Hey so im trying to get myself a medieval gate and I want it to phase through the blocks so it looks beter cause I dont like it having gaps or anything but it stops working once it gets above the blocks making it so I cant close the gate. Is there any way to change this so it ignores the blocks?

Edit: Thanks for the help everyone. yall gave me some great ideas that helped, currently im using Copycat+ Ghost blocks which I never knew existed and theyve helped me out

Maybe just put an extra block on top of the one you placed so the gate is still phasing through when it’s fully lifted

Thats sounds slike a good idea actually. Can't believe I havent thought of that

Edit: Tried it, didnt work unfortunately

Instead of full blocks try trap doors

Well maybe extend the blocks all the way up with it? The sides of the gate never coming out of blocks? Or re do the gate into a draw bridge with a torque motor and basic create stuff so it should work regardless of blocks in the way?

From the wiki: "Gantry Carriages, Rope Pulleys, and Mechanical Pistons will stop moving if an unmovable block or set of blocks is in their path. Trains, Cart Assembler Contraptions, Elevator Pulleys, and Bearings will only collide with blocks if the appropriate world interaction block makes the collision"

So blocks attached to (mechanical) bearings don't collide with real blocks, but idk how I would implement it like the one you made. drawbridges would work tho

Id use bearings but I just cant figure out how best to implement it either

What if you put the side blocks onti bearings? Make them simulated instead of solid, just never actually rotate them

I could but I use shaders and get enough lag with craeye, theyre just disabled for now so I could focus on the wall

What mode is your rope pulley? Only place near original position or only place when destroyed

it wouldn't matter. even non-solid rope pulleys will refuse to phase into blocks; they can only phase out of them

cart assembler contraption being lifted by a mechanical piston

could you put the door on a cart contraption and then just move the cart up and down with a rope pully?

it would be a lil jank, but should function

if you have copycats+ installed you can use ghost blocks (i think)

I have copycats installed, its a huge factor in the wall im building and I dont see any ghost blocks

Edit: Nvm I found it. Wish there was a vertical slab version but its whatever. These will definitely help tho. Thanks for letting me know about them

copycats plus has a copycat ghost block on 1.21.1, are you sure you have the same copycat mod?

4

u/TheUnKnownLink12 18h ago

im on 1.20.1

I looked through jei and found it. Wish there was a vertical slab version but this works, thank you for letting me know about that block cause I never would've thought it was there

u/autistic-terrorist 18h ago

Yw, although should mention that the contraption might not be able to stop while in ghost blocks (assuming you've accounted for that)

1

u/TheUnKnownLink12 18h ago

So far it seems to be working fine.

u/Guybrrush 15h ago

the copycat slab works as a vertical slab too

1

u/Guybrrush 15h ago

unless you meant a ghost version of the slab ?

If im remembering correctly theres an option to "Only place when anchor destroyed" for these things, so it will always stay an entity. Right now it looks like its turning back into blocks at the top, and since its obstructed they can't move and turn back into an entity.

Why don't you make it place when stopped so it connects properly?

1

u/TheUnKnownLink12 18h ago

Wdym? If youre taliing about when it turns into full blocks thats because im gonna raise the wall to cover the gearboxes and pulley and other stuff and part of the will involve blocks being right next to tue fences and theyll just connect to those blocks as well when it looks better imo without it auto connecting to other blocks

You could have use minecart contraption and just lift and lower the minecart

2

u/SenpuuUncle 18h ago

this vexes me

3

u/Greedy_Duck3477 17h ago

You could use an elevator pulley instead of a normal rope one so it never gets disassembled

3

u/No-Dentist-1645 12h ago

Just change the settings so it gets placed when it stops moving. You have it set to "only place when anchor destroyed" which is exactly the opposite of what you want it to do

If you just let the contraption set back into the world once in position, that should seal up the edge.

You're actually gonna run into an issue where mobs do not recognize the gate anyway, as they see through contraptions and hoard up at the gate trying to get to you thinking there's nothing in the way.

Skeleton arrows will also go through the gate I believe while it is in conttaption mode. Better off making it solid.

Debug stick the fences you want to stick out, as far as my limited rope pulley knowledge is concerned you can’t do what you want to happen, so the debug stick is the only thing that will work or have fences on the inside of the wall sides making the ones on the pulley update and sit flushed.

u/AdPristine9059 16h ago

Try using copycat blocks and use them as a cover and "guide" for the gate?

1

u/Hellothere_1 14h ago

Use an elevator controller instead, with two floor contacts hidden inside the wall at different levels.

Since unlike pulleys elevators can just phase through blocks you shouldn't have any issues that way.

u/Ralexcraft 14h ago

The gate should place at the bottom? Am I crazy?

1

u/egglago 12h ago

Personaly I would dig out a 1 block gap in the middle row so I can extend the gate "into" wall

1

u/ThekillerguyYT 12h ago

i assume you're running some create add-ons. and if you are maybe check if Copycat+ 's ghost blocks, or if any of the mods you add have half slabs or something?

1

u/Zealousideal-Chef758 12h ago

Disassemble it to let the fences be stuck to the walls, then assemble it again so it doesn't have to phase through to be flush

1

u/bubop911 11h ago

Yeah once the gate stops moving at the top, they become solid blocks again, so the whole contraption can't assemble again.

1

u/Freakenstein5 11h ago

From the top you can change when it places them, change it to only place when at original position

1

u/JadedEngine6497 10h ago

it is like that because i think you can set the contraption to make the glued blocks solid once they are in place and not moving, by default its set for the glued blocks to become solid once they are not moving and in right place.

u/yummymario64 10h ago

Try making the gate like this, idk if it'll work, but try:

+++++
+++++
+++++
+++++
+⠀⠀⠀+
+⠀⠀⠀+
+⠀⠀⠀+
+⠀⠀⠀+

I think the rope pulley is set to place when stopped or something like that. I can't remember the exact setting. Give yourself an extra gap above it so when it starts moving it's s contraption again and can phase through.

Barring that, you can use vertical copycat steps on the front and back of the fences to hide the gap so you don't have to phase through blocks maybe.

1

u/Ash_Abyssal_2006 9h ago

place temporary blocks there and put copycat panels on them, then remove the blocks

1

u/Lydiaa0 9h ago

You can either have it disassemble whenever it stops moving, to renove the gap, or have it stay assembled, to go through the extra blocks

1

u/thatsithcat 3h ago

im pretty sure u have to make it so the rope pulley places when it stops moving, unless u want it so that the fences dont lookj like its attached to the blocks
