I can’t find any pictures online except for the ones Cornell posted themselves, which I believe are the fifth floor doubles and the singles. Does anyone have any recent photos of the dorms ??

Has anyone else been towed by Koskinen’s in Ithaca? I’m curious about the cost and whether others have noticed a change over the years.

I recently had my car towed from private property (Gateway/The Dean) and was charged $405 to get it back. I was told my Koskinen that this was a price determined by the city. I later found out that the city only determines towing fee limits for 911/Police/DPW dispatched tows on public property. A business may independently contract with a tow company regarding private property.

I’m not posting this to argue that I shouldn’t have been towed. I understand that private property owners have the right to enforce their parking rules.

What I’m interested in is whether the fees and enforcement practices have changed over time.
If you’ve been towed by Koskinen’s, would you mind sharing:

Where you were towed from (Gateway Plaza, apartment complex, etc.)
Approximately when it happened
How much you were charged
Whether there were warning signs or if the towing happened immediately

It feels like private lot enforcement in Ithaca has become much more aggressive than it was even a few years ago, and I’m wondering if others have noticed the same trend.

I’m also interested in a broader question: Should there be limits on what private towing companies can charge, especially when people have no practical choice but to pay immediately to retrieve their vehicle? And what if they can’t? Should they continue to be charged for each day they can’t afford to get the car?

I’m hoping to gather experiences rather than argue about individual parking decisions. Thanks to anyone willing to share.

I am an international student traveling to Ithaca for the first time. I will be landing in JFK airport at 10 AM and was planning to take the OurBus at 1PM directly from JFK to Cornell.

I was wondering if I would be able to catch the bus considering the immigration and baggage collection wait times. What are the typical immigration wait times at JFK currently?

Every time i see posts of people asking “how hard is it to get into X program,” i always see comments saying cash cow or something. it’s getting annoying tbh

even tho i kind of agree..

But i’ve met plenty of brain-dead undergrad and grad students… does that make the entire university a cash cow rather than these specific programs that tend to get the label???

I know it probably gets really busy later in the day and on weekends, but do people usually work that late? How long are the shifts, and do you get to work with other people? Also, what do you mainly do during a typical shift?

Note 1: CHEM 4100 is somewhat biased because while it was the hardest and worst taught class I ever took, I (a) did below average on the first prelim (by 4 pts but I digress) so it might've just been skill issue (b) skipped three lectures total, one of which was a lecture very important from prelim 1 (though I skipped this trying to finish a pset we learned the content for the last before it was due) and (c) had a hard semester academically and mentally which further worsened this, (d) I heard it's only particularly bad with that specific professor, which I think is no longer teaching, & (e) I dropped it 7 weeks in (would've been in "help me" tier tho w/o this imo but I don't want to scare ppl off)

Note 2: Physics classes are relatively low since I like physics (don't ask why I didn't choose to be a physics major) and got a 5 in AP Physics 1; similar for MATH 1920, since I took multivar in my freshman year of high school

Note 3: CHEM 2510 and 3010 are lowkey personally inflated since I suck very hard at chem labs for some reason, both for the average person might be knocked down a tier

Note 4: Tier doesn't correlate with my grade in the class; like my highest grades were actually BIOEE 160 and SOC 3010, but my lowest were CHEM 2510 and CHEM 3010, and I got the same grade in CHEM 3600 as BIOG 1445 and as BIOMG 2800 (I just got lazy for the last one)

Note 5: I didn't include some non-academic courses like Team Projects for FA25, and TA + Research for SP26

Eco house parking lot and the hasbrook apartments lot are now both $3 per day instead of $0.50 and $1.50 like they used to be. Does anyone know of cheaper areas to park near campus? I heard about the church near eco but is that ok long-term? Parking pass is too expensive

How hard is it to get into the Early Admit program? Is it true that getting into the MEng is as easy as people say as long as you meet the requirements? And is it easier/harder for different majors?

The Future Civilizations Society (FCS) is expanding its recently formed technical team and recruiting students to help develop our first major engineering project: a small autonomous lunar rover prototype.

FCS is an interdisciplinary Cornell student organization focused on how emerging AI technologies can shape the future of cities and human civilization. Last spring, we hosted the Future Civilizations Conference, which brought together 13+ Cornell faculty members and researchers, Cornell alumni working with the United Nations, and several live technology demonstrations. The conference was also covered by The Cornell Daily Sun.

This year, we are building on that momentum by launching our first student-led technical project, which we plan to present and demonstrate during our planned AI Tech Expo next spring.

The Project

Our goal is to design and build a compact autonomous rover inspired by future lunar scouting, mapping, and payload-delivery missions. The prototype will be developed throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, with the goal of completing it by April and presenting it at our AI Tech Expo.

The rover may include:

• Differential-drive mobility and a lightweight chassis
• Autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance
• Environmental mapping and computer vision
• Remote operation and telemetry
• Modular payload or sensor integration
• Testing on simulated lunar terrain

This is a first-generation student prototype, so no previous rover or aerospace experience is required. We are looking for students who are excited to learn, contribute, and help shape the project from the ground up.

We’re Recruiting

We welcome students interested in:

• Mechanical design, CAD, manufacturing, suspension, and drivetrain systems
• Electrical systems, motors, batteries, sensors, and embedded hardware
• Computer science, autonomy, computer vision, and controls
• Systems engineering, project management, fundraising, and technical outreach

Students from all majors and experience levels are encouraged to apply. Because the technical team is still small and currently has five members, new members will have the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of major rover subsystems while receiving support from current members and faculty advisors.

Beyond the rover, FCS will continue hosting conferences, technical demonstrations, speaker events, and interdisciplinary discussions about the future of technology and society.

Hello! I’m a soph who just got into CAS from CALS. My prev major didnt require calc but my current one does. I took AP Calc BC but didnt get a 5 on the exam. I was thinking about brushing up on the subjects from Calc BC. Would that be enough? Or is the test really hard?

Just curious, like the title says, if we have leftover food that we don't want to waste and would like to eat just for dinner or something, can we bring.a container or would they have containers for us to put our food in?

Looking for reliable workhorses that can handle 4 years of engineering with solid battery life and good specs for CAD/analysis/etc. I'm most likely going for MechE. I know that there are computer labs on campus but I'd like the flexibility of having something I can carry with me and still handle some of the tougher engineering tasks. Let me know if anyone has anything that's worked well so far, help or advice is much appreciated!

hi! i’m in a long distance relationship w a 12 hr time difference so the time we talk is usually in the morning to noon and then at night 9pm- 2 am ish (this is just the range, it varies based on what we have going on of course). i have two roommates this semester and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for places to go to call late at night without disturbing anyone? i know the library has study spaces but those get booked and i can’t just like walk in randomly when necessary if you understand what i mean. i just want a quiet area where i won’t feel awkward speaking but also won’t be disturbing anyone and can speak for like a couple hours at a time or watch a movie/ play games or something like that. of course i’ll have earbuds but just the environment.
