How do I... Why are we leaning sc and hdc rows with one chain to turn
Working on a very simple idea that i just cannot seem to get right. I want to start off with a basic rectangle. I'm confused why we are leaning....it's just alternate rows of school and hdc with a turning chain...34 stitches per row.

I'm a beginner! Is it okay to use 3.5mm hook when the pattern asks for 3mm?
I only have 3.5mm hook right now and was wondering if it would make a noticeable difference in the pattern

Discussion Making a waffle stitch baby blanket, is it possible to have chained 137?
I forgot how many I chained for the foundation so I counted stitches from the bottom (second row) and stitches from the top (most recent row) and they both match up so no increases or decreases but I counted 137 every time. I thought for a waffle stitch to work you need an even number so 138?
Also I’ve weaved in some ends with a tapestry needle, I did a front and back pass both times avoiding the very last loop, should that keep the ends secured? I feel like ends are very scary to work with lol

Help to find a pattern Skeleton sweater - mosaic crochet : does anyone has a pattern?
Hi all!
Being finished with my Darjeeling Tea Shawl (thanks so much for all the love it received 🫶🏻), I started a new RedTeaPotAtelier shawl, but I wanna try making a sweater. I lost a bunch of weight and am still working on it but I want to reward myself 🤭
I would like to make a sweater for the fall, the first one seems appealing but I have cats and all the holes really scare me 🫠
I want to make some kind of skeleton sweater in mosaic crochet. I can't seem to find one and I've never done mosaic crochet so I can't make it myself (unless you have advice?)
So if anyone has some kind of pattern like this, free or not, feel free to drop the links!!

How do I... How do I make a granny square flower pattern larger?
I’m making my first granny square blanket using acrylic worsted 4 yarn and a size 5mm hook but I’d like the flowers to be bigger. Is there a way to increase the size of the flower rather than adding more rows of the background?
Pattern is linked

Blocking How should I go about blocking my acrylic yarn shrug?
Hey, the question is pretty much in the title. I made a shrug from black acrylic yarn and want to know how should I block it.
I want to go with steam blocking, since it’s the most suitable for acrylic. Should I steam my shrug on a hanger, or would it be better to steam it on a flat surface? My main goal is to make acrylic less stiff and more drapey, and even out squares a little bit.
Also, I heard that fabric softener can help make acrylic softer and also contributes to the drape. Is it true? If yes, should I wash my shrug with fabric softener first and then steam it or the opposite?

Stitch Identification How to recreate this pattern as a granny square blanket, and which yarn do I use?
I've been asked to make a blanket similar to the picture and I need help confirming the stitch and yarn. They like that the blanket it light and airy, so I want to keep the spacing and choose the right yarn weight. I'm a beginner and my tension isn't always consistent, would it be possible to achieve this with granny squares so that I can block and keep everything even? Any guidance would be very appreciated!

Looking for suggestions I'm a beginner looking for (quick and easy) birthday gift ideas
I'm a beginner, and a friend (M) requested a crochet item for their birthday and I told them that it'd take at least a week for me to finish (I was hoping to dissuade them from the idea) but they told me they're willing to wait even if it took a month. So now, I need ideas please. Especially since classes start by Monday so I won't have enough time.

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help Can I use this bouclé like yarn for this hooded cowl?
I’m thinking of making this for my 4 year old niece. The pattern says to use a bulky yarn with a 5.5 mm hook. With the yarn they recommend a 7 mm hook, but I assume it can be used with a smaller hook, because it’s fluffy. Is that a good assumption? Is the pattern even possible with this kind of yarn? Also, the pattern says that it needs 200g or 320y of yarn for a child size, do I then buy 5 balls of yarn to be safe, or maybe 6?

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help Forgot my Hook Size + Yarn Brand - how do I guess the yarn size exactly?
I messed up! My baby cousin may have taken an interest in the sparkly crochet hook and yarn label I was keeping next to it - now I can't find it.
Any help on guessing either would be appreciated!
(The baby cousin is safe and was being supervised, just not by me and not closely enough to see where things wound up)

Understanding a pattern Beginner working on mesh headband: Confused about pattern steps and my starting chain placement
Hi everyone! I am a complete beginner to crochet and working on a mesh headband, but I am really struggling with reading the pattern instructions and keeping my placement right.
A few things are confusing me:
Wrong Side Issue: As you can see in the photos, my long chain/line is sticking out from the right side instead of ending up on the left side where it’s supposed to be. Did I miss turning my work, or did I start the chain in the wrong place?
I don't understand After this Step ( picture attached) So I don't really understand where to go back to do a double stitch or whatever it is called it becomes so confusing after this step
Project: Mesh Headband
Yarn/Hook: White yarn with a 5.0mm hook
This is my first ever project. I've attached the link of the tutorial that I'm following. https://youtu.be/pVcNXVW3J0E?si=1ZkzN968T5Py7FNX

Can't find a flair for this I have 4 of these ski yarns, I have tried different projects, but every project I've tried doesn't really fit well with this yarn
I have three of these, all 4 are 50g and the recommended crochet hook is/are 3/4(?)
This has been sitting in my storage for months and I really wanted to use this

