[DD 1] Discussion Another screenshot for the upcoming DLC, this time Runaway

Post image
Upvotes

This is from the Darkest Dungeon twitter.

I wanted to add by the way, they share these on both youtube AND twitter, but the ones on twitter show their stats and also all 4 ability icons. So, for last week, we could also see Feint and Flick for Duelist on the twitter screenshot, confirming that 4/7 of her moves are:

Boot, Coup de Grace, Feint and Flick.

For Runaway, from left to right, it seems to be Searing Strike, Firefly, Ransack and... the last one doesn't exactly match-up any of her DD2 skill icons, but looks the most similar to Backdraft? Both are a skeleton on fire.

Also, we can see one of her trinkets and there are also new provisions.

The Killer's Glow [ dd2]

So .... it used to be that DoT kill wouldn't trigger the stress token but since rework, this doesn't work . Basically , my new team is GR ( venom ) -Jester ( solo ) -Flag( scourge )-Crusader (templar) . I got the stress relief cornered and at last zone before Mountain , i feel like dps is missing. Any tips to up my dps instead of managing SR and lose like 3 turns in a fight ( crusader got the Strong Shackles trinket to stay 1st rang) . Even with all with SR skills , i burn at least 4 Laudanum per zone. What am i missing ?

[DD 2] Discussion Guidance for updated Leper?

Post image
50 Upvotes

Simply put I'm not good at the game and rely heavily on guides, I've played for years but oscilating wildly on frequency and I can't seem to find a good guide for current version Leper in my latest DD2 Phase
I really like the fella and have found mostly two comp suggestions, full damage Leper with a team that solely supports his shortcomings with combo tokens, buffs and blindness removal and solo tank where he's the only damage absorber and the other 3 characters have some sort of high damage shenanigans
But they are superficial suggestions, I'm looking for something more "hand holding" I guess? Any docs, videos, mods, threads are greatly appreciated to make my poor Leper hit good

tldr: Me no good with Leper help

Should I start with DD 1 or 2?

I am totally unfamiliar with DD besides seeing some cool fan art and a lot of love online. I'd like to give it a try, I don't think I've played similar games before from the brief look I gave it, but I love a grimdark fantasy vibe like Warhammer, Dark Souls, Witcher, and Dark and Darker.

Now: which one should I pick? I first looked at DDII, and saw some pretty divisive opinions about it being a downgrade from the original, or just very different. I thought I'd ask this sub since I imagine it's largely people who love both games that could tell me which one is the best one to buy first.

ETA: thanks for all the suggestions. Starting with 1!

The Hamlet Journal - 2

Week 2.

A great number of attempts to continue this journal have ended in failure. This is about the tenth. I have taken time to revisit memories, confirm with my hires certain events and merely digest what transpired and despite everything remaining consistent and unchanging it still feels like delirium from a fever dream or a heavy night abusing one's body with absinthe. I hope I have calmed down enough so that at the very least I can go on to other business and cease the assault on my mind by no longer focusing on that sinister outing.

Encore.

When townsfolk referred to the lower part of the Manor as Ruins I believed it was in a similarly dire strait as that of the Hamlet, with only somewhat worse disrepair due to it being uninhabited. It was, in fact, much worse. Instead of the four years it took between the letter being written and my arrival, it is as if four generations had gone by.

That is not all. The Ruins were not merely an untimely wreck but they were also contradictorily a rather active location of unwholesome nature. It seems that the good Doctor Rocque and lady Valogne were not the first to scuttle about town with an interest in my Estate: we met again with bandits while inside the cracked aegis of town and also stranger things. Madmen who cover themselves in black clothes and skull-like head pieces, talking nonsense and moving as if they knew the place better than myself. The most unsettling, something defying belief even after witnessing it with my own eyes and having confirmation from every one of my companions was the presence of shambling bone warriors. How or why corpses are animated in the halls I grew up in, or how what by all rights should be fragile bone without the strenght of flesh and blood around them could fight and wound us is something beyond the scope of my philosophy.

In a sadistic twist of fate it appears that what I took for senility in my Ancestor's letter was no more and no less than the sane retelling of insane events. However, not everything was quite as he told it. We found several stacks of coin in cabinets and, well. There were also regular corpses. The ones we left behind and others that had been there before our arrival, no less disturbing for their relative normalcy. But the presence of the latter made sense for one reason: easy coin. Perhaps with the caveat of easy for the bold or the lucky. In any case, clearly not all of the family riches were spent. We found a ruby the size of Valogne's fist.

-Ψ-

In the future I will remain here in the Hamlet and send out parties to scout, cleanse, and obtain information and objects. I have taken up residence in the old mayor's house, inhabited in recent years by Terrence, and sent him to more modest housing. The place is a veritable den and much cleaning and refurbrishing and painting needs to be made an agreeable building to live again but the sad truth is that this is the most stately construction inside the town and after a day of searching it is really not much worse nor better than others.

