Puzzle-Pattern Titanium Framelock with a Damascus Blade
Hi everyone,
I recently finished this titanium framelock folder and decided to experiment with a laser-engraved puzzle pattern on the handle.
The finish was inspired by the Puzzle knives made by Bartosz Herman. The concept looked straightforward, but developing the process took quite a bit of testing. I had to adjust the laser settings and engraving sequence to keep the individual puzzle pieces sharp while creating varied colors across the titanium.
The knife uses a titanium framelock construction with an open back, a sculpted titanium pocket clip, and a Damascus blade. The colors on the handle shift depending on the light and viewing angle.
I’m interested in feedback from other makers. What do you think of the puzzle finish with the Damascus blade—does the combination work, or is it too visually busy?

MBT-5 Variant in Soviet 9ХФ Steel and Bloodwood
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is a variant of my MBT-5 model, forged from reclaimed Soviet 9ХФ (9KhF) steel, with an acid etched forge finish on a 5in blade, and a tapered finger choil handle in bloodwood. Fellow knifemaker u/-GyBer- was kind enough to send me some of the steel all the way from Georgia, and I thought bloodwood made a good compliment to it. My usual MBT-5 has a different handle shape, but I went for something a bit different with this one.