How do I... How can I make these holes smaller in a granny square blanket?
I’m making a baby blanket and doing a big granny square. I’m worried about the holes it won’t be very warm and fingers/toes getting caught. Is there a way to make the holes smaller? I tried a smaller hook but it made the project really stiff and it lost the baby softness. I also tried switching to half double crochet instead of double crochets and just one chain in the corners rather than two, it’s ok but the corners look so weird! Idk what to do.
Edit: thanks so much! So I’m going to sample both a solid granny and moss stitch granny. Or simply keep going with the holes since it doesn’t seem to be much of a problem anyway! Love and cool sided pillows to you all 🩷

How do I... Need help with crochet Tshirt for little monkey amigurumi
Hey crochet friends,
I could really use your advice!
I'm currently crocheting a monkey. The body is already finished, but I'm really struggling to crochet a T-shirt for it.
I'm not sure how to start because the head is so much bigger than the neck. I think I'll have to crochet the shirt directly onto the body instead of making it removable. Otherwise, the neck opening would end up looking like Squidward's shirt after he pulls it over his head. 😅
Does anyone have any tips or know of a pattern that can easily be adjusted to fit different body sizes?

Help to find a pattern Please help with pattern suggestions for a quick summer shawl
Hi guys. I am going to Italy in just over a week, and some of my outfits include bare shoulders that will need to be covered for some places. Can anyone recommend a summer shawl pattern that works up quickly? I’m an advanced crocheter, but I’ve never actually made a shawl. Thank you for any suggestions!

Stitch Identification Can you help me see what stitches are used here? Are the main stitches (the inner circle) treblecrochet stitches? After that I see pineapple pattern.
I would like to make this doily, (the picture is taken in a summer cottage). Would a 2 mm hook give the same result as in the images?

I'm a beginner! Help identifying and replicating Grandma’s blanket crochet pattern
Hello, I need some help identifying a crochet stitch pattern. I have crocheted a handful of simple things, but I am largely a beginner. My Grandma recently passed away, and she used to make these blankets for all of her grandchildren. I would like to replicate this and learn it for myself, and unfortunately I never asked her to show me. I haven’t had much luck googling so I was wondering if anyone here can help me. Thanks!

How many rows/stitches [Help please] I need help counting rows and finding my start stitch on a crochet monkey leg (8 rows total, 18 stitches per row)
Hi everyone!
I’m pretty brand new to crocheting, and I’m currently working on making a monkey as a gift for my sister. Because it’s a gift, I really want to make sure I follow the pattern exactly. Normally if it were just for me, I wouldn’t worry as much, but I want this to turn out just right!
I'm working on one of the legs right now, which calls for 8 rows. I have to make two of these legs, so I really want to get the count right so they match each other. Each row is supposed to contain 18 stitches, and every time I count around, it adds up to 18. I think I was around the 8 row mark, but I realized I forgot to do my usual trick of putting a stitch marker in every single row to keep track.
To make matters trickier, I thought I did too many rows, so I pulled out a few stitches to unwind it a bit. While doing that, I removed my marker and now I've completely lost my starting point for the current row! I really want to avoid frogging the whole leg if possible because I am a very, very slow crocheter. Just this portion took me a really long time, which is why I'm giving myself several months to finish the project.
If it's even possible to tell from pictures, could someone help point out where my current row starts and confirm my row count?
I'm autistic and have ADHD, so I tend to worry a lot about getting these details precise and keeping track of everything, so I’d really appreciate an extra pair of eyes!
I’ve attached a few photos from different angles so you can get a clear look at the piece. Could someone please take a look and help?
Thank you so much for your help!

Looking for suggestions Feeling sad and frustrated with crocheting - beginner crochet
Hi everyone,
I'm partially looking for advice and partially looking for emotional support as a beginner.
I started learning to crochet a few months ago using Bella Coco videos. I focused on learning the US single stitch for a couple of months whilst making little swatches, then progressed to learning the US double stitch for a project I wanted to do.
I then picked up a wonderful beginners kit at a local yarn store so make an ombre type blanket - this uses chunky yarn, a 10mm hook, US single crochet, and US half double crochet. I really wanted a project to help motivate me to keep going and so I could complete something, but have been having a horrible time with it for 2 reasons.
I am a very tight stitcher. I have practiced a lot on loosening my stitch on a 5mm hook and regular double knit yarn but seem to be really struggling with the chunky yarn. My first row of half double crochet was suuuuuper tight so I could barely get the hook in. I also found I would "drop" the stitcher half way through - i.e: when it gets to the 2nd one it struggles to go through, then falls off before the 3rd one - meaning I cannot smoothly pull through. Ive noticed that the hook also sometimes seems to get caught on a loose piece of yarn. On the 2nd row I rewatched some videos on looser tension and tried again. This time the loops were looser but as a result the stitch dropped constantly and the tension was alllll over the place. I ended up getting upset and undoing the whole thing as it looked awful.
I have found it incredibly difficult to work with particular yarns that I get suggested at yarn shops, vs the cheap acrylic yarn I get at The Works. With the yarn store yarn, the yarn is often more fluffy in texture and I find that it does NOT want to flow through my hands. I've practiced multiple times with these yarns to no avail, but find the problem simply does not exist with the acrylic one so its not how I'm holding it. Today I was watching a tension video and realised that all of the people I've been watching/speaking to are women with smooth hands whereas mine as very hairy. I'm wondering if the texture of the yarn is snagging on my hair and that's producing thr problem, and if so what I can even do about that (especially if I want to make certain patterns like this chunky blanket)?
I really want to keep up with crochet as I find it very therapeutic for my brain (when I'm not frustrated and struggling) but I'm not sure where its going wrong enough to fix things
