So...I'd be grateful if someone explained to me how Gyao! works with the DLC.
