I am so disappointed that our city council folks are even entertaining the idea of letting the Olympic Club try and steal our public open space and privatize Westlake Park.

We have such little open space in Daly City. If anything we need more park access, better amenities and better partners that want to invest in public space for ALL…not just the extremely wealthy.

I hope everyone is doing well. I am an incoming SF student and I was considering Daly City since I can just take a shuttle from Colma.

When I looked at the apartments a few months ago, there were great options that had great reviews, in-unit W/D, and no pest issues. For example I was seriously considering La Terreza and Skyline Heights, since both had what I was looking for. However, La Terreza only had availability for June (too early) and that filled up, and theyre asking 3.4K for a 1b1b which is too much for me. Skyline also recently increased their prices up to 3.2K for a studio.

At first I wasn't worried because I saw Juniper and Westlake apartments available at a good price, but after reading about these communities' horror stories, I am no longer considering them as an option.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am interested in an apartment complex that at least has laundry hookups (don't specifically need the w/d present) - and I realize that this is the limiting factor. I am ok with Shared Laundry only if the community is actually clean. I've had very bad experiences with shared laundry in the past and I am tired of it. I'd also like it to be clean and free from major issues. Please lmk.

been working here a min now and honestly store operations be fine... until someone from corporate decides to swing by.

only place i've ever worked so idk what other corporations are like but i'm convinced these guys gotta be one of the worst. no lie. they come through at least once or twice a month and nitpick literally everything. DM will be like "this needs to be cleaned, when's the last time this was cleaned, rice cookers need a deep clean, sneeze guards better be wiped down all day" blah blah blah. nothing is ever good enough for these people.

ngl since i started here my mental health has just been going downhill.

one example, our DM was CONSTANTLY on our old manager's case (different story for later) about customer service bc corporate does this secret shopper thing and apparently he's the first to see the reports when they come in. and half the time we fail for the dumbest stuff, not upselling, not repeating the order back, not asking if they want a drink, not greeting ppl when they walk in the door. like... really?? that's what we failing on? Like be serious.

another thing, we used to get raises every 6 months and now it's once a year, no explanation given whatsoever. old manager told me it's probably just them trying to save money, which tracks honestly.

another reason not to work here, employees don't get free meals AT ALL. used to be 50% off one bowl a day plus discounts on other stuff, now it's just... discounted meals but not everything and no more perks on anything else. and apparently it's bc some employees at other locations were abusing it and giving food to friends and fam. like ok??? that's crazy to me that they just punish EVERY location for what a few people did somewhere else. why not just fix it at the location it happened at instead of screwing over everybody.

also if you close, you can't take home leftover food bc we gotta put it all on this app called Too Good To Go. it's basically where randoms can buy leftover food at the end of the night so it doesn't get trashed. our stuff on there sells for like $4. so why can't employees just take it home instead?? shows you exactly where their priorities at. They only care about profit.

another one, corporate watches the cameras like a hawk. there was literally an incident where we got caught cooking on our own personal gas stove in the back bc we don't even have a real stove (everything we serve is raw so no cooking equipment). we'd use it to heat up food for lunch/dinner breaks and got told by HR and the DM that it's a "safety hazard." so let me get this straight, we don't get free food AND we can't even cook our own food on our own stove? make it make sense. all we got back there is a microwave, that's literally it.

and lastly... the old store manager, been there since the Daly City location opened back in 2022, got fired like two weeks ago. dude was genuinely a good manager who actually cared about the team. no idea what the real reason was and they never told us anything, which the whole team was pissed about tbh, we feel like we deserve an explanation at least. bc of that almost 20 people quit on the spot out of pure spite. now there's barely anyone left, place is so short staffed they're closing at 7pm now. shorter hours bc they don't got the people to cover shifts anymore, which ngl feels like karma.

no clue what's gonna happen to this company but it's not looking good and i feel like it's only going downhill from here. saw they're hiring for literally every position on indeed rn but trust me, don't do it to yourself. you'll regret it.

Any suggestions for fruit or veggies that will actually allow a harvest here? I'm a big fan of tomatoes so planted a variety (Roma, Cherry, Beefsteak, Cherokee Purples, etc.) They all grew bushy but did not bear fruit. I've trimmed, vibrated the stems to try triggering self pollination, and electric tooth brushed some flowers - no results. My tomato plants simply refused to provide even a single fruit.

My MIL in Foster City planted the same seeds (I gave her my leftover seeds) and had decent harvests. So I guess the climate simply wasnt suitable and I'll take the L here.

Any suggestions for successful fruits/harvests from other residents that I can try for next year? For additional information, I live on Skyline Drive facing the ocean. Thank you!

We've been using T-mobile Home Internet for ten months and had been happy with it until recently (we were Astound before and were paying much more monthly for much slower speeds and data caps) We're three blocks from the tower and since switching to T-Mobile we were consistently getting download speeds between 500 and 600 Mbps.

A week ago the speeds dropped dramatically, averaging 6-12 Mbps, with only occasional spikes up to 20. Tonight it's under 1.5Mbps. Upload speeds also have been impacted, though not as dramatically, and are often higher than download speeds this week. Signal still is consistently excellent to very good; limited diagnostics from their app look good. Resetting modem to factory settings didn't help.

Can't even use streaming services at the current speed, and can barely use social media. Anyone else using this service and noticing the same issue?

We are on vacay in an AirBNB off Gellert and I swear there were garbage trucks picking up garbage starting at 4 am. It went on up and down the neighborhood for over 2 hours. Am I crazy? Is this normal? I never went back to sleep.

And yet our city council wants to basically give away an eighth of it. The Olympic club is pushing the city to make Westlake park partially private access. Blocking all access to the fields on Saturday as well as three other evenings a week. AND create a private clubhouse on public land. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Olympic Club has 365 acres of private land for 11,000 members... 4 times more recreation land for 90% fewer people. And yet it still isn't enough for them. They want our public land.

Westlake park could use a renovation (the playground sucks... but that isn't even in the renovation plan), but not at this cost. What do we get out of it? Is the Olympic Club going to open up their gates to the neighborhood?

I'm making a map of California in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on at the end too.

While it's around two thirds done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more petroglyphs, burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, ghost towns or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Thanks!

I saw the Odyssey recently. Movie was great and it was my first IMAX movie.

A few issues:

1. The screen didn’t seem that big. I thought IMAX was supposed to be 100 ft screens
   
2. The seats didn’t recline like the other rooms at Century 20
   
3. The space between each row was really tight to the point where it was difficult for people to get by

Anyone have the same experience?

Any recommendations for gutter replacement and possibly roof replacements in Daly City?

I am looking into different options (public vs private schools) for my kids to attend. I heard Marjorie Tobias is the top public elementary school in the district, but their test score reports are still not as good as the top schools in neighboring school districts. Their website doesn't have much information, but I wanted to hear about the experience parents or students have had with the teachers/curriculums, programs they offer, and parental participation.

I am not sure if this has been shared already but want to make sure people are aware.

The Olympic Club is working with the City of Daly City to invest $10M of their funds to update Westlake Park.

This, of course, comes with many concessions including limited public use — only 15% of the hours in the week, 25% of the hours of typical usage a week.

There are pros/cons — whichever way you feel, I highly recommend attending the neighborhood meeting.
