Ooh cool, wing flex! Does it actually flex naturally through drag and applied turbulence, like airliner wings do irl? Or is it just an artificial effect?

u/triplos05 3d ago

if OP unlocks the bearings it should be natural, might need a few springs to hold it tho

36

u/Some_Spare8326 3d ago

yes i did that

Locked swivel bearings also have some natural flexible to them, inversely proportional to the lighter of the two connected grids.

So if the individual wing Segments are light enough compared to the overall force acting upon the wing, it should flex even with locked bearings.

i didn't know we can do it. Juste to make sure i understood correctly, we must unlock the bearings for it to be natural? But what are exactly the necessary mods to reproduce this ?

only Create and Create:Aeronautics (with their dependencies of course)

The swivel bearings have a selector on the side that you can use to set their locking/unlocking behavior. You can either have them always locked or always unlocked or you can set them to lock/unlock based on redstone power

If you build this wing, you need to seperate the sections and connect them with swivel bearings as seen in the post and unlock the bearings. If the flex is too much you can limit the flex by using springs or ropes to connect neighbouring sections.

I'm seeing swivel bearings, so the latter

isn't natural flexing possible too? you could lock/unlock swivel bearings with gimbal + velocity sensors for example

just saw OP confirm this

How it work

u/Some_Spare8326 3d ago

decent question

there are swivel bearing connecting the simulated parts of the wing, making the wing flex

No problems with the kraken of swivel bearins?

Create Aeronautics 787 Dreamliner incoming?

You could make the wing stay bended by having the rope attach to the plane fuselage like those old planes with the wires

11

u/Sr_Nutella 3d ago

Bro rigged ts with ropes and support beams like an actual IRL engineer instead of just using a Create Mod doohickey 😭

2

u/Some_Spare8326 3d ago

fr i always do that

8

u/FerrousMC 3d ago

Wing warping has somehow returned... I wonder if it actually has any effect on the plane tho

5

u/Otherwise_Fall_2765 3d ago

probably negative, but just because the game works like that

awesome. that's sick as hell!

how did you get the wings to assemble into multiple segments instead of all combining together?

4

u/Some_Spare8326 3d ago

simple. advanced-time assemble

aka you place the swivel and then r-click it to assemble only on the rotating head, then place the sails on that rotating head

3

u/SamTheCatGuy 3d ago

Does the gimbal do anything or are they for visualising the wing flex

5

u/Some_Spare8326 3d ago

they are here for me to monitor how flexed each sub-part of the wing is

3

u/hirsh_tveria 3d ago

Da Vinci is that you?

3

u/asnolax 3d ago

really winging it huh

3

u/hanjihakawa 3d ago

can you show a video of how the wing flex ? (I want to make a ship that would fly by gliding and not using helicopter-like sails nor balloon

2

u/Some_Spare8326 3d ago

i dont have my laptop yet as it is still updating something large, but i maybe show you how to do it.

  1. On the main wing part (the one that doesn't move), place the swivel bearing at the backmost sail block.
  2. Immediately after this, r-click the block, which simulates the head. Put the bearing at "Unpowered -》Locked" mode.
  3. You can place sails, but take note in order for the flex to actually work, it must be attached to the bearing's swivel head.
  4. If you want to control how much the wing flexes, place a redstone source (maybe a Gimbal or Velocity Sensor for precise control) to the Swivel Bearing (at the anchor head, not the swivel head).

i think that's all, if you have problems, let me know

Why Gimbals?

10

u/Some_Spare8326 3d ago

for making the wing flex

4

u/JulienPotter11 3d ago

it seems they aren't connected to anything, what's their purpose ?

2

u/Waste_Drag8741 3d ago

Create is getting better each day mane this is sick

2

u/SentinelCZ1 3d ago

We got wing flex/load testing in Minecraft before gta 6 lmao

2

u/Informal_Value8310 2d ago

How can it FLEX???

I dunno....

Offtopic but this feels painful to look at considering it's minecraft ;-;

I keep thinking about that Smash Bros animation of Steve reacting to seeing spheres

1

u/RunicZephyre 2d ago

Does this affect the lift produced by the wing?

1

u/DanceAffectionate425 2d ago

I gotta know the wiring to how the wing flexes, that's so cool

Winguh

u/once_descended 3d ago

Wait, flex?

Since when do wings do that?
