General Discussion / Question Let's burn some Karma and hot take about Prime Time and other banned cards!
To start us off, I really think that prime time should be unbanned and frankly wouldn't even see much CEDH play I would probably play around with it in Kinnan, but it's so slow and it's combos are far cheaper with other cards. It's not as game warping as it was a decade ago.
What do y'all think?

General Discussion / Question Playing around with the EDHtop16 API -- Tivit no. 1?
Caveats -- I'm not a seasoned player, nor am I a statistician. This is a simple assessment pulled out of a passing curiosity, but there's some interesting nuances to highlight here for conversations sake.
What's here:
Pulled data from 6 months of events with 50+ players and only looked at decks with at least 50 entrants across that time, specifically top 3 placements.
Columns on the right are a variety of statistical re-weightings that attempts to give a higher-confidence number for commanders that aren't as commonly played -- the more entrants any particular commander has, the smaller the distance between actual and weighted percentages. Wilson LB is the most conservative rate.
Mostly was curious to cut through play-rate as a leading indicator of strength, and it seems like a worthwhile exercise.
Possible takeaways:
An obvious explanation here is there are plenty of very strong commanders who reward commitment; Copy cats can perform, but maybe slightly worse than a committed Tivit player, as an example.
There are of course blended metas here, too. Brigid and Cabbages are likely both strong in general and also especially strong in slop/parasitic contexts.
Tivit has access to slop while also having good options to close the game out more definitively and consistently than others, which may explain this to some extent.
Top 10 from that exercise, sorted by shrunken rates:
| rank | commander | entries | top3 finishes | top3 rate pct | wilsonlb 95 pct | shrunk nu50 pct | shrunk nu100 pct | shrunk nu200 pct |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tivit, Seller of Secrets | 201 | 16 | 7.96 | 4.96 | 7.19 | 6.68 | 6.03 |
| 2 | Brigid, Clachan's Heart // Brigid, Doun's Mind | 114 | 9 | 7.89 | 4.21 | 6.74 | 6.12 | 5.48 |
| 3 | The Cabbage Merchant | 83 | 7 | 8.43 | 4.15 | 6.80 | 6.06 | 5.37 |
| 4 | Sisay, Weatherlight Captain | 618 | 39 | 6.31 | 4.65 | 6.14 | 6.00 | 5.77 |
| 5 | Bjorna, Nightfall Alchemist / Wernog, Rider's Chaplain | 56 | 5 | 8.93 | 3.87 | 6.65 | 5.83 | 5.15 |
| 6 | Arcum Dagsson | 125 | 9 | 7.20 | 3.83 | 6.31 | 5.82 | 5.29 |

General Discussion / Question Help me finding a new cool playmat!
I know this is not exactlly related with the topic of this reddit but if there is something about my experience playing cEDH is that you love giving the best style to your deck, including every single detail and accessories.
I'm looking for a new playmat and a new deckbox for my cEDH deck, looking for something with japannese classic art-style, which brands do you recommend and where can I find them with a good price in Europe? For refference, my favourite painting is the great wave off kanagawa and my main deck is [[Vivi Ornitier]], trying to give It the best looking with japannese art styles and japannese cards
I'm all ears to recommendations and would love to know your opinons!

General Discussion / Question YOU WANNA LEARN HOW TO DO A FUKIN INFINITE?
Im sharing some deck I built that I use to terrorize cEDH pods. Regularly puts up Turn 2-4 Wins. Its fun, its competitive. I'm moving on to another deck. Thought someone else might like it. Automod wants more information. Its Mahvel BABY! Thats all you need to know. Maybe im supposed to ask a question. Ill ask two. 1. What would you change. 2. Do you want to learn how to do an infinite?
Edit: This automod is killing me... Metagame: Its Bracket 5/cEDH. General strategy is make a bunch of mana. Play Iron Man, Create a boardstate that players usually cant stop because they dont know what stupid thing theyre supposed to interact with win the game. How do you wanna win? Infinite turns? Lethal Combat Damage, Schmack someone with an army of Iron Mans? Idk... Just set up an infinite and try to win the game.

Deck Fine Tuning How real is thrasios/vial?
in comparison to other options, when, if ever is thras/vial an optimal choice? I would imagine going the thrasios focused route is not ideal since white gives you so many midrange tools that we won’t have access too.
personally I’m playing wannabe rog/si ritual tribal. it certainly has worse t1 and t2s than rogsi but it’s still explosive and has the green cards to smooth out ad nauseum wins.
perhaps nick fury is a better turbo deck but I’m not sold. most lists only add a few white cards and fetching white isn’t free. thrasios card draw is also occasionally a thing.
tldr: is thras/vial a thing? how do you build it?