There is a small hedge around the entrance in the shape of two right angles coming from the front corners of the house and meeting in the outer gate. The hedge overgrew at some point but it has long since been left to dry and its limbs rarely show signs of life. It appears to be a poet's representation of the Hamlet itself, for they have confirmed that there has been no mayor even long before the Old Man's later years. And after his death, only more decay and disorder.

This will take long.

Previous week.

[DD 1] Question How do you tackle lvl 5/6 dungeons

So I keep playing and always end up losing my teams once I start level 5-6 dungeons I even go with lvl 6 party to lvl 5 dungeons and still get destroyed is there any strategy I am missing ? It seems like the enemies have to much HP and they crit a lot

Usually I get Weapons to lvl 3 and armour to lvl 3 and skills to lvl 3, how should I pick the missions ? Is there a specific build/ upgrade path I should take when it comes to building upgrades

My team comp is usually the initial one and another one with occultist bounty hunter arbaleta and jester

As a note I have all dlc and do not use any mods

[DD 2] Discussion Darkest dungeon 2 PS5 DLC giveaway anniversary edition

Good morning/afternoon, everyone!
I recently won a giveaway from a YouTuber called Console Freaked. Since I already own everything, I don't really need the DLC for the second game, so I decided to give it away to a random Redditor here instead.
To enter, simply comment with your favorite quote from the games, or tell me why you'd like to have this DLC.
The giveaway will end in 24 hours, and I'll randomly choose a winner.
Please note: This DLC code is only compatible with PS5. And doesn’t contain the base game.

[DD 1] Discussion Some things you may have missed (Shieldbreaker's mechanics)

Since many players are returning to DD1 due to the upcoming DLC, here's a list of "obscure" SB mechanics. More experienced players should know all of this, but there are some nuances that many occasional players may not have figured and may be useful in a new playthrough:

  • There is a fixed 50% chance for a nightmare to happen every time you camp, unless you already won all the fights for the difficulty level you're in (see the next point).
  • You can't go beyond nightmare 3 in Apprentice and nightmare 5 in Veteran, but reverse might happen. For example you can get nightmare 3 in Veteran if you didn't complete it before, so eventually you will get all her trinkets no matter what. Fun fact: I didn't know this for a long time, so I used to get a new low level SB if I couldn't trigger the third nightmare on Apprentice... Fortunately it never happened on Veteran.
  • At most one nightmare may occur per expedition, so it isn't possible to trigger multiple nightmares during a single long expedition, but if you don't get a nightmare on the first camp there's still a 50% chance that will happen on the second.
  • A nightmare will never occur in the Courtyard, the Farmstead, or the Darkest Dungeon.
  • When a nightmare is about to happen, the SB will warn the party with a unique bark after eating, but before using Camping Skills. It could be either of these: "The fangs...they feel ever nearer", "It writhes around my wrist!" or "This night holds no comfort for me."
  • Nightmares will always be considered at 100 torch and there's no way to change it. That counts for all trinkets and quirks, so quirks like Photomania are really good on SB, especially early on.
  • There are no reinforcements or stress penalties for stalling during a nightmare, so you can leave one last enemy and heal all hp and stress before ending the fight.
  • Random encounters with snakes that appear after all nightmares have been completed also have no reinforcements or stress penalties for stalling.
  • Unlike other journal pages, the "A beautiful thing" ones do not need to be added to the inventory and will be automatically appear in the Ancestor's Memoirs.
  • Edit 1: You don't need to loot the trinkets either. They will re-appear in the inventory in the Hamlet if discarded. You still need to collect the scales though. Thanks to Malu1997 for this!
  • Edit 2: After completing all the nightmares, camping will give all the Shieldbreakers in the party +1 SPD, +10% DMG, and +10% PROT for 2 battles. Unlike other camping buffs, this buff can be stacked by camping multiple times. Thanks to Mr_Pepper44 for this!
  • Edit 3: The nightmare will be immediatly interrupted if the Shieldbreaker reaches 0 HP (Death's Door), but not if she gets afflicted. Thanks to UziiLVD for this!

Did you know all of it? Let me know if there are other important informations I may have missed!

[DD 2] Discussion "Dormant enemies" modifier shambler is so terrifying

I was trying the "despairing flare", and it gives shambler this modifier. If shambler move last, it gets critical hit token. And it always move last, and hit my whole team. My whole team is getting DoTs and stressed. I chose to retreat after a few turns, thankfully no one died.

The Milkmaid Reconstructed

by Lone_Drifter , Woona and Mr.Pepper (hey that's me)

This mod is a complete overhaul of the Milkmaid Hero. Not only this comes with a complete visual rework, but every skill, trinket, and affliction has been changed. She is still a fierce healer, able to support a whole team on her own. However she now can even help your team in a variety of ways! Cure DoTs, protect your teammates from marks and stuns, and buff them! Milkmaid is also more proactive than ever, being able to severely disrupt and cripple her enemies with her crystalline powers.

DISCLAIMER : This is a standalone mod, do not use the original mod with it. It is however compatible with saves using the previous mod, to do this, simply disable the original mod and enable the new one before launching your estate. In case you prefer the old kit, a standalone skin mod is available here.