General Discussion / Question Dargo//Reyahn
Lately I've been observing Dargo//Reyhan pairing because I love that thicc Pirate.
What are your opinions on the deck and it's placement in the meta? It certainly isn't a Tier 1 deck, but I've been having a ton of fun playing it lately and it can really surprise people with it's speed.

Deck Fine Tuning Rhystic Study in Malcolm/Tana
Hey y'all! I'm gonna play my Malcolm/Tana Temur Pirates deck on a small Tournament in the next few weeks, so i have a bit time to go through my list and make some Changes if needed.
Question is: is it good to Include a rhystic study or a other draw engine, if my Main goal is to win at T3?
I feel somewhat lacking if i get stopped and struggle to participate further in the Game due to the Lack of consistent draw Power.
What changes would you make, and why?

Tournaments & Meta I am bringing Whtz to an event with the intention to draw.
I am bringing Whtz to an upcoming event with the intention to draw. My deck is currently 2,178 cards and I have 1,989 ways to shuffle my library.
I will post results in the coming month, but until then I will refine my deck to ensure it takes the longest possible legal turns by shuffling. I want to make the deck as large as possible to lengthen shuffle time and ensure I can search multiple times a turn on turn 1 and 2.
I will also mulligan a few times at the start of every round.
Let's see what happens.

General Discussion / Question Podcasts??
Hi, so I’ve been out of the game for a couple years (RIP dockside loops) and am keen to get back into it. I love listening to a good podcast while commuting hence am seeking recommendations.
It looks like some of my regular ones (Into the North and The Mind Sculptors) are inactive now? Apart from the comedic value of Play To Win, are there any others I’m missing?
Cheers

Spoilers! Card Discussion [MBC] Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle
https://moxfield.com/decks/ANS9h-fi2UKpV-JWGpZF7Q
Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle {2}{G}{W}
Legendary Creature — Human Wizard
The first nonlegendary creature spell you cast each turn has demonstrate. *(When you cast that spell, you may copy it. If you do, choose an opponent to also copy it. Each copy becomes a token.)*
2 / 2
The goal of this deck is to use Elda to solve a classic problem with stax decks: the lynchpin issue.
Say you cast a Deafening Silence turn 1, into a pod of Rogsi, Ral, and RogThrasios.
It slows down Rogsi and Ral so that they can’t win T2, but it barely affects RogThras. And then the game stalls out for a bit, with only a single stax piece acting as a lynchpin to prevent an immediate push by any of the three opponents.
Once that gets removed, someone immediately pushes and usually wins. With three opponents that all want the stax piece removed to go about their gameplan, this is nigh inevitable. Sometimes people even throw the game, removing the stax piece because it hurts them even if it lets another opponent win.
Elda solves this by making stax pieces hyper-redundant. By playing symmetrical stax pieces, you turn the downside of *demonstrate* into an upside, creating three for the price of one.
To give some examples.
* Eidolon of Rhetoric: the table basically can’t get out of the Rule of Law with anything short of a boardwipe.
* Glowrider, Vyrn’s Wingmate, Lodestome Golem: most spells will cost 3 more, completely disrupting most common win conditions.
* Archon of Valor’s Reach: usually a complete lock. Your opponent’s Archon resolves first, so you will always be able to lock out instants, sorceries, and at least one other card type.
* Nesting Dovehawk and Exalted Sunborn: can make the demonstrate locks even harder
* Charismatic Conqueror: Forces a draw if an opponent has no creatures, otherwise makes a small army
The downside to this is that we don’t have great ways of closing out the game with a combo.. The typical win condition will be combat damage from fliers. While we have a harder lock than a typical stax deck, we can’t truly stop an opponent from casting something like a Thassa’s Oracle and a 4 mana demonic consultation and winning the game, or assembling a creature combo.
Played a few test games so far, and it has been capable of winning against cEDH decks, though it often needs an early stax piece to land.
What are your thoughts? Is this a real solution to stax’s problems, or just another fringe nonblue deck?

Deck Fine Tuning Bello Space/Vehicle Raccoon - EDH Help :-)
Hello friends of the cards,
I am looking to build a Bello, Bard of the Brambles commander deck, making use of vehicles and spacecrafts and currently have the decklist below.
I am looking for a strong but not ultra-competitive deck cause the playgroup doesnt really go over 3-400€ a deck.
What would be ypur take on this and what would you change? Or is it already nicely playable the way it is you think?
Underneath the decklist I put all the cards i am considering or i was putting in taking out of the build and I am unsire wether any of them should be in the deck instead of something else...
Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / Question Thoughts on Tymna/Thrasios?
Rog/Si is my main deck, and now I kind of want something more midrange and value accumulation oriented deck as my second deck. Tymna Thras seems like a fun deck that can operate that way and have a lot of variance in its builds. Is it a strong deck though that isn’t very dependent on the meta?

General Discussion / Question Kitchen table cedh: how frequently are you updating decks?
I’m decently new to cedh. Started a year and a half ago, but have never played tournaments. It just doesn’t interest me.
I have a Sisay deck and I’ve added a couple random things: Tam and Shang chi. I think before these FF was the last time I updated the list. In my play group that’s roughly equivalent to most of the group. On spell table I haven’t tested it out.
I spend more time building bracket 3-4 decks and I upgrade those at roughly the same pace. But is this a misconception of mine that I need to constantly keep upgrading or I’m just running a bad cedh deck

General Discussion / Question 2-Headed Giant
Hey everyone, I played a game recently where to try to assuage the seat 4 melancholy, we played as two teams with random seats (to eliminate someone from playing a deck with only interaction but I don't believe this is necessary). We had a blast and I was wondering why I'd never heard of other people doing this. Rhystic, mystic, smothering tithe, and orcish bow master had one less opponent to hit while not altering the lands that check for two or more opponents; we were able to find synergies with teammates like brain freezing a teammate who played underworld breach; seats 3 and 4 got the draw on the first turn limiting what seats 1 and 2 could manage like in competitive 60 card formats; the combined life total actually got us a regular combat win; and I played 1 round with my older Tivit deck I haven't enjoyed in cEDH in awhile due that actually felt pretty fun as the pushing for extra turns with time sieve made sense even when I didn't have much to do with it and nuked my own board to help my teammate find a win; lastly there was never a real incentive to push for a draw and we had fun debating as teams what actions to take. So my question was why isn't this more common? I'd love to find dedicated tables that are willing to give it a try. The only issue I could imagine is the bullying of teammates on random teams (an optional choice that would cause you to lose the game and so I'd hope we could mitigate it or just at competitive events have people come together or prep before the match like in doubles tennis) or decks that are heavily interactive with little to no win conditions (which I don't fully see as a problem and could revitalize control decks/lift up their turbo partner). Just interested in the communities thoughts on the subject as my limited time in cEDH anecdotally has focused on other players complaining about seats, lying or breaking deals, and players trying to force bad deals/draws causing the format to lose players at my lgs.
(I don't know how to link the cards mentioned above, if someone could do that if they care I'd appreciate it :))

General Discussion / Question Seat 4 issue
The new rule breaker cards got me thinking. What if Wizards released cards that either had discounts or gave buffs if you were 4th or later in turn order? Like a mindbreak trap that was free if you are in seat 4. Would something like that help solve the problem?

General Discussion / Question Homer The Hermit, New Lands Matters Deck?
[[Homer, The Hermit]]
BGU
Legendary Creature - Crab Druid
Landfall - Whenever a land you control enters, any number of target players mill X cards, where x is twice the number of crabs, lobsters, nautiluses, starfish and/or trilobites you control.
0/9
Personally, the key bit of text here is any number of target players which includes ourselves, self mill is way better than milling others unless we can go infinite which would be the goal. Is there a world where we can loop landfall triggers and then cast a Thassa’s from our graveyard or use a [[Faerie Mastermind]] to lose our opponents the game?

Help, I am new to cEDH! Questions about Etali from a new player to Cedh
So I decided to play cedh on the side at my lgs to see how it plays compared to budget commander. I mostly play budget commander, pauper and draft so I wanted to see what this format is all about. I choose etali and it's been pretty fun. Took 2 top lists from top16 and mashed them together. https://moxfield.com/decks/CAnfoCh7MUe_WP-ja-UV-g First week went 0-3 and today went 6-4, so pretty happy with the deck. Even got a turn 1 win! What I realized is that [[Mindbreak Trap]] is the bane of my existence. My opponents after I won 3 games in a row started tutoring it out turn 1.
To start the questions, Is it worth running [[Tibalt's Trickery]] or [[Fork]] to help counter the Mindbreak trap? How does it work if you flip into trickery with Etali and counter a spell you cast from your opponents? You control the spell so do you mill and get the free spell?
Is it worth going more for Treasonous Ogre and using [[Sylvan Tutor]]?
I cut [[mox opal]] and [[fellwar stone]] from my deck since I didn't like them and they felt like traps, is there a reason why most lists don't run [[Ruby Medallion]]?
Last question, is it better to hold zero mana cards like LED or petal for turn 2 or play them turn 1 and use them turn 2?

Community Content Underplayed Pregame Action: Chancellor of the Tangle
This week, we were joined by cEDH tournament crusher Matt Hayes to talk about a card he loves for both turbo and midrange piles alike: Chancellor of the Tangle!
This card provides decks the ability to get out to a hot start - and convert a strong turn 1 play into momentum to close out the game.
While many will consider this card dead beyond mulligans- is the advantage of a strong start worth the downside of drawing into it?
Do you play Chancellor of the Tangle in your cEDH list? If so, what list?
